  2. If I'm not mistaken that is the diagnostic test plug. Looks like the one I plug my Snapon scanner into.

  3. The # 3 one above the EGR looks like the thermal sensor on my EA82 from California. All it does is tell the ECU that the EGR actually opened.

  4. read the codes on the LED under the steering column. You have to remove the plastic panel to see it, through a hole in the ECU.

  5. 95 Legacy and up are OBDII. 95 heads are dual exhaust port and hydraulic lifters in the rocker arms and non-interference. 96 heads are single exhaust port and hydraulic lifters in the rocker arms and non-interference. 97 heads are single exhaust port and adjustable rockers and are interference. We have a 95 and 97. I put 95 heads and Y-pipe on the 97. It paid off when the cheap timing belt broke.

  6. I should’ve asked what year each of the L series are. Over here mid ‘87 is the crossover from series 1 to series 2. Some cosmetic differences occurred on the exterior, wiring wise the switches for the headlights changed and the cluster switch on the steering column was introduced in the series 2. Some of the dash buttons changed too (flat grey to a black framed with grey insert). If swapping from a series 1 to a series 2 you’ll have to take these changes with the loom, unless you do some fancy wiring mods. All that said, I don’t know if the SPFI came in the series 1. All the best with it! Cheers Bennie

  8. You can switch between obd1 and obd2 wiring if you have the matching wiring from the manifold. I find it easier to keep the manifold intact since the fuel injection is the same. I have to disagree with @GeneralDisorder on this one however. I have personally trimmed each type of harness and i found the obd1 harness a bit easier to work with because the ecu connectors are separated (rather than just one big connector) and the super multiple junction is a lot smaller. The obd1 is much easier to keep the cel. There is no reason in my opinion not to use the 90-94 electronics, especially since the imprezas came with obd1 until 96 i think. Just take the dash off and rip everything out. Busaru youtube channel has loads of pinouts. Two advantages to the obd2 is that the alternator pigtail is simpler (there is a double diode on obd1) and you can simply ground the neutral switch to disable the vehicle speed sensor.
