  1. Don't think torque converters fail, now the "bands", that's a different story.
  2. Aren't there lots of 4 lugged wheel availble with slotted holes. None of them are slotted to 140mm?? How big do they usually go?
  3. That make more sense then 100mm. i was sure it was a wide pattern close to the subes. Theoretically a machine shop could elongate the holes and countersinks the extra 5mm. Wayne

  5. Old school VW Beetle wheels have a very similair bolt pattern to 4 lug Subes. Are they the same?? Guess you know where i'm goin with this... Wayne
  6. If you've got no water circulation and motor set out a while. Could be the water passages have some critters, nest, debris. Wayne
  7. If the car was sitting for a long period, could be stuck rings. If that's the case just dump a can of Marvel Mystery Oil in the case and see if the rings free up after running a while. Rings can get rusty and jam in the piston grooves.
  8. That vinyl stripe actually covers the original RED "fadeout effect" OEM stripe. She musta been stunning on the showroom floor!!
  9. There were a sprinkling of foreign cars. There were a few nice asian tuners, some first gen beetles, a Bentley, a real Mini. Mine was the only vintage japanese car. One tuner was a WRX. The fact it was factory turbocharged, helped it fit it pretty well. nice to see something other then "just 4 barrelled V8's with headers" Wayne
  10. Don't recall my book mentioning anything except requiring 90 octane. Was that in your 87 book or the one for the 92? Thanks, Wayne
  11. Has anyone tried E85 in their ea82. Any problems??:-\
  12. Thanks! Yeah, one of the few cars ever designed to approach aircraft air-flow standards. Too bad the only thing the US market cares about is HP:banghead: Wayne
  13. Here are some pix... The XT Turbo at the IBC car show. Sorry, no awards:-\ But, there was plenty interest in the car
  14. Would like to replace some of the old decals on my XT. Are they available?:-\ Wayne
  15. Here's a couple of photos posted a while back... Taken a few weeks ago in Annapolis, Md.

  17. Check the "spider" or steering knuckle below where the strut is attached. There should be a part of the casting that projects out that acts as a stop to limit the range of steering. You can usually tell where the rust is worn off from contact with the hub plate. Can't remember exactly what a gen1 stop looks like, but i seem to recall that it was rather fragile. You could just check to see if the front wheels angle-out equally when the steering wheel locks in both directions. If the wheels angle-out more sharply with the steering wheel turned all the way right, maybe the right stop is broken off or bent. Or vice a versa. Wayne
  18. Might be the steering turn stop is missing or broken on one side, or both letting the wheel turn too far for the CV. I think my 79 wagon had a broken stop and i had to be careful with hyper extending the cv's. As i recall, the steering would kind of "flop and lock" when going past where the stop would normally be. If your steering tends to lock when turning all the way one way or the other, that's probably the cause of your CV failures. Wayne
  19. Can't you use the old one with the extra wiring. Won't it just bolt in?? Wayne
  20. My poor 79 wagon was 4wd and all, and it ran great right to the end when it would no longer pass WV inspection due to rust. (found out later that i went to the wrong inspection station IYKWIM:brow: ) thought that little side window in the rear was so cool:D With all the ground clearance it just loved rough terrain:) Wayne
  21. She looks in prime shape! Did all gen 1 subes have front disk brakes? Can't remember if my old 79 wagon did or not. Wayne
  22. Ship it if you possibly can. You'll pay a fortune for one over seas:eek: Wayne
  23. Does she give a CEL? Did you check the ECU for any codes? Wayne
