    +1 on the pull. Good time to reseal or replace the rear breather plate on the engine as well. T Belt, Valve cover gaskets and anything else that's due.

    It's pretty common. No short cut - pull it out and fix it! Good time for a clutch too.

    Also check for 14.2 volts at battery with engine running .... Could be alternator diode(s0 gone bad.

    seems weird but I know little about the newer cars - probably check brake fluid too I guess. You could try a battery disconnect reset......
