  1. I just put 1/3 of a can through the carb. I will buy some amsoil soon. I am going to put an EGR valve, timing belt, ac and alt belt, O2 sensor on the car today hopefully. Spark plugs and wires looked good to me.
  2. I just purchased a 98 Chevy Metro and it's carborated. Is it a good idea to run seafoam through this engine? Where should I put it in? Straight into the carb? Would it do anything to put it in the gas tank or techron in the tank?
  3. So I can't buy one of these 2.0Twin Turbo engines for my 90 Legacy AWD wagon? I'd really like one of these because I think the idea of eating ricers alive in a wagon is just great. It's not right hand drive... What exactly are the issues with this?
  4. I have a 90 Legacy AWD auto wagon. My fuel light comes on at random times anywhere from 1/3 of a tank to empty. And by the time it gets to "E", it's never on. At "E" I usually have about 12 gallons of gas used, leaving 4 gallons? I will argue that the fuel light is a POS and I'll never go by that thing. I gots on at about 1/3 of a tank and then a couple minutes later it goes back off and does the on off thing whenever it feels like it and by the time the tank is actually down to "E" the light isn't even on.
  5. Not worth it at all. Believe me. I had to replace my A/T tranny in my 90 Legacy and the best one I found at the yard was a 94 with 140,00 miles on it. So I did the swap(MAJOR P.I.T.A)and then heard a grinding noise in the rear end. Turns out I think I started with 4.11 gearing and swapped the tranny which came with the front diff attached to it that was 3.90. I had to go back and get the rear diff to match. The car is now a little slower than it already was. I think this was the case, it could have been the other way around, 3.90 to 4.11. I don't remember nor do I know which means what. I get 25.5 mpg mainly going 50-55 mph. Gas in here is 3.50:eek: I'm saving for a diesel VW because 25 mpg just flat out sucks in my opinion. Plus diesel is FINALLY cheaper than gas here! YaY!
  6. I beat my friends 92 honda accord(about 92,not sure)on a very long straightaway. She wouldn't let me pass, kept swerving all over the road so I couldn't pass, the finally she let me and I barely passed her lol. That's with a 90 2.2 Legacy wagon my friends. Automatic AWD. It wasn't from a dead stop though, it was from about 50 mph up to almost 100.
  7. Yeah my light comes on at about 1/3 tank then it goes off a minute later and comes back on at random times from there to E. By the time it's on or past E the light never comes on though. And someone on here told me to just trust that stupid light because it always comes on at a certain amount of fuel left... I would have run out of gas waiting for that light to come on.
  8. I don't understand how they can only have 400 HP with a 6.0 liter engine these days. Lame. Sure it's a lot but I expect more. If you're going to make a fast car that has 300+hp you might as well screw gas milage all together and make it as fast as possible. I guess it wouldn't sell as much but go big or go home.
  9. I highly recommend going to the junkyard and seeing if an older generation speaker will fit in there. Replace them both, I noticed the the older gen legacies have coax speakers in some of them and this means they have a built in tweeter on the speaker with a crossover built in as well to filter the low frequencies out for the tweeter. I'm assuming these sound better than those you have. 10 bucks at my local junkyard for a pair. They actually sound pretty damn good for stock. I'm in the process of replacing mine at the moment, though. http://xs314.xs.to/xs314/07172/DSC02517.JPG http://xs314.xs.to/xs314/07172/DSC02515.JPG http://xs114.xs.to/xs114/07173/DSC02487.JPG
  10. So would you say my gas guage is off or it is normal to be on "E" at almost 12 gallons used. That means there's 4 gallons left when I fill up, EVERY TIME. Which means, I could 400 miles on a tank if I ran it empty. Also, why does my fuel light come on at about 1/3 tank then goes off a minute later and comes on randomly from there til the end of the tank and when it's below "E" and it's not even on! What would you guestimate for HP of a 90 legacy wagon? After all these years, runs good, regular oil change, new timing belt and knock sensor, o2 sensor and fuel filter, plugs, wires. I know it's not 130 anymore lol...100?110 maybe?
