Its bout that time...
xt6_4_life replied to xt6_4_life's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Here's all the pics of wire harnesses and their units. Everything looks to be in good shape http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewPicture&friendID=259488879&albumId=987498 -
I'm pretty sure that after cleaning the valve and the connectors, i think my IAC is shot. Does anybody have an extra one for an xt6 they'd be willing to part with? . Resources here are far and scarce around here. I already reset the ecu and the first day of driving it was fine. the next day i went out and fired it up and cel light came on and car died. i checked codes again and sure enough code 24. I should have money in the next couple days. Is it a good idea to put in a used IAC?? I think so long as it is still functioning properly it would work for the time. btw... thnx for everybodys help with input on my mustang. It now runs (a lil rough around the edges, but hey it moves:banana: )

Painting your Old Mess
xt6_4_life replied to hardtail_pride's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Good luck with the paint job. What exactly is wet sanding? I need to find myself a garage so i can get my 6 painted too. Then to draw attention away from possible "miss" spots im gonna lay down some custom design vinyls. -
Maybe a little timing advice...

I've come so close yet so far. I'm unsure of what exactly this sproket is and the worse part of it is it got spun so now it is off. i cant find any marks to line it up to so im a bit confused. Im pretty sure that this particular sproket is the one that controls the disty. click on the link below cause im done with fighting trying to get a stupid picture to upload. On the lighter note the cam and crank are in sync right now. i just need to figure out which way to turn "the mystery sproket" and where the alignment marks are.... http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewPicture&friendID=259488879&albumId=984402 -

Sorry my hands have been tied up a little with my 6 being on the fritz.... Today is an awesome day for weather so i decided to let the soob be for a change and work on the mustang. It shouldnt take me all that long and it should be back up and running. Thanks for all the help. -
heres a thread that explains what is going on. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=84476 since this thread ive done the following: Cleaned MAF Cleaned IAC Checked the connectors on CTS. (no green or corrosion what so ever) Checked the connectors on MAF, TPS, and IAC Replaced the O2 sensor Replaced PCV valve

Im going to go back thru the engine and check all the new parts i just installed. See what kind of condition they are in and just maybe i might find or fix the problem. Im also going to pull off the fuel pump and see how its doing.
-
I bought some electric component cleaner, as i was advised not to use carb cleaner, and cleaned and inspected the MAF. All the thin wires look to be intact. Made sure the wire harness was good and clean and had a solid connection. I've looked at some of the pictures, for what few that i have found. And im confused by this because apparently the TPS and IAC are the exact same thing. Which i know is not the case. Are they hooked together in any sort of way? Finally got some good weather so i'd hopefully like to get this done so i can get the 6 back on the road.

Its all right here. Not the greatest for me cause nobody understands the concept of cruisin at all. Are they soob fans as well?? Maybe at long last there will be some other ppl here who know a thing or two. Tell them congrats on getting the job too. I would work for newmont but after applying for them for a year straight, every 3 to 4 weeks, i havent even been called about an interview. I think they have no intentions of ever hiring me. Which mine will they be working at. Pheonix project? Twin Creeks??
-
1st question is: what is code 23? 2nd: how do you erase the stored codes. Just to toss this in there, how do you clean the IAC? How do you remove it? I think that this is the only thing left that is wrong with my car. Either that or replace the throttle cable.

[quote name= the sensor should be replaceable with the exhaust installed' date=' i've never removed exhaust to replace an O2 sensor on an XT6. [/quote] Thats what i was hoping for. The only problem being is the front axel gets right in my way. Thats good to know that it can be run without an o2 sensor. Ill go on ahead and throw the exhaust back on tomorrow morning. Im hoping i can get it back up and running soon. Thnx for the help -

Sorry if i said anything that offended anybody or anything. I just recently found out im bipolar. and it would always seem that when i get into that working mode thats when everybody needs me to do something for them all at the same time. I've done some calling around. Thus far with no success on a tap and die set. Living in such a small town and less than $15 to my name doesnt help much either... I cant find any place that sells a cat for my 6. Would it be a good idea to try to "put" the new o2 sensor in. (maybe with a little force). I know that if i do this it will have to be replaced. thats ok though. I wasnt planning on keeping the universal o2 sensor on there for very long. It wouldnt hurt to put on some new cats too. Or perhaps i just straightpipe it? I have a couple other ideas of things to try to see if i can still refix these old threads. -

:banghead: I sure wish i could find who originally did work on this car.... My buddy just helped me pull the entire exhaust out from under the car. got some heat to the o2 sensor and with a little impacting we got it out. Here's the kicker of it all. I cant put in a new o2 sensor. Whoever did this job previously crossthreaded the threads like a *********************. Is there such a thing as a universal cat? If so i could really use one right about now... I'm gona see if maybe we can use a tap and die set to fix the threads. -

One more Thing...... XT6 Problems
xt6_4_life replied to xoomer's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I would say just start off by looking at your wire connections on the alternator. if i could find what i did with my camera i would show you how bad mine look. turns out i was always getting a really weak charge. Finally decided to investigate and found that one of the plugs was incredibly coroded and the plastic connector itself was shattered.. -

I'm not questioning advice really, cause at this point im ready to try anything. But is that really a good idea with how much oil/grease and so on is on the underside of the car... Which part should i be torching? the sensor itself or trying to heat around it? -
So there i was today. First day of good weather in almost a week and a half. So I thought to myself, why not work on the 6. I'm still in the process of removing the bad o2 sensor. (I know for sure its bad now, due to the fact when i finally got so mad at it i cut the wire and beat it to a pulp with a hammer....) I know.... Not one of my "brighter ideas" So here's the problem I'm faced with. I've got the car jacked up and exhaust system dropped so I can reach the o2 sensor. I put everything i had in me tryin to break the darn thing loose with no success. Brains finally overcame brawn. So I took out my impact set and went to work on it. after 45 mins of impacting it hadn't budged an inch. Is there a possibility it could have reverse threads on it. Have i been tightening it all along and not know it?? Any ideas on how to remove this "thorn in my side of an o2 sensor" would be greatly appreciated.

Need Suggestion for a EA82 Cup Holder?
xt6_4_life replied to cole098's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Why must all great cars have no cup holders... It seems all the sporty cars i have owned never had a single cupholder.... I'll find a pic for you. Im in the process of gettin some cupholders for my 6. i'm gonna pull them out of a 97 chevy s-10. same concept of ford contour except they come out of the dash. Might help fill the void under/above the stereo for my 6. It might work for you too.. -
i know it might not belong here, but the other ford boards arent being any real help. (if it aint a 5.0 its not worth talkin about.... ) My timing slipped on a 86 mustang 2.3L 4 cyl. i dont know if you guys know a site that might help me or if you guys have owned one in the past. would kinda like to get it fixed for sentimental value. (first car ever owned. Learned to drive stick on) thanks

Hopefully its a simple fix for you. You ever seen a chevy s-10 tbone a wagon at 40 mph. I did. in fact i was the passenger yelling at the driver that there was a red light. He had plenty of time to stop, but just didn't. Poor wagon didn't stand much chance. totalled both vehicles. Makes you wonder what goes thru a drivers mind sometimes
