Anyone aware of a company making a rear swaybar for the brat? Too much trouble for me to modify a turbo swaybar onto my brat.

The other reason for moving the LSD kernel into an open diff is that you won't have to re-shim the ring and pinion gears which is critical to the long life of your new diff.

You're probably right about the linkage; but I doubt it's a loose linkage. Most likely it's mis-adjusted. If I remember correctly, the height of the 4WD lever can be adjusted it's likely too low so when you put it to the floor, it's too close to engaging 4WD drive. Take off the rear part of the plastic housing, and look at the base of the 4WD lever which should have a screw adjustment for the height; loosen the screw, raise the lever about 1/2" inch and re-tighten it. Now the linkage will dis-engage better when pushed down into the 2WD position. Sorry if I'm a bit vague on this; I've only had to do it once on my Brat and that was quite a while ago.

Three day RallyCross School

If you like I'll call the Town Hall and tell them your garage is too large for your lot. That should delay things enough to put you into April. Just trying to help the "faint of heart" make a decision. -
Yes, but not completely. LSD was optional equipment on the EA82T models but I'm not sure when that started. In '89 I believe it became standard on the EA82T models. RX models always came with the LSD.

I'm almost tempted to be there. But the long drive down and back is daunting! -
Let me inject a personal bias here....I wouldn't trust anything that an Allstate rep tells me--get it in writing. However, that being said, get a 2nd and 3rd opinion from other insurance carriers since if you ever find you have to sell the car it wouldn't necessarily go with an Allstate insured buyer. Lastly, get as much written documentation on the repairs made as possible so that you know exactly what you're getting and have it on file on the off chance that you have to sell the car in the future. A verbal "car runs just fine and never gave me any trouble" will not convince a potential buyer in the future.

Q for portland people--> car loans
edrach replied to subaru_styles's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Besides the paperwork from the car lot I brought the autotrader ad (with VIN#) and also a carfax report. They didn't need any of that, but I had it with me just in case. -
Q for portland people--> car loans
edrach replied to subaru_styles's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Credit unions are just great. I just went through this yesterday. Took the paperwork from the car lot to the credit union in Seattle. Showed it to the guy and said I wanted a loan; how much would they authorize? 80% of book value he said. He looked up the book value of my proposed sale and it was high enough I could finance everything including sales tax and other incidental costs. I had options on how much and how long and settled on the full amount for 36 months at 4.4% with no pre-payment penalty. Twenty minutes later I was out of there with a check. Sure beats dealing with a bank! -
I've been looking actively for about 6 weeks now. Not asking too much; just a 93 to 97, with a 5 speed manual, AWD, reasonable mileage, not white in color and under $5000 in price. I've had three slip out of my grasp since the new buyer with a ****eating grin was walking out of the car lot office with the keys as I was walking in. I was about to spend more than I wanted for a private sale when I checked autotrader.com one more time Sunday night and found this 4 miles from my home!! http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=177687017&dealer_id=54177099&car_year=1997&make=SUB&distance=25&lang=en&max_price=&model=IMPREZ&end_year=1998&min_price=&certified=&address=98021&search_type=both&advanced=&start_year=1991&isp=y&cardist=3 I took the morning off from work today and was there 5 minutes before the dealer opened up at 10am. A quick test ride down to where my wife worked and then a return to the dealer to dicker and do paperwork. A ride downtown to the credit union and 20 minutes later I was on my way back with a check. Picked the car up this evening when my wife got off work. Car runs great, has 112K on the odo (agrees with the carfax I ran on it). It has a few warts but nothing a few lucky trips to PAP won't cure. Now all I've got to do is get rid of a few excess cars in my driveway. It's going to be a busy week. :) :)

I switched on my '91 legacy at around 120K. No noticable change or problems with leaking. I did it just so I could increase the oil change interval (I had been changing the oil every 2K which was about every two weeks). You can shop around for a better deal; I'm paying $4.95 a quart since I buy it by the case. I'm even thinking of becoming an Amsoil "dealer" just to get a better price on it. ---ed---

