ATF question
In my recently purchawsed 2000 Outback wagon, now with 88K, the transmission fluid was last changed about 50K ago. Not sure whether they used Dextron II or III, both of which are acceptable according to my owner's manual. I want to do a drain and refill; does it matter what I use? TIA.

2002 Legacy - Question about audio
J A Blazer replied to Nk06's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXLet me share my recent experience. I just bought a 2000 Outback wagon with 85k. Previous owner, at original time of purchase in early 2000, had upgraded the entire sound system with OEM Subaru speakers, tweeters, subwoofer, and 6-disc CD player. I was not happy with the sound; quite a lot of distortion at modest volume, confined to driver's side, front and rear. I took door panels off and discovered that the speaker paper cones had separated from the metal frames. Clearly a bad batch of glue. I replaced the speakers with the same set from Subaru, and all is now well; sounds good. Lesson - check the speakers for failure before doing anything else. Now, if only I could get the CD changer to work.

Windshield Washer question
2000 Outback Wagon, 86K. Front windshield washers not working and my sense is that the motor has failed; rear is OK. I see that the motors are separately available, but the price for the entire reservoir with both motors is not a whole lot more. Are there problems (i.e., leakage, etc.) associated with trying to replace just the motor?

Trailer Hitch Wiring
2000 Outback wagon. Where is the connector for the trailer hitch wiring? I have carefully looked on both driver's and passenger's side in the rear corner and there are no unused connectors as shown on this link: http://www.etrailer.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=E&Product_Code=18370&Category_Code=VWH Please help! Thanks.

WTB Trailer Hitch
I am in the market for a new or used trailer hitch for my recently acquired 2000 Outback wagon. There appear to be three different brands: Valley, Curt, and Hidden Hitch. Is there any real difference between these in terms of ease of installation, quality, and durability?

? re: 6-disc changer
J A Blazer replied to J A Blazer's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYes, it spits it out on its own. And no different results regardless of which numbered slot I try.

? re: 6-disc changer
I recently acquired a 2000 Outback wagon with 6-disc in-dash CD changer. I have read the manual and can get the changer to accept a disc, but it then spits it back out. These are pre-recorded CDs, not MP3 or home-brew, and yes the label is up. Any ideas or tricks? TIA.

cigarette lighter socket - OK for other uses?
I just bought a 2000 Outback wagon. Owner's manual says that the cigarette lighter socket in the dash is not for use with any electric accessories such as cell phones and the like; should only use the accessory outlet in the back. And, because I have heated seats, I don't have and can't install the other accessory outlet near the parking brake handle. Is this warning for real? What do other people do? Keeping a cell phone in the back of a wagon while it charges is not realistic.

- 1999 Outback- Woofer compatible?
J A Blazer replied to sunking247's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX[ The issue is that the 6.5 inch speakers on the driver's side of the car have blown, both in the front door and in the back door. I just bought a 2000 Outback with 84K; previous owner had the premium speakers, tweeters, and subwoofer installed. Like you, both speakers on the driver's side distort when the bass is turned up. Let me know if you confirm that the speakers need replacement or whether there is some other explanation which might also explain my situation- Gen 1 or Gen 2?
Am considering a 2000 Outback wagon. Is this a Gen 1 or Gen 2 motor? 93K miles; what should I look for?- Dealer recommendation
In Northern Virginia, what is the general consensus regarding Farrish, Manassas, Stohlmann, Beyer, or Paul Brothers? Sales and service. Thanks.- New member needs advice
Hi; thinking of buying a 2001-2004 LLBean or VDC wagon with 3.0 engine. Any particular year to avoid? Any significant changes during that period? TIA.- We won't be getting a subaru, but I will drop in from time to time.
J A Blazer replied to crazymjb's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAs of pricing right now we were looking at about 32 for the subaru Seems high; most of the Subaru dealers around Wash D.C. are selling '06 Beans and VDCs for under 30K; where are you?- Question re: 01-04 LLB OBW
New member; thinking of buying a 2001-2004 3.0 litre LLBean Outback wagon. Any differences over those years that I should consider? TIA. - 1999 Outback- Woofer compatible?
