Where the speedo cable goes into the tranny, there is a seal down there that likes to go bad, causing tranny fluid to come up the speedo cable. Did you notice lots of grease on the cable? If you replace the seal and the cable isn't overly greasy, then the speedo unit might be alright. Otherwise you will have to take apart the dash to get at the other end of the cable and look for grease etc. Martin

Well right after the last post it just seemed to go together pretty easily... Handling seems a lot nicer and the discs are definitely solid stoppers.

Hey, I just picked up a new rear end for the discs and sway bar. I have the everything all hooked up except for the bar. Is there some sort of secret to doing this? Does it matter if the car is off the ground or not? So far I can only get the 2 middle bolts in but not the outsides. I know I am doing something wrong...

Well since it's just the push button 4wd you have, you can learn to take it out of 4wd for the sharp corners becasue you would probably be of the gas in a gear change anyways...

I am all into wrenching on my car and have pretty much done everything short of pulling the engine and a clutch job. So I was changing my right cv today and decided while I was at it to change out the rotors and pads up front as the rotors seemed rather old and weren't doing so well... plus I picked them up cheap... But now that I have everything put together, the pedal feel is a lot worse? Did air get in the system even without actually loosing any fluid? Or do they just have to seat a bit. I am planning on picking up some rear disc's tomorrow and then will end up bleeding the system, but I was just wondering why it is worse.

What sort/size filter did you use in the pcv system?

Those alloys looks really nice. I may have to find some and use the black (or rusty) rims for winter tires.

So it seems like there is still quite a lot of different opinions on it. I guess we will have to find out from those who added sway bars what the difference in feel is. Because with the different spring, I find the ride to be a bit harsher on bumps when there is no weight in the back. But when you are loaded up to where the old ones would sit on the rubber stops, you have far better handling. Also with the bit of extra height, it seems to have a bit more body roll in fast corners... good thing I picked up some RX seats!

So I know some of you have put accord springs in the rears, as have I... but I am thinking of adding some rear discs as well and may just get the whole rear set up that would have a sway bar. But my concern is that with the stiffer and higher rear end, that the sway bar may be more trouble. Anyone have this combination out there yet?

What is a good way to mod up the air intake for a ea82 carb'd motor? I have read lots on modding up the spfi's... can the spfi air intake be fitted to the carb engine, or is there just easier or better ways? Thanks.

you could rent a carpet cleaner and just wash everything. That will get rid of lots of the dirt and smell. Then see how things are looking from there.

I think only one of my horns is working, and it's quite sad at that. I think something happened to it when my car got hit by someone on the front left... but only today when I got royaly cut off did I realize that it is lagging. It just got dark out now and I have already been doing other stuff with my car all day, so I thought I would just ask here how do you get at the horn?

So as long as the strut lengths are just about the same, there shouldn't be a problem running them with gl springs just for that little bit of better ride.

I was just looking at another post with the various spring and strut ratios and was wondering if anyone is running their wagons with rx struts for that extra firmness. Is there any difference in strut length? It should handle nicer in corners. Are rx struts still available new, or are they harder to come by? Any other vehicles that would be running the same thing? Hahaha, success, I a managed to get something to work (my fubar methods)and everything is now installed, i would say it's around 2" higher than before. Haven't road tested it yet to see how she rides. bushbasher- i think i will have to check out your ride at some point just to see how sweet it is.

Hey, I am just in the process of installing accord springs but am having a heck of a time with my spring compressors. What's going wrong? Since there have been so many spring jobs lately, maybe someone noticed some hints that might make it go easier.

Well if there actually were any RX's around here, I might have some RX seats. Do you have any pictures of these "pimp" seats? What models had them? I would rather have sportier seats. I found someone who had put 2.5 RS seats in his Brat. The hard part is find good older model seats. Seems like lots of them fall apart on the drivers side. Maybe it's such a common problem that there is a fix...

I want to upgrade the seats in my 87 gl and know that the older style seats like from gl-10 will work. But will seats from an impreza work, or with minor modification. Does anyone know the rail/hole dimensions for various subaru seats. Are there any seats from other vehicles that have the same pattern? I also found some gl-10 seats but they are of the dark red colour, anyone know of any good seat covers?

Is the a difference in length between 2 and 4wd models?

So there was a bunch of talk about how you can replace the rear springs with front ones off of an older accord. What are the differences of front springs on various subarus? Any of them taller than others?

Yep, I'm from Victoria and there is tons of loyale's around and the newer gen stuff. I have seen 2 brats. One that was old, might have been a gen1 but probably a 2 and one that was in really good condition. I dont know if I will make it to WCSS6.
