  1. +1:burnout: I am totally jealous.....Congrats!!!
  2. Driving home from work yesterday, and this is what happened. Had to stop and take a picture.. I know this is only one roll, (unlike some of yours out there that have rolled a couple of times, or more), but I'm hoping she'll last me long enough to roll at least one more time. If I live that long:banana: Stupid work computer won't load the pic, so here's the link. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=20456&cat=500&ppuser=19374
  3. I think it is the York compressor, will have to check to be sure. I am assuming that I should adjust the idle with the AC running....any special tricks I should know? Bobby
  4. I posted this in the "Historic" forum, not much response, (Although I do want to thank Grossgary for his suggestion), so I thought I would try here, where there seems to be more activity....if that's okay with the Mods and everyone else. I have a '1980 Brat, EA71, and when the AC is running, the car will barely stay at an idle when you pull up to a red light or stop sign. And there is a weird "growly" noise under the hood somewhere. The AC works really well when the car is at speed going down the road. And the "growly" noise goes away. I have checked the pulley and it seems to be fine. That was one of the first things I did check, because the compressor went out on one of my trucks I use to have, so I knew to check that first. The problem is that unless I keep the car running at high RPM's when I stop at a light or whatever when the air conditioner is on, it almost stalls out. I was thinking that maybe there was some switch or something on the idle setting that bumps it up when the AC is on that wasn't working properly. I searched here and in the HTKYSA, and couldn't find anything about it. Maybe someone with a service manual could help????

  6. Hi there; I have a '1980 Brat, EA71, and when the AC is running, the car will barely stay at an idle, and there is a weird "growly" noise from the compressor. The AC works really well when the car is at speed going down the road. And the "growly" noise goes away. I don't use the AC all the time, but I would like to be able to use it without have to turn it off every time I stop at a light, or a stop sign so the car doesn't die, or keep my foot on the gas to keep the RPM's up. Is there some setting or adjustment or "idle bump" switch or something I need to check out?:-\ Thanks in advance for any help or advice you have.....Bobby
  7. I replace the bushings on both shifters in my '80 Brat. They were both rattling so bad I couldn't hear all the other rattles.... It was really very easy to do. The only PITA was pulling up the boots and then getting them to stick back down. There is someone on here that makes replacement boots that you can screw down, but I didn't see those until after I had already put mine back on. Had no trouble getting the parts from the local Subaru dealer. Here's a link to part numbers and pics, http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=14981&cat=500&ppuser=19374 Hope this helps. Bobby
  8. We're here, we're just hidin' and watchin' :-p
  9. A VALVE!! A VALVE!!! I NEED A VALVE IF WE CAN GET THEM.....
  10. Here's my little piece of heaven.
  11. A sad day. But the upside is that ALL these wonderful subies are card carrying organ donors. They will live on in our hearts, and in our other subes. A fond farewell to ol'e brown......
  12. I would love a color one to replace this one I made. It is 12" tall. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=12910&cat=500&ppuser=19374 Let me know when you decide all the details....price, etc.. Bobby
  13. Hi Kyle; I have the "male bits" in a cupboard in my garage. You can have them if you want. Consider them an engagement present:) They just need a little cleaning and will be good to go. PM me if you are interested. Bobby
  14. Or....if you have access to a handheld GPS, set it to the "speed" page, take it in the car with you, drive at 60mph (or whatever) and see what the "speed" on the GPS says. I did this with my Jeep after I put the bigger tires on it. My Jeep is 11% off of what the speedo says, (i.e. if I'm doing 65mph according to the speedo, I am actually doing around 72 mph). Then you will be able to calculate the difference and you will know exactly how fast you are going, and knowing is half the battle.
  15. Thanks guys ! I never even thought of that. I was imagining the worst. I will get the u-joints checked out. Hopefully, it is something that simple. Bobby
  16. Okay, I know this is strange, but I have a feeling someone out there will have experienced this, or may know what causes it and if it's anything to worry about. When I'm going any faster than 65 mph, my Brat makes this weird kind of noise. I've only heard it once before, on my pickup that had a bent driveline, and a cracked transfer case, so it was causing what the driveline repair guy called a "harmonic" vibration. I'm not quite sure how to explain it to you. If you have a table top fan, when they are running, they kind of change pitch, but the speed it's rotating doesn't change.......so it makes a kinda whirring sound. I hope you get the idea. The car doesn't shake or rattle or anything like that, it just makes a strange humming noise. I don't know if it's in the motor or what. What the hell could this be? Is it serious? Is it dangerous? Is something going to fall off the car? Is it going to implode/explode? Am I just going insane and hearing things? Help?
  17. Well HELL,( hee hee, I said Hell:grin: ) this time the pictures worked just fine. Just took a little cussing to convince my computer to co-operate I guess. Nice paint job too. Sometimes the best work is done in a garage in the middle of the night....
  18. Hi Paul; Sorry I haven't answered you sooner. Just got back into town late last night and finally got a chance to check the board. I will check the rocker panels today after work and let you know what kind of shape they are in. If I remember correctly (it's been a while since I looked at them), they were in pretty good shape. Probably just need to be polished up a little. Talk to you soon....... Bobby
  19. I can't see the pictures What the h e double toothpicks.....All I get is a little square with a X I wanna see...... :banghead:
  20. I was curious.....I have a 1980 Brat, and the skid plate is gone off of mine also. Are there disadvantages to not having one on there? Taking into consideration that my Brat will probably never go off roading, (got a Jeep for that). I'm just wondering if I need to invest in one for any reason. Does it help keep the snow and slush and other such crud from flinging up into the engine compartment? And by the way Daniel, if you (or anyone else) are interested, I have all the chrome, upper and lower, that goes down the sides of the Brat. When I painted mine, I opted to not re-install the chrome.
  21. Hi guys; I replaced both of my shifter bushings, the rattle was driving me nuts! I found mine at our local Subaru dealer. The rubber bushing that goes on the bottom of the shifter are the same for both. I also got the dust seal ( they call it a "tie rod dust seal") for the regular shifter because the one on mine was smashed flat. The clip that holds that on may or may not be bad. Mine was not, so I did not have to replace that. The little plastic bushings that the mounting bolt go through on the upper part of the shifter may or may not to be replaced also. Mine did not. Although I did order the parts, just in case, and just returned them when I found they were not needed. I posted a pic of the invoice from Subaru with the part numbers on my photo page. I also included a picture the parts guy gave me at the dealership. The link is below. Hope this helps. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=14976&cat=500&ppuser=19374