  11. 3.15 here in olympia, washington...not cool. The diesel jetta/golf is more attractive to me every day...I may be going to the dark side this summer. 25 miles per gallon just doesn't cut it for me.
  12. lol that link brings you to a 90. But even better, he already emailed me anyways. Thanks
  13. I'll try a locksmith, maybe on my day off. I have been driving in this car for over a year and haven't locked the doors once. If someone accidently locks them(it's a miracle it hasn't happened yet!)I'm locked out! I have probably 700 dollars worth of audio in this vehicle, so I'm kind of risking balls here. Boy, would I love to lock my car! If I weren't so cheap I'd tint the windows so you couldn't see the sub and cd player and the amp. I've got a couple grand saved up but I was planning on saving for a new car. My other subaru is in much nicer condition but has crappy tires, a wierd problem with the engine, missing a passenger side hub assembly(I needed it on my other car more!)but other than that it's in great condition. The engine dies when started the first time. Then it's fine. If you give it some gas when you start it, everything is ok. Oh! I almost forgot, it has a bad bearing(I think)in the tranny. When you have the clutch in, all is well but anytime the clutch pedal is out, you hear a grinding sort of noise. Even in neutral. I don't know if the locks have been replaced or not. I want to sell that other car because it's a nice car, the paint is very nice, the interior is clean, unlike my other daily driver legacy. They're both 1990 AWD, DD is auto and the one sitting in the backyard is stick.
  14. The people wouldn't give us the keys to the car and we basically had to steal it from them. So my step dad just broke the ignition and started it up with a screwdriver. Little did they know we had already bought the car from their parents and transfered the title in our name. They called the cops and they cop said it was ours to take. But still they wouldn't give up the keys. Parents did not get along with drug addict daughter who was borrowing the car. I guess I could go get the ignition from the same car in the junkyard but I thought on these cars the ignition and locks are different keys. I have another legacy and it has two different keys, one for ignition and one for locks. The first time I got an ignition, I got the locks as well and there was a key in it! But when I got home I noticed the driver side lock was broken and they weren't able to use on either side. The AMSOIL says that if you use a regular different brand filter than you must change the oil at normal intervals but if you use their filter only to change it every 12 months or 25,000 miles. So I got their oil shipped with their filter for something like 70 bucks. I plan to change it in the fall. I put it in the car back in december I think. I drive 15,000 miles per year so it should be fine. I'll check the oil regularly to make sure it looks alright. My car doesn't seem to burn any oil though. And although there appears to be oil soaked all over the bottom of the block, the oil level never goes down! But, when I got the car, the oil cap wasn't even on! It was laying by the battery under the hood and oil was everywhere! I've replaced oil, filter, plugs, wires, air filter, fuel filter, knock sensor, timing belt, heater core, tranny, tires...
  15. First off, they're about a 90 legacy L AWD 4eat Wagon. 1. My power mirrors quit working and I know it's not the mirrors because once in a while they work for a second and I replaced one and it still doesn't work. Does the switch go bad somehow? 2. Is it bad to leave the rear defroster on 24/7? I do... 3. Has anyone ever gotten locks out of the junkyard for the doors and taken the vin number or the locks themselves and had keys made for them? My car never came with any keys. I removed some locks from another car of the same year in the junkyard recently but the subaru dealer won't make me a key for them. Even if I give them the vin. 4. Anyone run AMSOIL? I have AMSOIL full synthetic in my car and it says I think 25,000 miles or one year for the oil change intervals?! Do you wait that long? I've read that changing oil too soon can be bad for you engine. But I've never done an entire year without an oil change! My friends won't put AMSOIL in their vehicles because it costs too much but in the end of the year you save money and you get full synthetic from the best oil company out there! Fools...
