  1. How's the beasty coming along?! What year is that particular? Good Luck/Skill, #89 1989 Subaru JUSTY RS 4WD 134, xxx miles JUSTY in 'progress' :-\ pics: http://tinyurl.com/3y9h42
  2. Horizontally Mounted Radiator! How good is that!?! Cheers, #89 1989 Subaru JUSTY RS 4WD 127, 669 miles :-\ JUSTY in 'progress' pics: http://tinyurl.com/3y9h42
  3. Thats ****ing hilarious. I think I'll give myself a raise tomorrow at work in front of the boss. Kanpai, #89 1989 Subaru JUSTY RS 4WD 127, 669 miles :-\ JUSTY in 'progress' pics: http://tinyurl.com/3y9h42
  4. Thanks folks...hold the phones... we have a winner! (OR actually, Loser - ...). Replaced the fuseable link/relay with a couple different functional 'handmade ones'... no luck! Popped open the plastic timing cover, sure enough belt torn almost through! (just enough for weak spark, I guess). Much Obliged again... #89 1989 Subaru JUSTY RS 4WD 127, 669 miles :-\ JUSTY in 'progress' pics: http://tinyurl.com/3y9h42
  5. What made you mention the timing belt? Was it the 'turning over but quietly' description? I am away from the car for another hour or so... will check it out in more detail... Thanks, #89 1989 Subaru JUSTY RS 4WD 127, 669 miles :-\ JUSTY in 'progress' pics: http://tinyurl.com/3y9h42
  6. Don't panic... yet. The hesitation at full throttle could be a number of things, some small... the Brat Hedz here will know for sure, but if you're on the lucky side of things, maybe even just a fuel filter. I'm going to vote optimistically, on the griding sound, vibration, even loose 4th gear... linkage bushings or related, maybe? Again - confirm with the Brat Pros first, there will be plenty of time to panic later. Good Luck and Skill, #89 1989 Subaru JUSTY RS 4WD 127, 669 miles :-\ JUSTY in 'progress' pics: http://tinyurl.com/3y9h42
  7. Aaaah ye-ah... "Eye of Thundera- give me sight beyond sight!" Or like the Scoobs in this area of the threads... "Ancient spirits of evil, transform this decayed form to Mumm-Ra, the Ever-Living!" Holy Cr*p... 14 years ago, we used to be kids!, #89 1989 Subaru JUSTY RS 4WD 127, 669 miles :-\ JUSTY in 'progress' pics: http://tinyurl.com/3y9h42
  8. Hmmm... Try to let us know what it turns out to be... I have a similar and it remains after swapping both CVs... I had even suspected motor mount(s) at one point. Let us know... 9. Check the structurals for safety (for example: fuel tank, shock towers, subframe mounting points, engine mount points, 'Flintstone brake' floors...). A can of POR-15 or even 'over the counter' 'rust converting catalyst' goes a long way to slow down any additional oxidation. Then... get a tetanus shot, drive it into the ground, sell the bumper! Have fun!, #89 1989 Subaru JUSTY RS 4WD 127, 669 miles :-\ JUSTY in 'progress' pics: http://tinyurl.com/3y9h42
  10. Hmmm... Shocks are t-i-r-e-d :-\ ... I think the battery shifted a tad... Thanks again, the crew is alert here I tell you... Kanpai, #89 1989 Subaru JUSTY RS 4WD 127, 669 miles :-\ JUSTY in 'progress' pics: http://tinyurl.com/3y9h42
  11. Awesome! A Blessing (and a Curse) from the Church Lady!:-p Shiny bumper to sweeten the deal, too! Kanpai, #89 1989 Subaru JUSTY RS 4WD 127, 669 miles :-\ JUSTY in 'progress' pics: http://tinyurl.com/3y9h42
  12. 30 mph into a traffic circle... all's going hunkey dorey ... stall , check engine light... coast to side of the road... no start . Getting fuel to carb, turning over (although quietish-ly!?), visible spark, battery charged full... ??? Everything looks alright on the outside of the motor... checked vac and electrical connections... all looks OK, except noticed one of the 'fusible link relays' (small faded yellow plastic with see-through top - 1 of 2 with 3rd slot between the 2 empty - what are these?!), near brake reservoir was blown... maybe unrelated? Ideas ? ! ? Ergghhh; thanks #89 1989 Subaru JUSTY RS 4WD 127, 669 miles :-\ JUSTY in 'progress' pics: http://tinyurl.com/3y9h42
  13. Hmmm... Have been trying some plus size options (successfully). Am now (depending on the weather) swapping between 15"s - Sumitomo 195/50/15 OR Blizzack 195/60/15 on steelies Took a little doing, but definitely worth the increased traction/handling. Cheers, #89 1989 Subaru JUSTY RS 4WD 127, 313 miles
  14. Just finished removing some oxidation/rust-proofing; refurbing/color changing a set of 15" steelies with 85% Blizzacks on 'em. (Was a lucky score $100 for full 4 set with tires! off a New Mini that some NAPA dude let the lease out on!). It doesn't seem to snow much in NY State anymore , so haven't been able to 'really' try this set up yet... 4 inches of snow, then slush, then ice felt like getting the groceries on a hot July day. Call me when you IF you DO get stuck, I'll pull ya out :-p . Just(y) kidding :-p . Respectfully, #89 1989 Subaru JUSTY RS 4WD 126, 711 miles
