  1. I had mine back a hilly atv trail one day,you just need to go really slow...and not care too much about getting minor paint scrapes. I started before I realized what the trail was,I haven't ever tried to repeat it or anything, but maybe I will this summer, and take the camera with me this time.
  2. If mine's any indication you're just going to have little things, like some sensors going out....maybe the clutch if it's never been changed. Great car otherwise,I'll have mine back in a few days finally. Yay!
  3. Maaaaan,I'm mad,we got snow and my car won't be done for another week. Has brand new Toyo spectrums on it that I want to try. I know they're not the Proxes, but still.
  4. I've locked myself out of my OBW several times, the first night i had it even...luckily they're obscenely easy to break in to...which scares me.
  5. "3. On the 2000-2001 do all the doors unlock when the driver side door lock is unlocked from the outside with the key? I'm used to Toyotas and this is a handy feature. It bugs me that I have to unlock the door on the '98, open it, fumble around in the dark to find the door lock button to unlock and let other passengers in." Weird,in my 96 it works like that so it seems odd that they don't in your 98.
  6. It's a 96,the bumper cover's are different from regular leg's,but it looks to me like the different grills I'm seeing are *functionally* identical with just cosmetic differences in the pattern of the grill. I just wish I knew for sure beforehand. I'd use my old one for a compare, but it pretty much disintegrated when the deer hit it...the biggest peice left was the Subaru emblem..and a third of that was missing.
  7. I'm trying to pick a new grill up cheaply from ebay, but I'm not sure exactly if all are identical/interchangable with my 96 outback and from what years/makes.
  8. I know people like to say "use the search",but for one thing sometimes it's just better for people to be freindly and tell you instead of telling you to seacrh through who knows how many useless threads to find the peices of relevant information. Which I already did search and didn't see anything since I'm not sure prescisely how to word it perfectly enough to find what I'm looking for. So can anyone, you know, point me in the right direction or just help me out? tia
  9. Legacy's seem to have the exact same problems,at least my outback does anyhow.
  10. Heh,well this happened on the altoona/hollidaysburgh side of royer mountain, not in williamsburgh exactly. I have seen more than a few on rt 22 this year though,it's so warm they're really moving around a lot more than usual. I think it's fixable too,in person it doesn't look as bad as it dooes in the pics. Monday I'll know for sure, but the mechanic is already tracking down the parts. And the car's in altoona,it was towed immediately, you can't leave stuff sit on some of these roads without someone breaking in or smashing the windows out. And conscidering how easy they are to break in to when I've accidentally locked myself out of the car...no way!
  11. Meh,I live in the middle of farmland,I see deer all the time, usually they don't jump on to my hood though. :-\ Someone mentioned safety, well I've ran over potholes that jolted the car more, for a few seconds I thought I missed the deer because there was just no real impact force. The car is fixable, and wil be fixed,it's not going to be cheap but the thing just runs so great and is mechanically sound...doesn't seem to be any structural damage. Here's where the deer jumped down from, that's about 8-9 feet high even if it doesn't look like it in the picture. http://www.freespaces.com/aramchek/Deer/p1123356.jpg Here's the deer. http://freespaces.com/aramchek/Deer/p1113331.jpg Antler hole and head print. http://freespaces.com/aramchek/Deer/p1113334.jpg And here's the car(nage). http://freespaces.com/aramchek/Deer/p1113335.jpg http://freespaces.com/aramchek/Deer/p1113336.jpg http://freespaces.com/aramchek/Deer/p1113338.jpg http://freespaces.com/aramchek/Deer/p1113339.jpg http://freespaces.com/aramchek/Deer/p1113340.jpg http://freespaces.com/aramchek/Deer/p1113343.jpg http://freespaces.com/aramchek/Deer/p1113345.jpg http://freespaces.com/aramchek/Deer/p1113346.jpg
  12. I was driving down off a mountain tonight when a deer jumped off of an 8 ft embankment by the side of the road, directly on to the very front of my hood...right above the bumper. I was only going maybe 35mph but my radiator is now sitting straight back pushed up against the motor, the fenders and hood ard mushroomed to hell and I've got a antler hole in the driver side fender. That thing flew prolly 12 feet high in the air, flipping three or four times before landing by the base of a tree, looking at the car, shaking his head and then apparantly running off. *sigh* Well it was fun while it lasted.
  13. 96 OBW 2.2 5spd 206k miles, going strong and driven hard daily. Second motor, but the first only failed because the guy who put my clutch in had my coolant reservoir out and neglected to properly secure it back in. I lost it and the car ran great for another 15 miles before it just suddenly died,I wish I had realised the sound wasn't just a stone or twig hitting my car. Original engine was at 200k miles and was still very strong, this engine is at about 142k miles and is slightly better than the first.
  14. I'll have to pick one up then. Well, since it wasn't much work and I had a spare sensor on my old/dead engine I decided to just switch them out anyhow and go from there. I had taken a look last night and could see that the plastic part of the sensor was cracked pretty badly,so going ahead seemed logical enough. CEL is gone and for the most part so is the sputtering, there's a very occasional sputter here or there but the sensor I put on is slightly corroded too so.... I'll buy a new one here after winter if it seems to stay fixed, because of the corrosion I'd just rather have a new one on there. The car definately drives much better again, and I think the 2.2 + 4.11 gears is a great combo, back to having fun on the twisty, winding hills.
  15. Er,I thought I did type out what it is. Geuss not. 96 2.2 5 speed manual Outback, hot cold it doesn't matter, also the cel is inconsistant it will go away sometimes, flash sometimes and stay on sometimes. I'll get up the road to get the code checked one of these days, but I do kind of live in a tiny town in the middle of the woods so it doesn't always happen as soon as I'd like. I see those cheap code readers on ebay and always think I should grab one,I just don't want to get one that's crap.
  16. Lately I've been having some issues with missing or stuttering at certain rpm ranges, usually around 2500-3000 and then around 3800-4000 rpm range. What happens is thatat those ranges rpm's will still rise, although somewhat slower than normally, but the car has absolutely no power at the time...then it gets past the rpm ranges stated and all the power comes rushing back all at once. I do have a code up but haven't really had any time to get it checked out yet,I do have a spare set of spark plug wires and changing from one set to another and resetting the ecu alters the car's behavior at least breifly:One set of plug wires works better than the other and takes this sluggishness away almost completely for a while,to the point where I thought it was fixed but it eventually creeps back in. I also very occasionally get the dying catylitic converter smell. When the hesitation pops up it feels like the spark is getting cut back or shut off almost. I know without reading the codes it's hard to be sure what it is but I'm looking for some ideas as to what I may be in for. in the meantime as I have a second engine sitting around and maybe I already have the parts I need...if there are quick simple things I can just switch out to try I'd probably go ahead and just do it.
  17. Too ricey for my tastes, looking like that I don't care what it's capable of. blech. BTW I'll race you in my outback,in the snow or on gravel or in the rain or over uneven surfaces or dirt or or or.
  18. It's not getting them in that I'm needing help ith,it's mainly the wiring...since the instructions are somewhat vauge. So,anyone know?
