  1. Thanks Legacy777. No drugs or alcohol involved. Car hit on passenger side. I'm amazed at how well the Forester held together on top. These things are tanks. Both front and rear axles snapped.
  2. Lost my old friend last week (2004 Forester). My daughter was T-boned at 40 mph and the Forester rolled 1 1/2 times. She walked away with a bruised jaw. She gets the 2005 Impreza and I'm hunting. Can someone at a dealership get me a Car Fax on KNDJC733345304278 I ran an AutoCheck, but I would like to see if this vehicle has any dealer service records and only Car Fax provides that. If someone is kind enough to doe this, please email the file to bkcraun(at)aol(dot)com Thank you
  3. Hey guys, I just picked up a low mileage 2005 Impreza with the little motor. Is there anything I should be paying attention to in regards to potential trouble items? Thanks!
  4. Go to your local muffler shop and have them weld in a universal cat. You can probably get it done for less than $150 total.
  5. I have noticed the same thing. I have a 95 Legacy and a 04 Forester (28,000 miles). The 04 will spin before the 95 will. I think it is just due to it having more torque or maybe the gearing is lower. Just have to go easier on the gas.
  6. I installed a remanufactured starter from Advance Auto this afternoon.. Very simple to do with the starter on top like it is. Thanks for everyone's help.
  7. A few days ago, I went to start my 1995 Legacy and all I got was a click. I jumped the car and drove to Advance Auto to have them check evrything (it was a fairly new battery). Everything checked out as good...battery, alternator and starter. I went ahead and bought a new battery anyway for piece of mind. Well this morning, the same thing. Turn the ignition and all I get is a "click". After numerous attempts with jumper cables attached, it finally did turn over and start and has been starting good as new all day. Ignition switch maybe??? I don't have any other ideas. How hard are they to install?
  8. Got my Forester back from the dealer with its fresh block. I decided to go ahead and pay for a new belt and tensioner, plugs, cam seals and a tranny flush. The tensioner was close to $150? Anyway, I should be good to go now until 60k.
  9. No, it's a new block being installed by the dealer. I just want to know what else I should get replaced since it will be free labor.
  10. Since my 04 Forester is at the dealer for a new short block, I have instructed them to go ahead and replace the timing belt, tensioner, spark plugs and to do a tranny flush. The car has 25,000 miles on it. I'm only paying for parts, not labor. Is there anything else I should tell them to replace at this time?
  11. Well the dealer's diagnosis was piston slap. They said the tolerance was such that I will be getting a new short block in a week! Didn't even have to argue. Kinda nice.
  12. It's going back to the dealer tomorrow. I'll let you all know what the prognosis is.
  13. Is it supposed to go completely away when the motor warms up? Mine does not. It does get much quieter, but I can still hear the tick-tick-tick. What should I do? Oh, it's the 04 Forester that has it. Only 24,000 miles too.
  14. Does it stop if you put it in neutral? If so, many subies have this "shake". I'm not sure if anyone has figured out why.
  15. Looking at a 2004 Imprezza sport wagon with an automatic tranny and 24,000 miles and nice condition. What would be a fair price for this car?
  16. Water does cool better than anti-freeze. Use the minimal amount of anti-freeze needed in your area to keep the water from freezing. Usually this is a 50-50 mixture or slightly more water than anti-freeze. Warm weather areas may be able to get away with an 80-20 mixture.
  17. I have found the OE sensors to be competitively priced to the aftermarket ones. I just replaced my cam sensor.
  18. What Imdew said......idle, in park with the motor hot and use the hot marks on the dipstick.
  19. That may be your throwout bearing, part of the clutch assembly.
  20. Buy the cheapest tire you can buy. Very little difference between a name brand tire and a private brand tire. As a matter of fact, the private brand tires are usually made by name brand manufacturers. I was in the business for years.
  21. The car is not for sale anymore. Who snuck in and bought it?
  22. Is it safe to put a fuse in the FWD holder in the engine compartment and just run in FWD all the time? Wouldn't this save gas in the summers? Oh, I have a 1995 Legacy. Thanks.