How do I access the fuel pump?
edrach replied to Syonyk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
While you are down there looking at the fuel pump wiring, change the fuel filter. I know it has nothing to do with the pump not running, but it's probably never been changed because of its out of the way location so now is a good time to do it. -
What are rules for PAP, Northend Seattle?
edrach replied to jdub's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Depends on who is checking you out. I've been there and been charged for the transfer case and other times not. The luck of the draw I guess. I'm about to find out again soon since I'm looking for a transmission. -

Next time you go for snowtires, try the Nokia Hakkiipollitta tires (www.nokian.com). I'm on the third season on mine and it looks like I have one or two more seasons left. And they are still just as effective in the snow as when they were new (I know, what snow). Great rain tires too. -

edrach replied to jdub's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Calebz said most of it. Admission is $1; $25 for an annual pass that's good at all three locations. They do not stock any parts; as a matter of fact they can't tell you what's on the car unless YOU go out and look (costs a $1); you can borrow an available wheel barrel if available (be prepared to leave your keys so they can be assured you'll bring it back); parts are "as is, where is" but you have 30 days to check it out for operation or fit and you can bring it back within that time frame WITH a receipt and the colored mark on the part for full refund or exchange; they can check what's in the yard by make and model and tell you what row it's in and the color and the year--nothing else. They are not allowed to sell you a catalytic converter. -
Three day RallyCross School
edrach replied to edrach's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Yea, I guess it would. But a three day rallycross added to a 3 day WCSS? I'm starting to run out of vacation days! This school is being done by Primitive Enterprises in conjunction with ORG; it would certainly be interesting to join forces with the Subaru groups. -
From Paul Eklund: Attached is the tentative Rally School Flyer, brought to you by Primitive Performance Driving and Oregon Rally Group. The school is scheduled for March 18-20 (Fri-Sun) with ground school Friday late afternoon (5pm?) into the evening (10pm), driving exercises in a RallyCross setting on Saturday and a full RallyCross competition on Sunday. Along the way we will discuss TSD rally, stage rally, driving techniques and a host of other rally issues. This is directed to the beginner, but experienced rallyists will learn and gain valuable practice as well. Cost is $135 per person for early sign up (before March 1st) and it is $150 after that. Groundschool location not yet finalized, but Sat/Sun will be out at Washington County Fairgrounds in Hillsboro, OR (~15 miles west of Portland). The field is LARGE, flat and grassy (which will turn to muddy). Details to be finalized. Please spread the word to interested parties and members of your car clubs. This program will give driving skills to autocrossers, road racers, and rallyists and open up the world of rallying to all participants. We plan to have some break-out sessions directed towards navigators (course notes, timing basics, calculating, controlling your driver) and some for drivers (thinking ahead, safety, thinking ahead, planining your event, thinking ahead). Street cars are fine (nothing lowered is recommended)--they will get muddy. 2 people can share a car, but it will reduce total seat time on Saturday a little bit. I will also be contacting some of you about helping instruct at the school (depending upon expected attendance). Please email me if you have solid experience and really want to instruct driving or navigating. You will be paid for your efforts. Sponsors will be sought for the event. A small sponsorship will get logo onto front of coursebook, with a 1 page advertisement inside and a chance to give a short (>5 minute) talk during the school and/or a display of wares. Contact me at Pauleklund@aol.com or Scott Kovalik at dkov@pacifier.com for more info on this opportunity. We currently expect about 20-35 students and about 100+ entrants at the RallyCross. Sorry, I can't attach the flyer since it's 83K (over the 50K limit). Email me and I'll forward the flyer.

Slider won't lock on passenger seat

Is the seat back in a proper locked position? If not, then the slider won't lock into place. -
Need new engine. What should I get?
edrach replied to NathanialBaker's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'll second subynut's suggestion regarding ccrinc. My son put one of their engines in his '82 Brat about 6 years ago; it's still running fine and has won it's class in rallycross two years in a row. Unless you're real talented and have $$$, the EJ18 or EJ22 or EA82T route is very difficult to do. -

Less than 5 miles past Sea-Tac; definitely call and go there. You won't be disappointed.
