  1. Now don't think for a minute that I didn't consider this. But I don't know how easy it would be to find another guy that would park his brand new truck outside and let me take over his garage to work on my projects.:-p Kinda rare these days... Wounded Brat, I did want to drive, but........it was raining REALLY hard when we left Reno, and the BF thinks that 'cause I'm just a girl (with only 11 more years driving experience than him I might add:headbang: ) I don't know how to drive in the rain..
  2. Brat is still there, still lonely, now with something LARGE laying across the bed... BF STILL would not stop to let me look at it:mad: . Guess I'm going to have to take my own road trip and check it out....OOooohhh you men....somedays......!!!!!
  3. Not trying to hi-jack this thread. It's just that my '80 Brat is kinda doing this same thing. I can pull the release, and you hear it unlatch, but the hood doesn't "pop" up so I can get in there to push the lever and lift it up. It'a a real PITA! Paul, could you add a new cable system to my radio order? Best to be prepared I'm thinkin' Thanks a bunch, Bobby
  4. Driving home from work yesterday, and this is what happened. Had to stop and take a picture.. I know this is only one roll, (unlike some of yours out there that have rolled a couple of times, or more), but I'm hoping she'll last me long enough to roll at least one more time. If I live that long:banana: Stupid work computer won't load the pic, so here's the link. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=20456&cat=500&ppuser=19374
  5. I think it is the York compressor, will have to check to be sure. I am assuming that I should adjust the idle with the AC running....any special tricks I should know? Bobby
  6. I posted this in the "Historic" forum, not much response, (Although I do want to thank Grossgary for his suggestion), so I thought I would try here, where there seems to be more activity....if that's okay with the Mods and everyone else. I have a '1980 Brat, EA71, and when the AC is running, the car will barely stay at an idle when you pull up to a red light or stop sign. And there is a weird "growly" noise under the hood somewhere. The AC works really well when the car is at speed going down the road. And the "growly" noise goes away. I have checked the pulley and it seems to be fine. That was one of the first things I did check, because the compressor went out on one of my trucks I use to have, so I knew to check that first. The problem is that unless I keep the car running at high RPM's when I stop at a light or whatever when the air conditioner is on, it almost stalls out. I was thinking that maybe there was some switch or something on the idle setting that bumps it up when the AC is on that wasn't working properly. I searched here and in the HTKYSA, and couldn't find anything about it. Maybe someone with a service manual could help????

  8. Hi there; I have a '1980 Brat, EA71, and when the AC is running, the car will barely stay at an idle, and there is a weird "growly" noise from the compressor. The AC works really well when the car is at speed going down the road. And the "growly" noise goes away. I don't use the AC all the time, but I would like to be able to use it without have to turn it off every time I stop at a light, or a stop sign so the car doesn't die, or keep my foot on the gas to keep the RPM's up. Is there some setting or adjustment or "idle bump" switch or something I need to check out?:-\ Thanks in advance for any help or advice you have.....Bobby
  9. I replace the bushings on both shifters in my '80 Brat. They were both rattling so bad I couldn't hear all the other rattles.... It was really very easy to do. The only PITA was pulling up the boots and then getting them to stick back down. There is someone on here that makes replacement boots that you can screw down, but I didn't see those until after I had already put mine back on. Had no trouble getting the parts from the local Subaru dealer. Here's a link to part numbers and pics, http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=14981&cat=500&ppuser=19374 Hope this helps. Bobby
  10. We're here, we're just hidin' and watchin' :-p
  11. A sad day. But the upside is that ALL these wonderful subies are card carrying organ donors. They will live on in our hearts, and in our other subes. A fond farewell to ol'e brown......
  12. I would love a color one to replace this one I made. It is 12" tall. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=12910&cat=500&ppuser=19374 Let me know when you decide all the details....price, etc.. Bobby
  13. Hi Kyle; I have the "male bits" in a cupboard in my garage. You can have them if you want. Consider them an engagement present:) They just need a little cleaning and will be good to go. PM me if you are interested. Bobby
  14. Or....if you have access to a handheld GPS, set it to the "speed" page, take it in the car with you, drive at 60mph (or whatever) and see what the "speed" on the GPS says. I did this with my Jeep after I put the bigger tires on it. My Jeep is 11% off of what the speedo says, (i.e. if I'm doing 65mph according to the speedo, I am actually doing around 72 mph). Then you will be able to calculate the difference and you will know exactly how fast you are going, and knowing is half the battle.
  15. Thanks guys ! I never even thought of that. I was imagining the worst. I will get the u-joints checked out. Hopefully, it is something that simple. Bobby
  16. Okay, I know this is strange, but I have a feeling someone out there will have experienced this, or may know what causes it and if it's anything to worry about. When I'm going any faster than 65 mph, my Brat makes this weird kind of noise. I've only heard it once before, on my pickup that had a bent driveline, and a cracked transfer case, so it was causing what the driveline repair guy called a "harmonic" vibration. I'm not quite sure how to explain it to you. If you have a table top fan, when they are running, they kind of change pitch, but the speed it's rotating doesn't change.......so it makes a kinda whirring sound. I hope you get the idea. The car doesn't shake or rattle or anything like that, it just makes a strange humming noise. I don't know if it's in the motor or what. What the hell could this be? Is it serious? Is it dangerous? Is something going to fall off the car? Is it going to implode/explode? Am I just going insane and hearing things? Help?
  17. Well HELL,( hee hee, I said Hell:grin: ) this time the pictures worked just fine. Just took a little cussing to convince my computer to co-operate I guess. Nice paint job too. Sometimes the best work is done in a garage in the middle of the night....
  18. Hi Paul; Sorry I haven't answered you sooner. Just got back into town late last night and finally got a chance to check the board. I will check the rocker panels today after work and let you know what kind of shape they are in. If I remember correctly (it's been a while since I looked at them), they were in pretty good shape. Probably just need to be polished up a little. Talk to you soon....... Bobby
