I lifted my trans by myself. What is the status? Going to go with a Weber?
or hitachi? or the newton junkyard ea82 parts?

The status is and lessons learned are.
http://www.ultimates...&pictureid=3527
Never go over a month without changing your bad alternator.
http://www.ultimates...&pictureid=3529
Never underestimate how many electrical connections exist.
http://www.ultimates...&pictureid=3528
Never count out old technology, with the unusable carter carb.
http://www.ultimates...&pictureid=3531
Never believe that all the fluid has drained out.
http://www.ultimates...&pictureid=3530
Never think that if you ruined one part, a subaru guy doesnt have 50 others stashed in a box somewhere.
http://www.ultimates...&pictureid=3532
Never say a single range transmission is ok when you have a dual range on the floor right behind you.
http://www.ultimates...&pictureid=3534
Never suspect otherwise if you have ever taken your subaru offroad that a pile of mud isnt greating you underneath where said parts were.
http://www.ultimates...&pictureid=3533
Never forget how old parts got you through the tough times. Thanks for the memories.
http://www.ultimates...&pictureid=3535
Never forget that you didnt drain all the fluid out of the trans before you pulled it out of the junkyard allowing it to spill on the floor while your partner is telling you to get a bucket why you just sit there and say its ok 3 times.
http://www.ultimates...&pictureid=3537
Never underestimate the power of a dude in the engine bay shot.
http://www.ultimates...&pictureid=3536
Never think you shouldnt take another one.

Lifting the trans isnt normally a big deal but if you are leaning over the front of a lifted vehicle with the hood latch pressing into you its a little harder...

Reasons for going with ea81:
Only 106k miles
Already had it.
no timing belts
No old electrical components to deal with
no more worried about frying another ecu.
Cheaper to maintain
Easier to troubleshoot

Upgraded to dual range too. 140k.
Its in already. Just need to move the clutch/flywheel stuff over and yank off the intake manifold...

Weber is on its way...

What would you say to just wireing that fuel pump and electric fan up to a toggle switch. If its simpler i say we do it.

No, not yet. The motor is waiting for a manifold and carb swap. Then convert a few other parts over. It probally wont make mudcoast but i might try to show up since i cant go to my charity event now.

getting closer. had some other parts on hand, so as long as the engine was out...

stripped down hitachi manifold and weber adapter installed
new t-stat
new coil
new water pump
different resealed oil pump (old one had stuck backplate screw that was stripping out)
new NGK plugs
5 speed flywheel, clutch, pp installed

need to cut the exhaust to rotate the flange yet, but pretty much ready to drop the engine in... and continue on...
