  1. Arrgh guys. I personally love the Indians up here. We have mostly Sioux and Chippewa depending upon which part of the State you're at. i spent two summer working construction on reservations. Those were good times. Oddly enough, even though i'm caucasian ( Norwegian and German with some other crap thrown in there...guess I'm a Mutt) I have been called a slightly derrogatory term for mexicans a few times. Apparently I tan up well. Oh and the Cheech moustache probably didn't help that either.
  2. I'm thinking that a set of racing stripes down the middle of the hood would be good. Two black fat ones:headbang:
  3. Nipper I hear ya man. You guys have more people living in Long Island than we do in the whole friggin State! Infact when I visit other States and they find out I'ma Nor Dakoootan, they ask about the Indians. Yes, we still have them I tell them. In fact, a group attacked the Fort the other day....and on it goes until they figure it out.
  4. Holy smokes! My neighbor would kill to have mine look that good. She called the cops about mine. She can't squawk now cause i got her plates and tabs. She also sees me working on it and that helps as opposed to just it sitting there.
  5. Ahhhhh That's how yu do it. I learned all my physics from watching Wylie E. Coyote. Now I can unstick my flux capacitor!!!
  6. Is that roll of T.P. on the floor for the dog? No having a shop manual in the latrine for reading material, that's priceless
  7. My 81 gl wagon has the fuel pump, driver's side on firewall. Extremely accessible. I checking for my replacement, psi for these 3-5. Only one pigtail connection, 1 inlet, 1 outlet, rubber lines. Suuuper easy install.
  8. Subies aren't the only ones that are freaks (used affectionately). I also own an Opel GT (actually 2 1/1 of them). I also belong to their message board. That are just as much a bunch of fanatics as we are here. You just can't do as much with one as you can with a Soobie. These sites are invaluable to the novice, the weekend knuckle buster, etc. I raise my mug in toast to all who have graced us here with their opinions, advice, questions, and humor:clap:
  9. Ahh. I work in Bismarck! I know the place. I don't go there often though. Actually, I think they closed. Park by the river huh. two choices. If you heard animal sounds at night it was Sertoma (zoo there). If you had to pay, it was Gen. Sibly.
  10. The car sat for ten years. Got her running and put in 5 gal of gas. The dash guage shows empty and the idiot light is on. I'm thinking the float is stuck in the tank? Anyone ever done this? 81 wagon 1.8 4wd
  11. Thanks campers. Me thinks I'll go with the LUK. It comes with everything minus the flywheel. None come with that. I've never done a clutch so I think I'll end up at the tranny shop. They told me about $350.00 for the whole job. That doesn't include the parts. They aslo re-do the flywheel too. Apparently, this is almost a must.
  12. I need a clutch kit. Did some checking. This is what's available but I'd appreciate feedback on these. Fur an '81 Wagon 4wd Exedy Luk Perfection Fenco/Fenwick
  13. yUP. We used the 'ol big bad syringes to irrigate and clean out ears. I used to be a Medic in the Guard.
  14. You know, If'n I would have picked up the baster at an autoparts tore, I probably would have paid like $8.00 and they would have given it fancy name. So that's what cooking spiders smells like. anyone remember frying ants on the sidewalk with a magnifying glass or did I just date myself?
  15. Ther was hootin at my place last night. My Soob has'nt been run for about 10 years. I had some ignition probs that were figured out thanks to you guys. Especially the fusible link one. The gas tank was totally drained to get out the nasty stuff. The line from the tank to the filter was blown clean with an air compressor. I had to see if the dang thing would run. I picked up a plastic turkey baster and filled it with with gas. Suirted it into the feed side of the filter(attached was small chunk of fuel line) until I saw it fill the 2nd filter. Then I hooked up a long chunk of fuel line into a 5 gal gas can. The other end went into the feed side of 1st filter. Turned the key and less than 5 secs she was running!!!! After about a minute though there was a bit of smoke and a burnt smell wafting out from under the engine. I shut her down. Tonight I pull the plate to see what's up. We're close:banana:
  16. SCORE!!!!! yes. Follow the positive lead off the battery. Look for the funky little piece with the cloth wire covering. It is only about 2-3 inches long. Less than a foot off the terminal. Pics below. I tried to get the wire connector out. No such luck. I cut a piece of new fusible link wire ( Napa, sppol for less thank $ 6.00) and crimped it in there. Tried the key and all the dash lights lit up and the engine cranked. I ran some fuel line right from the pump to a gas can. Won't fire. Then had wife turn key while I put my hand over the fuel filter inlet. Slight suction. Looks like I might have to elevate the can to get the pump primed? If it runs then I'll reconnect it to the gas tank. Good Plan?
  17. No such luck on the little black box. I have two boxes. One is the voltage regulator, The other one I pulled had some goofey wording on the cover like Matsubsta or something. I took the three little srews off the back of that. I found what looks like two little transistor towers in there. Got Plan B?
  18. oops. I didn't read close enough. fusible link is in the alt line to batt?
  19. Arrgh. I finally got the gas tank drained and the line cleaned. New fuel pump, so ready to fire it up. Cranked the engine. Noticed smoke from the engine bay. I quick check and I saw the wires to the alt were not hooked up. i had taken them off because I had to move the alt to gain access to something. O.k. alt wires reinstalled and turn the key....nothing and I mean nothing. Not even lights to the dash. Anyone got a clue as to where to start? An order would be good. See, even those little things you forget can get you. Tis an 81 wagon 4wd
  20. Thanks Jerry. i couldn't remember you Forum name. I'll peek under there again and look for the crossmember.
  21. Everclear is also still legal up here in Nordakota. used also to produce what we call 'Red-Eye". This substance is consumed at a gazillion small-town weddings. Tis nasty in my opinion because it is flavored cherry which I loathe. It is also an accelerant. It was used to melt down ( and I mean all the way to the ground) a playground complex. Flippin vandals. It was sad but cool at the same time. It was a $40,000 complex.
  22. '81 GL Wagon 4wd Manual tranny. I got this bull bar from a member. It suuposedly fits on my rig. Problem is I can't figure out where to attach the lower portion. See photograph #2. Wher it would slide up, all there is is some thin sheet metal. Also see photograph#2. Do I have the wrong bar or what am i missing? yeah I know the Soob looks rough. It is a work in progress. Any and all help appreciated. Photos of yours would be super.
