  1. Hopefully it will be in the same shape as the rest of the car with little rust at all. (yea, i know, keep dreaming)
  2. Ok, what can i expect to pay for a front 02 sensor from subidoo? Is it somewhere i can get at without a lift? If it was the problem, will the computer reset the light or does it need to be done manually? Since i only paid $1900 for the car and don't have monthly payments, i guess i can afford to fix it.
  3. You seem to be reading something i didn't write. I'm looking for options and you seem to be one of the better (best?) informed person(s) on this board. Since I'm not financially independent (hence the '97 subie) i would like to fix the problem with the smallest outlay of cash possible. The anti-fouler would only be done if i needed to pass inspection so i had more time to make my car happy again. Tell me the correct way to accomplish this and I'll listen. My wallet will then tell me if or when get the job done.
  4. Almost 180,000 on it. runs fine but seems to idle a little rougher than it used to. It needs an inspection in March and the check engine lite will make it fail. Does the anti-fouler trick make the light go out?
  5. Light came on so i went to Autozone for a reading. Code came back P0420, catalyst efficiency below threshold - bank 1 possible causes: 1. rich a/f ratio 2. ignition system malfunction 3. faulty catalytic converter. Is there anything i can check or do before i take it to the shop for their opinion? It's a 97 legacy
  6. Crap, put this in older cars instead of newer. It's a 1997 legacy. i'll repost it there.

  8. I was testing my switch in the company parking lot last snow. The switch killed the ABS but didn't turn it back on. i had to turn the car off and restart it to enable the ABS.
  9. Next time you are in eastern PA during/after a good snow, look me up and i'll let you take her for a spin (slide) and you can show me how to work the system. No sarcasm, just want to see if it's really me and not the car. I've always managed to stop all the cars i've ever owned while living in North Jersey. Used to have a job at Hidden Valley ski area and never had a problem getting there or home in any storm.
  10. Knowing how the system works in my car, this operator has a switch to kill the ABS. I'd expect the car that sponsered the US Ski team to atleast be able to stop in the snow. My Fiat X19 stopped better in the snow than my 97 Legacy when the abs kicks in.
  11. Not to bring a dead thread back to life but... if i were to add a switch to turn the abs on and off, what gauge wire would i need to use? Say i put some blade connectors in the fuse slots, run the wire thru an in-line fuse to a switch. Since its a 20 amp fuse, how heavy a gauge wire is needed?
  12. Well, almost didn't come to a stop at a traffic light this morning. Going about 10 mph in slush. Started to brake in plenty of time but the abs kicked in anyway. didn't slide, didn't slow, so i put it in neutral, pulled up the ebrake and almost became very familiar with the rear end of an older subbie wagon. came within 5 feet of his (her?) bumper before coming to a complete halt. I read the other thread and it looks like i'll be going the blown fuse 2 wires to a switch route to kill the ABS when needed. Don't see how snow tires would make any difference (i didn't slide) if the brake fairy won't stop pushing back on my pedal.
  13. I feel there is know way ABS would do better then i could manually. it's not that the car slides when ABS kicks on, it just feels like the car is fighting my wish to stop. my guess is i travel 3 to 4 times as far as i would by braking without it.
  14. Had our first small snow fall and freeze. Had my first almost slide thru a traffic light when the ABS kicked in. Was only going about 10 MPH when I hit a patch of slush that would have been a non-event without ABS. Love the car (97 Legacy) hate it's ABS.
  15. I feel like I'm watching late night TV. Is one of you Billy Mays?
  16. Anyone have any experience with this stuff? the bottle says add 1/2 a can to the trans which shouldn't overfill it. Do you just leave it in or do a flush after a certain amount of time? i have a 97 legacy, don't know if it's ever had the fluid changed.
  17. Since the car is a 97 i was thinking of replacing some or most of the bulbs that are blackened from age. Anyone know what the larger lamps illuminate and what the small ones light? Looks like the large ones are for general illlumination. Also what happens if i don't re-use the bulb covers on the larger bulbs?
  18. thx, thats good to know. now if there was a way to adjust my fuel gauge. it drops quicker than the one on my old GL which was dead on. when i'ts near empty i still have at least 5 gals. in the tank. guess i'll let it drop lower and see what happens.
