  1. I'll see what I can do. I can try to get some pix of the tranny I just blew. BTW, HATCHY is a witness.
  2. Thanks. I guess this will be the first transmission I have put 'under the knife'.
  3. How do you get the input shaft carrier off the tranny? My chilton won't tell me.I need to fix an oil leak before i put the tranny in the rig.
  4. I have an EA71 JDM engine in my '80 wagon. It came with a bellhousing and flywheel to couple to an EA81 tranny. It runs pretty strong for a subaru motor. Only problem I have ever had with it or the motor it replaced was a stuck thermostat which overheated on the freeway and blew a head gasket. Milled the head and resealed the motor, glasspack, K and N, 2wd disty, Accel coil, and it'll squack em in third in 4wd.
  5. There are so many places I take my rig offroad around here. There's a small pit just off I-5 at 128th, another one off the Bothell-Everett hwy, Langus Riverfront Park has some kind of sand bowl(don't let the cops catch ya at any of these though he he). The Tulalip Rez has some nice trails that go for miles. Up hwy 2 there is Sultan Basin road, Reiter pit, bunch of other forest service roads. Mountain Loop hwy has MT Pilchunk, and plenty more forest service roads. I even tore hell through a public park once at night.
  6. I just blew my third tranny. It makes a bad clunking in 4wd. I managed to drive it back home in 2wd, no clunking, but the gear shift gradually became harder to shift, so i drove mostly in sec or third. By the time i got home, i barely got it in first, parked it, then the next day, barely got it in neutral so i could roll the car. All the trannies are EA71 single range. The first two just broke the front diff, this one was something else. I'll gut it sometime to see what i broke. Gonna put an EA81 dual range in it now, coupled to my special JDM EA71 with EA81 style bellhousing and flywheel.
  7. Got a third eye on my '80 wagon. Took the cover off though, and rewired it and put in a toggle switch. I've seen a few subies with em around in western WA.
  8. EA rocks off road. EJ burns the pavement. Best of both worlds... PARTS SWAP!!!
  9. I'm in Everett. Lost both rear mudflaps at Reiter pit on christmas, and dented both front doors on my '80 wagon. My friend just bought an '87 DL hatch 4wd. Have yet to do some serious 4by'n in it.
  10. The wire between the fuse box and the headlight switch gets pretty warm too.The headlight wires in the engine bay are cool.
  11. I'll also scotchbrite the fuse connection. i'm using buss fuses.
  12. The headlights are stock replacement lamo Sylvana Extravision(not the halogen).I don't think they'll draw too much amps. The problem fuse is a 25 amp(powers half the fuse block, the other 25 amp fuse powers the other half of the fuse block) the headlight fuse seems fine, no melting. I will check out the ground and the switch. I recently purchased a parts car, an '83 GL wagon with an EA81 dual range four speed(the one posted in marketplace on craigslist(parts car for $250 in Mountlake Terrace, severe front damage)), I will be borrowing parts off that one(totally complete car, well taken care of WOW!!!!). I'll check the headlight switch and the ground. I will get back with the results(unless y'all see a big backyard car fire on the news he he). Thanks.
  13. Hello, this is my first post to this awesome subaru site. I own an '80 GL wagon with origionally a single range four speed (just blew my third tranny). I have this problem with my headlights, it makes the 25 amp circut hot enough to melt the plastic surrounding the fuse. I can't find a short anywhere. The parking lights don't effect the fuse, just when the headlights are on. The headlights still work (the fuse element sags, but hasn't blown yet). The things that I assume could be the problem besides a short i can't seem to find could be a bad switch or headlight relay. Anybody have any problem like this?
