What the heck is this thing?
Okay, I see how it should be. But I dont see any way on the "thing" itself to attach it to there. Like I said, my compressor has a valve stem type fitting there. It is threaded on the outside of it, so maybe this deal used to thread over the top of it. But if there was once something on the end to thread it over the valve stem thing, it is gone now. So, I'm stumped now if I even need it or not. My A/C works very well, and I am not sure if I want to mess with it given that fact. What do you think? Also, did you happen to look and see if your car has that little bracket thing right under the clutch cable return spring like mine does (shown in the other pictures), and if so, what is in it? Thanks, Bobby

What the heck is this thing?
Sorry I haven't gotten back to this sooner. Been very busy. But it's the weekend finally !!! So, I am not sure. I seem to remember a couple of years ago when I had some questions about the A/C, GD identified it as a York for me. I looked again, but could not find a name on it..

need a part indentified please
The numbers on the label are posted on this link on page 1. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=107700 I am going to agree that it is a temp sensor like GD suggested, and so did Moosens on the Historic forum. I think I will just let it be, since it does not affect how the car runs.

Thanks for the info on the "can". I am betting it is some kind of temp sensor also. The wires trace through the firewall on the passenger side of the car. I did not get under the dash to see where they went after that. Well, I guess if it does not affect the overall runnning condition of the car, I will just let it be. In other words; "leave well enough alone". Right?

Yes, it does have dealer installed A/C. I think I found a clip that holds it, but I still don't know if it should have anything attached to the end that has a hole in it. I posted a picture on the other link if you care to look and see what you think. Thanks, Bobby. P.S. That "Yeild" I bought from you is some pretty incredible stuff. Thanks again for doing that for us....

What the heck is this thing?
Okay, I tried this, is not spring loaded, it is solid inside. Also tried plugging the hole while the car was running, nothing changed. I can't see anywhere it would have been attached...However, I did find a "U" shaped clip on a bracket just below the clutch cable return spring that this little gizmo, whatever it is, fits in very nicely. I put it in there and took a picture so you could see. Maybe someone with the same motor in their car could look and see if they have one and if it is connected to anything other than the two wires that come out of it.

It does have a small hole in the end. I will have my boyfriend test it to see what happens. That way, if he gets ejected through the roof, or it self destructs, I can blame him....right? Good idea though, I will try it. I will check this also. The car does have A/C, but it seems to be working fine. Yes it is an '80. I'm not sure what extra "can" you mean, but it is an '80. Don't think it's a California model, but I'm not sure. Is there some way to tell?

They are electrical wires. I totally forgot about Paul. I will shoot him a message. I do appreciate your answering me though. Have a good one! Bobby

What the heck is this thing?
I found this thing dangling on the drivers side of the engine bay today. I went out to change my spark plugs, and there it was. I had some work done a few months ago by a garage, (when I fried the wiring in my car:banghead: and I coulldn't fix it myself), and I am wondering if they knocked it loose from somewhere. I have no clue what it is, or what it does or where it goes, or if it something should be plugged into the little hole on the one end. I followed the wires, they go into the firewall on the passenger side of the car. The numbers on it are 071-526035-F01 9908 05 CI 200 CO 300 Any info would be appreciated.....thanks in advance...Bobby

Call me bad luck Bobby today
Okay, so I finally gave up and took the car to a mechanic that had some knowledge about wiring on my car. Three days, and $300 later , I got her back. I guess there were a bunch of wires that got fried when everything went south, and a fuse under the dash somewhere that I had no clue even existed. But they got it all fixed up for me. So now I'm thinkin' she'll be good for another 3o years or so. (I should be so lucky). Thanks to all who tried to help out. I really do appreciate it.

First major BRAT problem
Hi Doug; MY 1980 BRAT went haywire like this on my way to work one morning. Left the house just fine, 2o miles down the road it was like someone was grabbing the wheel and pulling it hard to the right and it was wobbling and weaving. It ended up being my left CV axle. I'm not sure that your car has the same issue, but I had the axle changed and the problem went away. I had been noticing a slight clicking for a month or so before this, but it was real weird how it went kablooey all at once, with no real warning. Don't know of your's is the same thing, but I thought I would toss in my two pennies worth.

