  1. This might sound stupid but how would you check to see if it was leaking around the bushings. My carb came off an old datsun and todd from up north (mt.Vernon) put 1/2 a rebuild kit in it so that could be the problem. The last couple of days I have started it with the choke on, i had no problems. so it seemes to be some what temperamental. thanks for the idea there. Jeff
  2. well that makes me feel a little better that i'm not the only one who has had this happen. Thanks for your guys info. I'm going to be doing a little tweeking with it on new years day. Jeff
  3. Every morning that I go out to start the brat, I pump it like two times just to kick the choke on. Here's the problem, evry time I do this and i get heat in the motor it won't idle. Does anyone elses do this, it's making me mad. go to stop at the stop sign, car stalls. After about Ten miles or so it idles just fine. Let me know if you know what this is or if you've had it happen. Jeff
  4. I have an '82 brat with 244k almost 245 todd with the old green brat (pretty much totaled one)has 300k I think and the speedo hasn't worked in like 4 or 5 years that i know of.
  5. I just wanted to let everyone know that if you like to be able to drive in the snow. By drive I mean not get whipped aroud all aver the place. Go to Baker Lake rd. up by Concrete WA. I went up with my brat, and all my buddies got f-250 and 350s I went every single place they went, got stuck once. At times I was pushing snow with the hood. It was the best day of my life. You guys might not care but, I figured I'd let someone know. Everyone at work hates hearing about all the cool things that I did over the weeked with the Subaru. So I tell you all. Thank You. Jeff
  6. about 6 months ago i had the same thing happen to my '79 brat i stood on the brakes real hard, they locked up good. The nice part was i had a broken front axle so we were running in "rear" / 4WD, and i was about one and a half miles away from my house. after that the tire was no good and the bead of the wheel was nicly ground down. It was pretty cool. Just thought i would add my story for fun. Jeff
  7. My '82 brat will not go over 60 mph without overheating. I've flushed it, replaced it, I even have both the fans on it and it just keeps getting hot. If I do 0-59 mph everything is cool, and if I sit at stop light for 5 min it's all cool. Do 61 mph, shows over, gotta stop along the road. Oh I even put a new thermostat in, it helped a little do to the fact someone just took it out all together. The only thing left is the ?water pump? isn't it. If anyone has any idea let me know it's making me mad. Jeff
  8. wow that about sums that up thanks for all the info. that sounds like it will be a lot of work, but it will all come together as you go. If I have any more Q's i'll talk wichya again. Jeff
  9. sorry needed to finish my thought. its a five speed and the motor going in is out of an old brat (1800cc) it is the best canidate so far. nothing too special just stock overhead cam carb. to stock push rod 1800
  10. The car is an 88 GL wagon with a carb. the original motor got smoked.
  11. This week my buddy and I are going to be putting a new motor in his over head cam wagon we are going to try and put a push rod motor in it . I was wondering if anyone has done this, and if so are there very many things that you have to change over to make it work or does it even work. Jeff Northern Alliance Mt. Vernon WA
  12. my buddy just put disk brakes on the rear of his 85 brat. i have an 82 brat. I was wondering if everything would bolt on the same if i were to convert mine to disk, or are there some differences between our brats? And the way things would hook up?
  13. I had the same thing going on. I took it to les schawb they said it was my front and left rear wheelberings and front cv axles. i thought that they were right, but they were wrong. as i drove down the road it felt like the front end was about to fall right off. A shaking from side to side kinda. so it ended up being the right rear wheel bering and a front cv on the right side. do check your rear ones my buddy and i both have had the rears go out but mine has 243200 miles on it. I just thought i'd put my 2 cents in. good luck. Jeff Northern Alliance Offroad Mt. Vernon WA
  14. Today is the first day you can use that snow plow too hurry and get it on there and take some pics so we can all see. Jeff Northern Alliance Mt. Vernon WA
  15. I BOUGHT ONE WITH MY BRAT AND LET ME TELL YOU JUST GET ONE YOU WILL LOVE IT. I'M PUSHIN 25-26MILES TO THE GALLON AND CAN REALLY HAUL:moon: . IF YOU WANT TO GET A WEBBER CHEAP GO AROUND TO THE JUNK YARDS AND THEN RE BUILD THEM. ITS WORTH IT I'M SOLD ON THEM. JEFF NORTHERN ALLIANCE OFFROAD MT. VERNON WA
  16. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THE GEARINGS ARE? A FEW OF US HAVE HEARD THAT THERE ARE THREE DIFFERENT ONES. I ASK THIS BECAUSE I'VE GOT AN 82 BRAT AND AT 70 MPH I'M TURNING 4000 RPM THATS WITH 185/80/13. WHILE MY BUDDY HAS AN 85 HATCH AND 175/70/13S AND HE DONT TURN THAT MANY RPMS. IF SOME ONE CANT TELL ME THAT BE COOL. JEFF NORTHERN ALLINCE MT.VERNON WA
  17. HEY MAN DON'T FEEL BAD I'M GOING THROUGH THE SAME THING. I TORQUED MY CASTEL NUT DOWN TO 145 LBS AND IT DIDN'T MAKE A DIFFERENCE, TWO DAYS LATER IT WAS BACK TO THE LOUD POUNDING, MAKE ME MADE:madder: NIOSE. WHAT YOU HAD MENTIONED IS JUST WHAT I'M GOING THROUGH TOO. THERE IS ONE WAY TO MAKE IT STOP, REPLACE IT ALL AND DO IT YOUR SELF LES SCHWAB QUOTED ME AT $751.00 FOR FRONT WHEEL BARINGS AND CONSTANT VELOCITY AXLES (CV AXLES) I TOLD THEM TO KISS MY :moon: . SO GOOD LUCK ON IT. JEFF NORTHERN ALLIANCE OFFROAD MT. VERNON WA
  18. THIS WEEKEND I DROVE TO MY SISTERS HOUSE IN KENNIWICK. I LIVE IN MT VERNON SO ITS JUST SHY OF 300 MILES THERE, ANY WAYS I GET A WILD HAIR TO TAKE MY 82 BRAT FOR THE LONG HAUL FOR SOME BETTER GAS MILAGE. EVERY THING WAS GOING GOOD TILL I GOT TO WAPITO. THEN MY WHEELBARINGS GO OUT I THOUGHT ALL HELL HAD BROKE LOOSE, DO REMEMBER I'M ON MY WAY THERE. WELL ANYWAYS WE MAKE IT AND TAKE IT TO LES SCHAWB, BAD IDEA, $751.29 THAT WAS FOR BERING AND CV AXLES. I TOLD THEM TO LEAVE IT ALONE I'LL PICK IT UP IN A BIT. SO MY BUDDY BRAD AND I TOOK AND JUS T TIGHTENED UP THE CASTEL NUT ONE NOCH. THAT WORKED GOOD TILL WE GO TO EASTON. THEN THAT SAME SOUND CAME BACK, OH YEAH AND IT WAS SNOWING LIKE IT HAD NEVER SNOWED BEFORE. FROM THERE WE DROVE IT STRAIGHT TO TODDS HOUSE IN MT.VERNON AND TORQUED THE NUT TO 145LBS. SOUND WAS GONE I STILL DROVE IT TO WORK THIS MORNING, ON THE SAME TANK OF GAS FROM YAKIMA. THE FORD SURE WOULDN'T HAVE DONE THAT.
