  1. Nevermind, I apparantly didn't put enough in. I went by the site glass instead and added refridgerant until I didn't see any more bubbles. Hopefully the stop leak crap worked.
  2. So I noticed that my AC compressor wasn't coming on any more. That being the case, I did the R134a conversion and added a can of stop leak crap. After doing so, the compressor began to kick on again. I then added more regular R134a refridgerant until the guage needle got into the blue (full) zone. It only took a partial can. The problem is it's not blowing cold air. Does anyone know why this might be? Do I need to add more refridgerant until it gets into the yellow (alert zone)? Also, I never bothered to drain the system of the old R12 refridgerant. Could it be that having the 2 mixed is causing the issue? Or, if R134a really sucks this bad I'll just buy some R12. However, I'd rather not go this route due to the high cost of this refridgerant. I know that the general consensus is not to do the conversion because it ruins the compressor. However, If I'd have gone to the auto repair shop I'd have just gotten the run around and/or be out a few thousand bucks. Either way it was a no win situation.
  3. I apologize that I didn't state specifically where the leak is. It's behind the gas tank next to the rear passenger wheel. Is this what you're referring to regarding the fill pipe?If so, I'll try your suggestion and post back. Thanks
  4. I have a gas leak in my Legacy as shown in the picture in the below link. Does anyone know how hard this will be to fix? I've circled the gas drips in the picture. http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=check_download&ufid=TzY2Q3R6aytKV09Ga1E9PQ&key=41858a9f254abd346917f5254d764ac7ea821deb&bid=VGllQmtTd0lVVGwzZUE9PQ
  5. Well the check engine light is on constantly now and the car is extremely bad when it's cold. So bad it will stall and not move when you hit the gas . I found the hard to get to connectors and was able to pull a code of 21 (2 long flashes followed by 1 short one). If I looked it up correctly that's "Coolant temperature sensor or circuit". I don't see how that could be causing a misfire. Normally you can hear vacuum leaks so I've ruled that out.
  6. Unfortunately replacing the ignitor didn't help. The car is still missing on and off. Sometimes it'll be fine, other times it will miss.
  7. The car is still missing on and off and idles rough after sitting in my garage for a few weeks while I replaced the starter. Thanks for the suggestion on the ignitor. I'll try it and post back. Is this what you're talking about?
  8. I just pulled a malfunctioning Napa starter motor and solenoid out of my 91 Legacy. It was getting to the point where I'd have to tap on it to get it to start once out of every 5 starts. I'm wondering if it's wise to stay away from Napa starters and go OEM? I have no idea the age of the starter but it could be almost new. It might be under warranty but I don't want to put a new one in there if it'll just do the same thing. Thanks
  9. I didn't realize it last night but after driving it today the car is no longer misfiring while the gas peddle is engaged. However, it's still idling extremely rough and shaking. Regarding the cap and rotor: when I unplug each lead from the distributer one at a time, I can see the spark coming from each terminal. So that tells me it's fine but I could be wrong. I have not replaced the O2 sensor.
  10. This 91 Legacy of mine just doesn't like me as it's done nothing but break and develop problems since I've owned it. Regardless, I'm having a misfiring priblem. I've replaced all ignition cables going from the distributer to the spark plugs. I've also replaced the #1 and #2 spark plugs themselves. Yet, the problem continues. It acts like it's the #1 cylindar isn't firing. If I unplug #2 from the distributer it evens out a bit and if I unplug #1 it seems to make no difference. There is a check engine light but I can't plull the codes. The connectors that the guide on this site asks me to plug in don't exist on my car or are hidden behind such a massive cluster of wires I can't get to them. Does anyone know what the problem might be? Fuel injector perhaps? Thanks in advance.
  11. Thanks very much for the replies. They're appreciated. I'll look into a hardware store for those bolts.
  12. This is a 91 and I'm confused. Are you saying it goes like the attached picture? Also, I snapped one of the damn bolts that screws into the houseing and water pump. Where is the easiest place to find another one? Thanks
  13. I've successfully replaced my water pump in my 91 legacy and the car runs fine. But there's a leak between where the thermostat housing meets the water pump. I can't figure out why. Does anyone know what the problem might be? I put the gasket intside the water pump first, put the thermostat over that then attached the thermostat housing.
  14. A pole did it. Thanks for putting the idea in my head. it was effortless with a metal pole from an old fence. Thanks!
  15. I have bent a tourque wrench and a 3/4 in wrench trying to get this thing off. I'm positive I'm going the right way (counter clockwise facing toward the back of the car).
  16. I'm definately going the right way. Pushing on the socket away from the driver's side and toward the passenger side. The threads didn't look rusty. I don't know what the damn deal is here.
  17. So I replaced my water pump and managed to forget to put the center timing belt cover back on before putting the dam crank shaft pulley back on. Even though I didn't excessively tighten the bolt when I put it back on, it won't come off. The pulley needs to come off again so the cover can go behind it. My question is what machine or magical tool can I use to get this damn bolt out? My previous method of getting it off hasn't worked. I tried putting a wrench around a socket to get leverage. I've pounded on it and jumped up and down on it with my 175 lbs of body weight and it won't loosen. Please help :-(
  18. Thanks for the reply. I got it. I just wedged a small wrench though the pulley into the whole for the camshaft sensor. That stopped it from moving. I then used my big socket and stuck the handle through the loop end of a 3/4 inch wrench to get the leverage and hight I needed to force the bolt off.
  19. I can't get the bolt loose for the left camshaft sprocket. Is it lefty loosey righty tighty? The damn thing won't budge and I've pounded on it. Any thoughts?
  20. Do you have to remove some of the pulleys to get the center timing cover off? It looks like you do but I just wanted to make sure.
  21. Thanks for the response. I'll take the cover off and inspect the condition of the timing belt and attempt to replace the pump.
  22. My 91 Legacy has sprung a colant leak. Before the leak, there were strange scraping noises coming from the engine. I'm wondering if anyone can tell from the picture where the leak is coming from. If this is something serious and will require a lot of time/money to fix, I may just sell this car as is or part it out. Send me a PM if interested.
  23. I'm not sure about the history but the car is rough and has 225k. At one point the timing belt skipped a few teeth but has since been replaced. I'll look into the PCV valve and head gasket. Thanks for the response.
  24. I have a 91 Legacy that's losing about a quart of oil every two weeks and a substantial amount of coolant every so often. However, there are no visible leaks and no stains on the driveway. My suspicion is head gaskets and possibly the oil pump. Just wondering if it could be something more obvious. Thanks in advance.
