in a bout of laziness i had pepboys do the brake job..... big mistake. from day one they squealed every time i braked and gradually got louder until i got fed up and said "if you want it done right you gotta do it yourself", so i pulled a wheel off and surprise, NO SHIMS . so i went to dealer and paid $80 and did it myself and 5 months later..... NO NOISE:clap: . i mean completely silent!!!! $80 well spent.

all i know about snow tires is that i went cheap and bought Kelly Magna Grip. good choice. after 1 winter they show very little wear. driving up and down an icy and snowy hill was cake. and in nonwinter situations they feel and grip similar to A/S tires. total set $250 at jack williams for 185/70/14. my 2cents;) i should add that i haven't driven them in steep mountain country yet......

autozone $44 -
once upon a time i was working as an apprentice at an auto repair shop and i recommended to a customer who happened to be my neighbor that the atf be changed in his 83 oldsmobile with 150,000 miles. one week later it totally died. so i gather that you're saying in subarus that's unlikely. btw- the fluid is definitely not original, it's not black nor does it smell burned. maybe it's 5 years old? i'm thinking about having the dealer do the flush and filter change. keep the suggestions coming. thanx.

well, what's your experience? help, harm, or no difference? the fluid is light brown. AWD works perfectly with no torque bind. it shifts very well except into 3rd. when warm that shift occurs a bit slowly but ok. however, in cold weather if i don't let it idle until warm it bumps into 3rd. to change or not to change???

when my knock sensor went bad it sometimes ran rough or stalled, and sounded strange when decellerating. got the new one at Autozone in Carlisle for $44. 6000 miles later no problem.
