Depends on who is checking you out. I've been there and been charged for the transfer case and other times not. The luck of the draw I guess. I'm about to find out again soon since I'm looking for a transmission.

Next time you go for snowtires, try the Nokia Hakkiipollitta tires (www.nokian.com). I'm on the third season on mine and it looks like I have one or two more seasons left. And they are still just as effective in the snow as when they were new (I know, what snow). Great rain tires too.

Calebz said most of it. Admission is $1; $25 for an annual pass that's good at all three locations. They do not stock any parts; as a matter of fact they can't tell you what's on the car unless YOU go out and look (costs a $1); you can borrow an available wheel barrel if available (be prepared to leave your keys so they can be assured you'll bring it back); parts are "as is, where is" but you have 30 days to check it out for operation or fit and you can bring it back within that time frame WITH a receipt and the colored mark on the part for full refund or exchange; they can check what's in the yard by make and model and tell you what row it's in and the color and the year--nothing else. They are not allowed to sell you a catalytic converter.

Yea, I guess it would. But a three day rallycross added to a 3 day WCSS? I'm starting to run out of vacation days! This school is being done by Primitive Enterprises in conjunction with ORG; it would certainly be interesting to join forces with the Subaru groups.

From Paul Eklund: Attached is the tentative Rally School Flyer, brought to you by Primitive Performance Driving and Oregon Rally Group. The school is scheduled for March 18-20 (Fri-Sun) with ground school Friday late afternoon (5pm?) into the evening (10pm), driving exercises in a RallyCross setting on Saturday and a full RallyCross competition on Sunday. Along the way we will discuss TSD rally, stage rally, driving techniques and a host of other rally issues. This is directed to the beginner, but experienced rallyists will learn and gain valuable practice as well. Cost is $135 per person for early sign up (before March 1st) and it is $150 after that. Groundschool location not yet finalized, but Sat/Sun will be out at Washington County Fairgrounds in Hillsboro, OR (~15 miles west of Portland). The field is LARGE, flat and grassy (which will turn to muddy). Details to be finalized. Please spread the word to interested parties and members of your car clubs. This program will give driving skills to autocrossers, road racers, and rallyists and open up the world of rallying to all participants. We plan to have some break-out sessions directed towards navigators (course notes, timing basics, calculating, controlling your driver) and some for drivers (thinking ahead, safety, thinking ahead, planining your event, thinking ahead). Street cars are fine (nothing lowered is recommended)--they will get muddy. 2 people can share a car, but it will reduce total seat time on Saturday a little bit. I will also be contacting some of you about helping instruct at the school (depending upon expected attendance). Please email me if you have solid experience and really want to instruct driving or navigating. You will be paid for your efforts. Sponsors will be sought for the event. A small sponsorship will get logo onto front of coursebook, with a 1 page advertisement inside and a chance to give a short (>5 minute) talk during the school and/or a display of wares. Is the seat back in a proper locked position? If not, then the slider won't lock into place.

I'll second subynut's suggestion regarding ccrinc. My son put one of their engines in his '82 Brat about 6 years ago; it's still running fine and has won it's class in rallycross two years in a row. Unless you're real talented and have $$$, the EJ18 or EJ22 or EA82T route is very difficult to do.

Nothing personal, but just as well we didn't try to do this here; you wouldv'e been parked here for a few days with the results of our trying to fix what was the issue.

Less than 5 miles past Sea-Tac; definitely call and go there. You won't be disappointed.

Ooops. Sorry, I mis-remembered the year. James' Impreza is a '96 so the manual transmission as well as the 2.2L engine is understandable. He obviously got a better deal than I thought; for the price he paid I thought he got a '93.

Nokian WR (an all season tire) 185/70-13 works for me in all conditions.

Go north on I-5 until you go thru Mt. Vernon and then take SR20 westbound and that will put you on the highway heading for where the thumbnail is centered. You can ask local info if you can't find it from there. It's not too many miles off of I-5; if you miss it you'll wind up in the Pacific Ocean!

That's odd, my kid just bought a '93 Impreza and it has the 2.2L engine. I think it even says 2.2 above the rear bumper on the right. And it's a mnual 5 speed.

I didn't check which model car, but a wrecking yard Harmonic Balancer can be had for much less than that. Give me the model and I'll check and pull one if I can find one. Drop me a PM if you like. $30 plus shipping sound like a fair price for a used one?

I understand that can be a problem; but this is a MISSING pulley. Something here is lost in the translation.

Time for a new mechanic. Part price is right, but it your harmonic balancer is missing you'd have more problems than just steering. Harmonic balancer is the large pulley on the bottom front of the engine at the center.

A white EA81 wagon showed up yesterday. Someone had certainly modified it altho I didn't examine it carefully. It had those hood hold down studs (you know the type the protrude thru the hood and had a ring thru them to keep the hood down) and a set or really gnarly snow tires with lots of tread left on them. It would be worth it for a cheap set of off road tires. Sorry it had an open diff.

For $650 you can buy TWO webers!

I'm planning on going to Portland on Saturday and stopping at XSNRG's place on the way down. I will see Flowmaster87GL while I'm in Portland and we'll be returning on Sunday. Not really sure of our schedule as yet.

Almost any seats that are actually not too large would fit. What you need is to save the seat rails off your old seats (or get another set from a wrecking yard) and a friend who knows how to weld. Take out one old seat and mount the seat rails in their place. Bolt a metal plate to the new seat and place it on the seat rails. Tack weld it onto the rails and then remove the seat and rails and continue to weld until you're sure the seat won't come off the rails. Repeat this exercise with the other seat and you're good to go. It sounds simple and a little more creativity might be required but it can be done.
