  1. I did look in the for sale section here. I don't normally because I don't frequent this site much anymore. But that post is nearly a year old and I doubt they have that vehicle anymore since they were getting rid of it back in june of 07. Thanks for the links though. I'll check out those other ones too.
  2. 90 Subaru Legacy Wagon AWD I'm looking for some tail lights and some corner lights cheap. Is there a website that sells these? Not having any luck at the junkyard, the corners disappear quick and the tail lights are always cracked or leaking. Also need new carpet because there's a horrible smell in mine that I can't get out even after steam cleaning it and using odor removing sprays. Smells really bad when the car is hot inside. No idea what it's from.
  3. Altezzas???? C'mon! I can't see the car that well in those pictures but that's a pretty poor start. It does look like a mazda too. Makes me sad.
  4. Well, I got all the rotors and pads on today. That was kind of a PITA to do. Mainly because of my garage. I woke up at around 4:30 and was out there by 5:30. It was already dark and 40 degrees. Not that 40 is too terribly cold but not exactly comfortable either. Good thing I have those mechanics gloves... My step dad has so much crap in the garage that you can only fit half of your car in it and you don't have much room to work on the sides. This is a 2 car garage too. That's how bad it is. This meant that I had to pull the front in, put on new brakes, take the car out and turn it around and back in for the rear brakes. All the rotors were rusted onto the hubs so I had to do some late night beating(lol)with the small sledge hammer. Quite of a bit of beating too, those suckers were on there good. Got the brakes on and they look pretty nice. But then I realized I had forgotten brake cleaner. Oh well, I guess. Gotta go without. Then once I had the new brakes on I put my mityvac together and loosened up the first bleeder screw on the passenger side rear caliper. 1/4 turn...1/2 turn...full turn...3 turns! Nothing came out. I removed the bleeder screw completely and found that the hole was filled with dirt. After using a small drill bit by hand, I thought I got all the dirt out. So I hooked the hose up to the screw by itself to see if it would pull any air through it. Nope. There's rust in it I think. This was the only one that didn't have a rubber cap on it. That's where I stopped. I'm going to have to go tomorrow and buy 4 new bleeder screws and hopefully some rubber caps to prevent this from happening again. Do they sell those at parts stores? I found a lot of contradicting stuff on the internet and in my haynes manual. I thought I had a chilton one too but I lost it. The haynes manual says start at the driverside front and go to the rear passenger side. Then I think you go from the passenger side front to the rear driver side. On StopTech it says to go from the rear passenger side to the rear driver side, then to the front passenger side and last is the front driver side. Other sites had both ways too. I decided to go with stoptech's way because that was the most popular on the other sites as well. Which one is correct anyways and how do you know for sure? Anybody have a subaru manual for a 90 legacy wagon AWD auto? Does it say in the manual how to do it?
  5. I think it was just saying that after 3-4 hundred miles your brakes would be bedded in. Strange.
  6. Hmm, on tirerack(where I bought the brake pads and rotors)it gave a procedure for each brake pad brand they sold. On mine it just said to drive it for 3-4hundred miles and that would be all you'd need for bedding. On others it said a series of 35mph medium braking(without coming to a complete stop)and then harder braking from 50mph or so would do it. Then you turn the car off and allow the brakes to cool.
  7. Purchased the starter kit. I think I need that about as bad as I need brakes or more. One of these days it's just going to refuse to start. And that'll be one of the days that I'm up at the ski resort with my girlfriend. That would suck. It's an automatic so you can't compression start it.
  8. Is it easy to replace the starter contacts? I almost forgot, I have a can of seafoam waiting to be sucked into my engine for a smoke show! YAY! lol The guy at autozone told me lucas makes better stuff. I think he thought I was going to use it in my gas tank. Which I will probably do with some of it but probably 2/3 is going into the engine.
