  1. From what I know from reading around on nasioc, around 400whp is probably about the "safe" limit of the stock block for most people. The STi 6 speeds are supposed to be pretty durable though. I know that about have the people on nasioc have completely shredded the stock 5 speeds on the WRX, then swapped in 6 speeds and havent had much of a problem. As mentioned before though, getting a PPG Dogbox is probably your best bet if you want to push a whole lot of power. I don't think I have ever heard of anyone breaking one. As far as the nose issue, I believe they offer the option of either helical or straight-cut gears. I think it is pretty common for the 4 speeds to have 1-2 straight cut and 3-4 helical for quieter cruising. So... What exactly do you have in mind?
  2. How are the first impressions of the new car? As someone who has never driven an EA, I like to know what the old-gen people think when they finally make the switch. As far as bad stuff about the 02s, I think the only real complaints I know of are the turbo lag on the 2.0 and that the transmissions tend to not to stand up to a whole lot of abuse, but I'm pretty sure thats mostly the NASIOC crowd with that particular problem. I'm jealous. Pics are definitely needed when you get the car back.
  3. Howdy neighbor. At the 5-7k range, if you can have a clean, presentable looking vehicle I think people would snatch them up as fast as you could build them. An AWD TT car with more hp for less than a WRX? To tell you the truth, I plan on purchasing a WRX in the next year or two, but I would really have to consider a TT legacy, especially since you are just on the other side of the mountain from me.. Got any pictures?
  4. I'm interested in seeing how this turns out, because I am dealing with a similar shake that I can't seem to place (Alignment, balancing didn't fix). Now that you mention it, it started a while after turning the brake rotors.
  5. Picture actually should be of a '97 Outback. The previous owner of mine completely fried the original engine, and since a newer one has been put in, I haven't had any problems or complaints. (although I did just manage to break the backlight on the gear selector tonight....grrrr) If you find one that has already gone through the whole ordeal with the HGs then you are pretty safe.
  6. I test drove one and loved it, and if I had the money to spend on it right now it would be sitting in my driveway. So far, no one has anything to say bad about them except for the questionably different styling, and I would be surprised if anything does show up over the next few years. As far as gas milage goes, im not really sure how they compare to what the sticker says. Anyone else have any input?
  7. Glad to hear you are liking it! Does it have a name yet? You really should line it up with rocky to take some photos. I think they make an awesome pair of vehicles.
  8. Actually, instead of it being a true 2 door, I believe it has suicide doors for the rear. Definitely just a concept, and I sure hope it stays that way if the front would look anything like that.
  9. Naturally, 10 miles after you ditch the spare, you WILL get a flat. Murphy can be a real *************** sometimes.
  10. A friend showed this to me yesterday, and I figured everyone here would get a kick out of it if it hasn't already been posted somewhere. One more reason to wheel a 'yota. Part 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hzRLG8dA-E Part 2a Part 2b
  11. I bought a sony headunit and cut and re-soldered all the wires. I would recommend going with an aftermarket stereo and the adapter kit.
  12. Congrats! I'll probably hit it in a year or so in my Outback, but I must admit it's on its third engine.
  13. I am somewhat curious about how you have the wood grain din trim. I also have a '97 Outback Wagon Limited, and it has the other bits of wood grain trim on the shifter and the window control switches. I must admit that I never seen an Outback of that particular shade of blue on the road either. I have to agree with you that none of the controls came where they should have been. I'm looking forward to seeing how it all ends up. And if you decide to swap out the gauges, I would be happy to take those off your hands!
  14. There was an excellent writeup on it around a while ago, but I'm not sure exactly where it was. I looked into it myself a while back, and it seems like it would be more cost effective just to buy a new car. I hope that whoever is doing it knows what they are getting into.
  15. Just finished testing a new wrx sedan, and it felt amazing. Unfortunately, I was a little new to the clutch to feel comfortable putting it through its paces. Rode amazingly well for a sports car, felt much smother than my outback. I might be in the market for one in a few years when they start showing up used.
  16. The price and specifications ( legacy L, 2.2, 130hp) lead me to believe that someone mixed up the pictures when updating the website. Who knows, maybe you could use this screwup to get a LGT for under a grand.
  17. Got a new camera today, and needed something to take pictures of. My subject in these pictures happened to be my 1971 Toyota Landcruiser that I plan on either restoring or turning into a wheeling rig when I manage to get the time for it. Feel free to make any comments/suggestions. Have to run now, but I have a few more of the straight six under the hood that I might stick up later.
  18. Thats pretty cool. Ive never actually known anyone with one of the RB320's. Pics would be awesome.
  19. I think I would have to put my eyes out. The closest thing I can image resembles I a riced-out camry. I really wish they would just pull out the 2k4 (my personal favorite year) molds and add a few updates. On the upside, the new engine is supposed to reach peak torque a lot faster than the previous year.
  20. For the price I would have to consider it also. I would loke to see a version of it a little closer to what we would see sitting at a dealership than the futuristic prototype.
  21. Apparently Toyota is giving some though to bringing back the classic AE86 http://www.autoblog.com/2007/08/01/rumoured-new-ae86-more-details/ The one part of the article that caught my eye was that FHI would be providing the drivetrain for it. Made me wonder if it would be based off of Subaru's current offerings, or if it would be an entire new design.