  15. Doug, Thanks for taking the time to respond. Rockford was one of the places I was looking into - in Illinois. I worry as the only feedback on stake-in replacements in general (web and in person) I've heard is square peg in a round hole type reactions... Will have to make a determination in a few days so will try to post an update here. In the meantime, if anyone has tried the staked-in replacements or any opinionsregarding such (even changing from a 2 piece shaft to a one piece) I'm still open to ideas. Kanpai, #89 1989 Subaru JUSTY RS 4WD 126, 711 miles
  16. GL Loyale, Next time your East Coast/NY message me, I owe you a drink hydrating or otherwise:drunk: ... depending on what other advice comes up on this thread, I may or may not get the driveshaft bits from them still nervous about a 100k plus mile unit ---- but both links were super helpful for other searches I've been carrying out!! Much Obliged!, #89 1989 Subaru JUSTY RS 4WD 126, 711 miles
  17. This is a funny thread. Really funny. My vehicle history as far as production dates have been '84 non-SOOB, '73 non-SOOB, '72 non-SOOB, '85 GL Hatch FWD, '91 non-SOOB, '89 JUSTY RS 4WD. Hard to say on new vs. old, they were/are all cruddy and underpowered, while having their loveable 'nuances'. Really funny thread. Respectfully, #89 1989 Subaru JUSTY RS 4WD 126, 711 miles
  18. I'm your neighbor in LI (just noticed that!... Hey wasn't that you who cut me off in the HOV, the other day!! ) Who was 'your boy' on that job... if he was good maybe he's still in business? I'll bring your receipt in . Respectfully, #89 1989 Subaru JUSTY RS 4WD 126, 011 miles
  19. Hmmm... (appreciate the reply, Nip)... How long ago? Any vibrations, sounds just yet? So far the local specialty shops are scratching their... heads :-\ and talking about 'making' other applications fit ... Anyone have a favorite rebuilder - I've found one Cali option, 1 Tejas, so far... , #89 1989 Subaru JUSTY 126, 711 miles
  20. What's with stolen cars in the NW??? Put a pic up here... Also take out a couple local ads with a big REWARD offer... The reward depends on the leads... Best Luck to you, #89 1989 Subau JUSTY RS 4WD 126, 711 miles
  21. :-\ Any/all wisdom on the below (longish-questions at bottom! ) would be appreciated!!! 1. Drive the other day became buzzy (humming from undercarriage). 2. Upon close inspection, visible portions of the universal joints looked as though they were 'crumbling'! 3. Upon removal of the 2 part drive shaft, hanger/center support bearing was observed to be quite chewed up! Good News: Found New Center Support Bearings Bad News: As far as I can tell by my initial research and observation, the u joints were originally 'staked-in' to place (lip of some sort 'peened' to hold in place). AKA UNreplaceable. Found a couple of companies offering staked in replacement joints inexpensively, but upon consulting with several driveline shops, was advised against such as correct refitment is VERY difficult due need for machine shop quality groves to be cut into input area in ordr to maintain true center line. By not doing so, I am told that there will most likely be a definite vibration, related noise, and premature failure of the replacement joints. The only other option seems a professional rebuild or new junkyard shaft. Reputable rebuilds are looking in the $400 range for parts alone. Junkyard shaft has that whole mystery life expectancy issue :-\ . Has anyone had experience in this area of JUSTY? Any trick to making quality use of the staked-in replacement joint kits? Thanks alot team, #89 1989 Subaru JUSTY RS 4WD 126, 711 miles
  22. chip, One of the JUSTYhedz, 'Scoobaru' just tore down a carb in a seriously surgical way, diagrams, photos everything Chilton didn't bother with and more. I'm trying to find his username on these boards, will send it your way ASAP. Best Luck; Skill, #89 1989 Subaru JUSTY RS 4WD 126, 711 miles
  23. RTY, Beautiful Job on the blow-through!!!! You may have already posted on these inquiries... if so, a kick in the right direction thread-wise would be fantastic... There is ALOT of info in the forums... I get disoriented sometimes! 1) What preps, if ANY, to the carb.... or just relying on the full seal of the box?? 2)Did you wind up using a Malpassi regulator or some such to adjust fuel pressure under boost? 3)What did you wind up doing for fuel return line? Hats off to you; Respectfully, #89 1989 Subaru JUSTY RS 4WD 122, 892 miles
  24. NC (1 lifted, 1 low, 1 stock), Well done! Appreciate you sharing your experience(s) with this project. I have secret hots for those 'H alloys'... I tried my best to track them down when I was running a GL hatch, w/ no luck. Keep up the great work. Sincerely, #89 1989 Subaru JUSTY RS 4WD 121, 021 miles