  9. My legacy has not given me any problems since the tranny replacement and timing belt replacement. Only problem I have now is the starter doesn't work sometimes. Gotta keep clicking the key until it goes. I should replace it...lol I ordered the rotors and pads off tirerack.com a couple hours ago. 2 Brembo replacement rotor (ea) In Stock $36.00 $72.00 2 Brembo replacement rotor (ea) In Stock $40.00 $80.00 1 Akebono pro-act ceramic pads In Stock $52.00 $52.00 1 Akebono street performance pad In Stock $71.00 $71.00 Shipping: $43.54 Tax: $.00 Excise Tax: $.00 State Waste Tire Fund Fee: $.00 Order Total Including Shipping: $318.54 I was going to get the Hawk pads and some other brand for the rears because they had the best stopping rating. But it turned out that the other brand was going to ship from another state and cost me more shipping and I didn't want to wait longer for it to get here or pay the extra shipping so I chose the other brand. Oh well, I don't care. These ones are rated much quieter and supposedly have less brake dust due to different material. As long as I have brakes on my car. I just replaced the fuel filter, spark plugs, air filter and I changed the oil with Amsoil Full synthetic. Topped off my tranny fluid, wiper fluid and changed my coolant. I'm just about ready to go snowboarding now.
  10. I bought the car for $400 from my mom. I had it for probably 2 weeks and the tranny died on me going up a big hill. Just revved really high and quit putting power to the wheels. Stared rolling backwards. No idea what happened to it so I just replaced it with a 94 tranny from the junkyard. Along with the rear diff because it was a different gear ratio. $175 plus core for a tranny at the junkyard. Not bad. I put it in(man was that a ***************!)with a little help from a friend. I like this car a lot. It's not in perfect condition and came with quite a few problems but I've really grown to love it. It's comfortable. Puts me to sleep on my way to work when I used to use it as my daily driver.
  11. Not trying to jack your thread, but I have the same problem with my manual tranny. When the clutch pedal is out, the tranny makes noise but when you put the clutch pedal in, the noise stops. This leads me to think it's got to be a bearing in the tranny. Is this correct? Is this fixable or not? I need to sell the car but everyone is too scared that they'll have to replace the tranny soon.
  12. Isn't that twin turbo engine only compatible with RHD cars? I've seen them on ebay and it says on those auctions you can't put the engine into your LHD car because something gets in the way of one of the turbos. Probably why he's going to use it in a LHD car. For a while I was looking every day on craigslist for a early 90s Turbo 5speed legacy sedan to replace my non turbo legacy wagon. I kind of gave up because the only ones I found on there were wrecked cars. Oh, and one that had a frankenstein engine made of of WRX and legacy engines with a blown head gasket. I wouldn't buy one that was put together by someone else. I don't trust anyone to put together a car that I'm going to drive. Unless it was done by a reputable professional shop. I think most people who want a turbo car probably feel this way too.
  13. thanks guys. Maybe after my next paycheck I'll pick up some new rotors and pads and the bleeder kit. Or the mighty vac, gotta research. Any more tips you have I'd appreciate. Don't wanna mess up with my brakes of all things.
  14. I guess the vented just means that it's got those holes all around the edge between the two faces?
  15. I've had these brakes off several times since I had to replace all the wheel bearings myself. Actually just replaced the whole hub assemblies from the junkyard. Don't have access to a press so that was much easier and only cost about 20 bucks per hub assembly at the junkyard. The brakes are super easy to take apart! I like that a lot. The bleeding part is where I would need help. I've never done this before. The brake pedal is a bit spongy so I think they need bleeding anyways. Some people say you have to push one time all the way down on the pedal and some people say pump it a few times. Some say not to pump it because that will just create air bubbles in the lines and cause the spongy effect on your pedal... So I've never done it before in fear of doing it wrong and making it worse. The car currently has 293,000 miles on it I think. Quite a bit. It's not running the original engine and I replaced the transmission with a 94 tranny with 140,000 miles on it about 20,000 miles ago. So the brake rotors are probably pretty worn. I'm assuming. I could get them lathed I suppose but if they're stock, they're probably pretty bad and I might as well just replace them all. I'm trying to get this car ready for the mountains.
