  1. My outback has a really loose shifter, i mean really loose, sometimes I have no idea what gear i will end up in! It is kind of getting on my nerves now and I dont know whether to just replace the bushing or look for a short throw kit to put on it. Are there any kits out there for an outback wagon? Has anyone put one in and are they a pain to install?
  2. i just went out and fired it up..the check engine light does not even come on before starting for the bulb test, so either a: it is burned out, or b: someone disconnected it. We will start out scanning for any codes then drop the cat. stay tuned.
  3. Bought a 98OB last week, 2.2 5speed w/ 170k on it. Runs like a bear, but had a slight exhaust leak when i bought it, i got a great deal so i didnt care. Today, i noticed some slight power loss on the highway, and when i got off the exit, the whole car was shaking and hesitating. It never stalled out and has no CELs. My thoughts are that the cat is shot and causing it to perform like this. I have not gotten a chance to get underneath it, and i am just going to take it to my guy to get it done. Anyone ever had this happen and can confirm that it is indeed my cat that is shot? TIA!
  4. too bad you arent closer to PA..im looking to sell my GT Limited. what was the price on the one you were looking at by the way?

  6. i used to sell bridgestones in the northeast pa area and blizzaks were sworn by everyone around here (that used snows). the ws-50s put a lot of green in my pocket. we had people ordering them in june! personally i never used snows since i ran BFG AT T/A KOs on my old Grand Cherokee and never had 1 problem w/ em. Never put snows on any of my soobs and honestly, never felt that i needed them, but that is all a matter of personal choice and security.

  8. depends on where in PA u live too..in lackawanna county we only get the visual and gas cap test.
  9. **or** just goto the junkyard and cut out a seat belt buckle and insert it in there..
  10. i have not disabled the chimes in my 05 legacy, but i find them annoying nonetheless. i figure the car will annoy me into buckling up and thus save my life some day. (i lost a dear friend in a bad car accident, so i think of that every time i get annoyed at it). here is a thread from legacygt.com that you might find useful. dont know if the same logic would apply to the Baja, but worth a shot. good luck.. http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42147&highlight=seat+belt
  11. damn that thing is ugly....and i LOVE it.. dont you remember dad's red 82 GL? That was 1800 D/R w/ single rectangular headlights. As was his old 82GL "faux woodie". The 80 1600 STD had the circular ones.
  12. echoing 75's reply on harry's...don't let the witch that checks you out bust your bizzals. i was going to fight, but i wanted my wagon wheels too much to leave them there...she busted me over 3 tires that were on them, which i won't use. i should have hacksawed them off before i went to pay...they will have most of what you are looking for. a nice outing.
  13. either way, still could grab a 5 speed push button shifter and transplant it. that would probably be the easiest way.
  14. man, they look good, i am looking for a set for mine..is there any rust on them? i would try and get some heavy duty wheel cleaner. i use wheel wash from www.topoftheline.com. Def a good idea to get them sandblasted and powdercoated. that will look even sweeter..good luck.
  15. just gotta find some time to get my a** down to harry's then..
  16. on my 89 gl wagon, it is auto and has the s/r push button 4WD. If i push it in, the lights on the dash come on, and all indications are that 4WD is engaged, but the button will not "click" and stay engaged. has anyone dealt w/ this? could it be a grimy, cruddy switch causing it not to go in far enough to "lock" on? or a faulty switch? i will probably pull it apart this weekend and see what is up, but it would help to go in with some foresight. thanks!
  17. i never really noticed that it wasnt cold enough, until this recent heatwave in the NE. normally i will drive w/ the A/C on all the time because i am a "sweat-er". i like it so cold in the car my glasses fog up when i get out. HAHA. could it possibly be that the performance of the AC is just compromised and cant keep up with the stifiling temps we are experiencing? what color is your legacy? if it is black or Royal blue, those are darker and consequently could be making the cabin substantially hotter.
  18. yeah, there is no really bad cancer. mostly just surface stuff i plan on addressing soon. and yes, that is an 86 gl hatch in the garage. my neighbors are going to require me to get a dealers license soon...
  19. nice! had i tried that in my wagon i would probably be having a beer at the pearly gates right now..
  20. here are some pix...enjoy! having it checked out tomorrow by a friend who owns a shop. i have not had the time to do anything with it. i am working too much overtime to feed the new addiction!
  21. it seems the bug has bitten again. i picked up an 89 GL wagon over the weekend for a couple hundred. 189k but sadly is an auto. since buying my 05 Legacy GT and losing our jeep liberty and grand cherokee to buy the outback sedan, i needed a hauler to have around the house. and have a little toy to screw around with as well. will post some pix tomorrow, too dead tired to do it right now. and its dark out. it runs really well, seems to be well taken care of. not much rust. the only thing is once it gets warmed up, it seems that there is a binding/rubbing noise coming from the LR of the car. It does not do it until you get it running for 8-10 minutes. I am gonna pull the wheels off this week and see what it is. it sounds like metal on metal. anyone have any ideas. they would be greatly appreciated before pulling the wheels....thanks!