  16. Craigslist will do that. I listed my toyota pickup on there last fall and I barely got outside my house and I already had a call. Not 5 minutes for posting it. I got like 13 more that day! The annoying thing is that no one seems to read the whole ad. I guess if you only put a couple sentences they might but I wrote a history of the damn thing so I wouldn't have to answer a ton of questions over the phone. Also, no one has any respect from craigslist. I wrote in big font on the ad not to call after 9 and I had people calling me at 2 in the morning. If it's some stoners, I would consider that thing dead. That's sad, I love my legacy! Even if it is a wagon. Coolest wagon I've ever been in!
  17. Who's got a wiring diagram for the stereos in 90 Subaru Legacy's? I just replaced my older eclipse head unit with a premier p880prs and my settings won't stay when the car is off. I checked all the wires with a multimeter with the ignition off and none of them have 12volts. One wire had about 2volts in it but none have a constant 12v to save the settings and the clock on the cd player. I checked the radio fuse in the fusebox and it's perfectly fine. The eclipse head unit worked fine and all the settings stayed in the cd player and I hooked the pioneer deck up with the same wires! What the hell happened here?! Of course, the subaru wires are not color coordinated at all. None of the wires are the right colors as most head units are. For instance a pair of speaker wires would be something like a green wire with a brown stripe mathed with a blue wire with a yellow stripe. It makes no sense at all! I don't have the manual so I don't know how to look them up but it wouldn't do me any good because I already checked all the wires with the multimeter 3 times and none of them have a signal while the car is off. This is really frustrating and it pretty much makes the head unit's features useless because who wants to sit and tune the system every time you start the car?!
  18. Yep, I hear that! My 90 is pushing 285,000! Original engine was replaced and I don't know when or how many miles the old one had nor how many the new one has. But I replaced the 4EAT myself and it's got 150,000 on it. It's from a 94 legacy.
  19. Doesn't the code automatically clear once the problem is fixed? Are you sure it's fixed?
  20. Isn't the idle speed controlled only by ECU? I just realized that it's an outback but my 90 legacy cannot be adjusted. I read in the haynes book that the ECU controlls timing and idle speed and neither can be manually adjusted. I would assume it's the same with a newer outback. Check compression? Injectors? No ECU codes?
  21. Yep, aftermarket for this car is pretty much zip. Engine swap is your only REAL option, IMO. I doubt you'll notice much gains from messing with your intake system(I bet you'll wind up with a loss actually)or bolting on an exhaust. These engines do sound pretty mean with an exhaust though. But I like to hear my music so I prefer it quiet.
  22. I used to wash/detail cars at a lincoln mercury mazda dealership and the detail guy(I was the lot boy but I did detail the cars a lot too)would wash the engines of every car he detailed off with a pressure washer that he owned himself. He sprayed it down real good with a bottle of degreaser and let it sit for a while. Then he blasted it clean with the pressure washer. Never had a problem with it. Didn't cover anything up. He did this every single day for the entire 8 months that I worked there. I did it too because I figured if he does it and he's been working there doing it forever, must be alright. I'm not recommending it, I'm just saying that an experienced detailer did it daily at his job. I think that's how they do it at most dealerships too. Trust me, if you go to a dealership and look at the used cars you'll see how clean those engines are and you know they are NOT going to waste their time cleaning it with a hose, haha. They had this other nifty chemical called SAR that will take off any scuff marks or rubber right off your car. Off the interior, off the outside of the car from tire rubber or asphalt that you could scrub for days and never get off. They have another chemical that takes the hardest dried bugs right off. Just spray it on and then wipe them right off in one pass with a rag. That SAR stuff also gets rid of those nasty water marks on your windows. I miss all those chemicals, made my vehicles look nice and pretty.
  23. Yeah, I hate wiper blades. This is the best pair I've had so far but I've only had them on for a few days. They always seem to work fine for a month or so and then they quickly decline in performance. So, we'll see... Speaking of rear wiper, the motor for my rear window doesn't work and never has. I don't really mind though. I think I'm gonna take the wiper arm off.