  16. I'm not sure if this was corrected or not but the EJ22 is a NON INTERFERENCE engine. If the timing belt snapped, replace it and you should be fine. This happened to me in my Legacy while I was passing someone the day after I bought the car. I think the belt had something like 120,000 miles on it. Quite a bit. Anyways it snapped and the car died and I had to let everyone pass me that I just passed (3 cars I think, one had a horstrailer behind it) so I could get to the side of the road. I had no idea what had happened. But it wouldn't start. I took it home and pulled the cover off and sure enough the belt was all squished into one corner of the cover. I bought a new one and put it in and the car has run flawless for a year and a half afterwards and still running strong! I noticed that he said 2.5l so it's not an EJ22 anyways. The EJ25 is an interference engine(I dont' know why they would even make interference engines)so if it did snap, you're screwed.
  17. I just had some snow tires put on my 90 Subaru Legacy AWD 4EAT wagon at les schwab. They told me my front brakes are at about 30%. I know that they're pretty bad right now because they don't work too well. My question is, should I get this done at the dealership and pay them to do it? Or should I buy online or at an auto parts place and do it myself? I'm fine with doing it myself, just wondering if I'll save enough doing it myself for it to be worth it. What are some good brake rotors? Tirerack has brembo replacement rotors. $36 each for the front, $41 each for the rears. But what does this mean? Front Fitment Note: (Front) Plain vented rotor. Excludes 4WD Turbo models. Vented? Slotted? Shows a picture of a regular rotor though. I thought I read on here somewhere not to put aftermarket slotted or drilled brakes on legacies for some reason. That was a long time ago so I can't remember who said it or why.
  18. 4 inches? Are you sure? Maybe that's just a bad angle but it looks like 1 inch. Why is the front so high?
  19. Pretty much all the bearings were out on my 90 legacy when I got it. 3 of them at least. I don't have a press and the dealer wanted like $1600 to replace them all. That is crazy and there's no way I'm putting $1600 into changing bearings on a car I bought for $400. So I went to the junkyard and since I couldn't get the bearings out without a press, I just took the entire hub assembly off. Why get the bearings out when you can just throw the whole hub assembly on your car and it's way easier? This a major pain in the rump roast to do at the junkyard though. It's very hard to get the axle nut off without an impact gun. Especially when a lot of th tranny's are missing from the cars in the yard and the axle just spins when you turn the nut. At the junkard near where I live, the parts are the cheapest I've ever found. About 20 bucks will buy you the whole hub assembly! For $30 you can buy an entire door, glass, door panal and everything! The tranny is only $175 plus your core or $200 without it. I think engines are about the same price.
  20. You're not supposed to drive in FWD mode. It's only for emergencies. I've been told it will burn up your duty c selonoid. I don't know if someone has mentioned this because I didn't feel like reading the entire thread but I thought I'd let you know. I put a 93 or 94 tranny in my 90 and it was a different ratio tranny so I had to get the rear diff but I didn't change the TCU or anything else and it's ran great for over a year.
  21. I don't know when I'll have time to look at it. Possibly tomorrow(today I guess it's 7am but I'm going to bed now)but I don't know. My girlfriend is coming over and probably going to be here all day and then I have to go to work at night. I may not have time to give it a good look until wednesday.
  22. 5,000 haha! For a legacy wagon. If she's going with the insurance, they will blue book it and you won't get a say in it. Or they'll have it looked at and see what condition it was in and then make an estimate or something gay. Insurance companies are *********************s and they try to screw you. So screw them back as much as possible!
  23. I have a 90 Subaru Legacy L wagon AWD 5 spd that I bought and was going to sell for more money but it had a bad bearing in the tranny so no one wanted it. Anyways, it's been sitting for over a year and today I finally got around to replacing a hub assembly that I took off and put on my other legacy. Then I tried starting it and it's dead. So I was jump starting it with my good legacy and it was out of gas. So I went to the gas station and got 3 gallons and came back and dumped them in there. The car still refuses to start. It's not chugging at all like it's trying to ignite. Either it's flooded because there's no spark or there's no fuel getting to the engine. The car ran fine before. Except when you tried starting it, the car would die unless you gave it gas. When it was warmed up, it was fine. What should I be checking out? I didn't have anymore time today because it was dark and raining on me. I don't know if I'll have time tomorrow to look at it either.
