  1. this isn't mine but thought i'd throw it up. http://www.bismanonline.com/getListing.php?tcat=&cat=&p=1&a=420139
  2. here is an example of the mad max repair method I'm doing on my truck. 1. The metal i used is extra roof flashing. Galvanized!!! 2. Cut out bad rusted metal. 3. Spray with rust inhibitor or really good primer. 4. Attach metal to body and hold in place with clamps or vise-grips. 5. Drill holes. 6. Attach poprivets. rivet gun from loca chain hardware store (Menards up here). 7. Optional now: Apply bondo over repair job. Attach flexible fender flare or spray on bed liner. 8. Wallah!!
  3. i will be doing a clutch replacement in my 81 gl wagon 4wd 1.8. i understand that you should resurface the flywheel when doing this. My thoughts are...it isn't that muchmore to actually replace the flywheel. I only found two out there...Sachs and Standard brands. I'm sure the stealer OEM one is well over a C-note. What is best for me? No hard hill driving as in hill climbing etc. Thoughts?
  4. I have noticed that the quality of the craftsman line has gone down hill. others I have talked to have echoed this as well. I recommed the PB Blaster then whack it a couple of times with a hammer and let it sit. I also use a 12volt impact gun with an adapter alot. They are meant for lug nuts but I use for alot of stuff. Plug in to cig lighter an wallah! Ther are two diff styles and both run about 50.00 max on evilbay. One style spins up to max rpms then engages the clutch. This style can break your wirst if you do it with non-dominant hand, one-handed and too many margueritas. The other spins almost immediately. Both come in nice little ballistic plastic carrying cases. I never go anywhere without them.
  5. Busted. I grew up with the original series. Nothing else compares. I just like the show. am not a Trekkie
  6. 1st one is the dilithium storage access cover. 2nd is photon torpedo switch, 3rd is faser array switch, and fourth is to go into stealth mode. how'd this thing ever pass inspection before leaving spacedock:lol:
  7. BTW...That is probably 1/2 of all the Brats left in North Dakota right there. You gomers out there in Colorado and Washington have em all.
  8. beat up???? I see POTENTIAL there. They used the on a farm so i suspect that got used and abused some. I know, I saw that winch and .....schwing!!! The black one in the field(that I couldn't get close to, seemed to be in the best shape.
  9. hey campers. I had driven past these guys' farm a few times and noticed some soobies in the pasture. This time i stopped on the road and was going to snap some photos. The dog in the yard started to bark and a lady popped her head out of the Quonset. I asked if i could snap some photos and she said "sure". then she told me there were a bunch more over by the other building. You couldn't see these from the road. She said they were all in various states of disrepair except a couple just were parked. "Pinkie" the Brat with pink wheels she said thought just had bad wheel bearings. Not wanting to push anything, I just snapped some photos of the close ones. The ones out in the field will have to wait for closer pics as the cows and bulls seemed to want a piece of me. I don't know diddly about Brats but drool away you body shop folks.
  10. negative. haven't used it yet. Was discussing this with my cohort on a road trip yesterday. He said his Dad used some stuff called "Rust Bomb" out on the farm. Got me thinking. i did a search and appeared to come up with the ultimate "rust busting chemical list". It also lists who makes the stuff. Better hurry on the Yield stuff. factory website says they are discontinuing. http://www.arb.ca.gov/consprod/regact/cpwg2006/40.pdf as you can see , it is from 2006
  11. Just my 2 cents worth. WD-40 is an aftershave. some guys spray their fishing lures with it and swear it attracts more fish.:-\ PB Blaster is by far the best stuff I have ever used for loosening up old rusty stuff. Just my opinion.
  12. Chef. I started out as 91B medic. I am now a Food Service Advisor for about 12 units in the Army Guard. i got a chance to work closely with your Air Guard buddies fighting the flood up here this spring. Great bunch over at the 119th Air Wing. MSG ( the boy appropriately calls me "MasaSarg").
  13. Chef Tim. I live in ND. Are you a 92G by chance? here's directions on getting there. Coming from East I-90 out of rapid: Take the Box Elder exit South. Turn right on Radar Hill Road. Go up the hill past the Water Tower. Turn left on 229th. It turns to gravel now. Keep heading down road (it starts to look like a Prairie Trail) turn left on Abdereen court. The address is like 2448. If you see the Geodome home, that's it. Bob is dead ringer for Pete Seger if you know what he looks like.
  14. I got referenced this guy from a salvage yard. His name is Bob Bailey. He is a certified mechanic that works almost exclusively with Soobies out of his house. He has a Quonset with a lift. Bob hooked me up with a fender and a rear disc setup for my '81 Wagon. I aske dif i could drop his name and he said most definetly. He lives in the country about 6 miles south of Box Elder which is right next to Rapid City. he has about 6 donor rigs out there. His number (also approved for release) is 605-923-6569. I invited him to join the group. He sounded most interested. BTW Brat folks. he has a Turbo Brat that is in pristine condition for sale. I don't need another Soob right now. Has t-tops and all. Unfazed graphics etc. etc.
  15. OK I'll join the fray!! This is only secondhand info. A good friend of mine (who passed away from cancer) used to run a motor pool in the Marines. He said when they switched to seafoam in the military rigs, the engines saw a marked increase in their internal cleanliness. I'm not sure if this was oil added or fuel though.
  16. From my neck of the woods. this is why we have major flooding going on this year North Dakota
  17. I pulled a bonehead and got this thinking it would work in my 81. No dice. Different arrangement of dials. Soooooo If'n you need one let me know. Just pick up the shipping and it's yours. Pics will post tomorrow. Oh yeah, plenty of wire attached on the back to splice up to yours.
  18. I'm sure some of you out there have had some weird experiences with your rig. I'll share one i had. My Soob has been sitting in the driveway as it needs a clutch and some other stuff. hadn't worked on it for a few months. I decided to hit it with the sander as I'm doing some body work. The second I hit the spot I was going to work on, the motherload of Yellowjackets came out of the gap between the fron and rear doors. I got tagged by one right below the eye. hurt like a mother...... After spraying the gap with wasp killer, I opened the door to find the little kamikazees had built a nest there!!!
  19. OK thanks all. I ordered it from 1stSubaru. I think they are in either Jersey or CT. Good price but they kinda sting ya on shipping. Small box then stuck in a huge one.
  20. three angles. the break is at yellow arrow BTW ea81 froma 81 gl wagon
  21. Hey guys. I just received a new blower resistor in the mail. There is some grey schtuff on the coils that I assume is normal. Question is, is this supposed to be continuous? There is a break in the grey schtuff. Do I need to send it back?
  22. 1981 Gl wagon 1.8 4wd manual. Trying to get it going. Need to replace fuel filter closest to carb. Looking online at auto parts stores, they list both one with and without the "vapor diverter". Which one do i need? Don't ask about the old one:mad: BTW what is the purpose of a vapor diverter?
  23. Pulled the blower motor. Darn thing must have gotten of kilter. The white plastic wheel had rubbed against the housing. Cleaned and scrubbed it up. Lubricated it, and she whirls like a champ. However, it only runs on high. Arrrgh. I don't want to dive into that resistor block thingy.