Call me bad luck Bobby today
Aww come on guys. Someone must have an idea. Checked the ignition module last night, it is good. So now I'm even more stumped.
-
Call me bad luck Bobby today
Well, I picked up the new ignition switch, got it installed, turn the key, starts right up, brake/charge lights still on, runs for a few seconds and dies. Start again, while its running, turn it off, pull out the key, still running. So, my question is, what do I try or replace now? I am going to the j/y to get a different ignition module tomorrow,( a new one is $400:eek:) at least I think that's what it's called. It's attached to the coil with a bracket. Hopefully the one or two I get won't be bad also. If that doesn't work, I guess it's off to the mechanic and pay their outrageous prices to figure it out for me. I really wish I knew more about electrical stuff on cars. It's probably something really simple and I don't have enough knowledge to see it. And what is that box with all the wires coming out of it that is on the side wall of the strut tower right above the coil and ign. module? I haven't figured that one out yet. I've almost spent as much as I paid for the whole car trying to fix what I broke. I feel so sorry for my poor little self. But seriously, if anyone has any ideas of what to try next, or feels like coming to Utah to help me out (kidding of course)....I'd be very grateful.

From all your input, and a trial and error process, it has been narrowed down to the igintion switch. My friend at checker found me a new switch, so as soon as I have that, I will try it out and see if it works. The only difference in that the new one has spade type connectors on the back for the wires instead of solder joints. I am hoping it is labeled like the old one so I can get the wires in the correct places so I don't fry anything else. Thanks Bill, (The Beast I Drive) for calling me last night to offer your help. I still may need those parts we spoke about. If I can't make this other one work for whatever reason, I will be calling you back. Keep your eyes crossed for me guys, I need all the luck I can get.

1999 Outback P0304 code help!
bratgrl replied to newsance's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXMy friends 98 Legacy wagon is giving her this same code. It comes and goes, and she says it comes on when she is going about 75 to 80 mph, Sometimes it will stay on for a little while and then go out, and sometimes it comes on and stays on for days. She has paid her mechanic hundreds of dollars to diagnose and correct the problem. None of his "fixes" so far have worked. The latest fix last week lasted for about 10 miles down the road. She says he has checked EGR, PCV, and a whole bunch of other stuff she can't recall. I will be watching with interest to see what you guys come up with.

Hi Bill, I would really appreciate you sending me whatever you think I need. You can contact me at 801-550-3731 to arrange payment and get my address and such. I also will need instructions on how to get the switch apart if you don't mind. I looked at it, but my brain is so fried, I cannot figure it out. I will also try doing a search in the forums to see if I can find any instructions. And I promise I will NEVER ever power wash the poor little car again... Hi Paul; I was waiting to hear from Qman about a service manual that he had. I sent him my info, but have not heard back as of yet. Guess I'll do a search for one of those also to see if anyone has one they are willing to part with. Did a search on e-bay and bought a service manual for $12.95. So hopefully that will help me out when I have questions or problems in the future. Thanks again everyone for all the great advice, I'll let you know how it goes.

Call me bad luck Bobby today
Okay, now I'm really really confused. Got the new coil, put it on, car starts, but again will not stay running. Jumper the fuel pump, car starts, runs, stays running, charge light is still on dammit, turn off the key, pull key from inginition, car is STILL running:eek:, pull jumper wire, car finally stops when it runs out of gas. What the He!!?:banghead: Please, someone put me out of my misery and tell me why this is happening. I'm really not good with wiring, and I don't know anyone that is that can help me. Chasing wire shorts and such is not my strong suit. I know I may be beating a dead horse here, but if anyone ideas where to even start looking, I would at least make an attempt if I had any clue where to start. I would need semi-detailed instructions though, cause like I said, wiring and me don't play well together. Last resort, I'll have to pay someone to figure it out for me. Hate to do that with labor rates so high, and I know how time consuming chasing electrical problems can be. But, I'll have to buck up and break out the credit card I guess. Again thanks to all who have and all who might help.... Bobby
