I remember seeing a US Ski Team vehicle that was an '87 gl a few years back... how rare were they? Any special features besides the paint?
-
Hey, I finally saw I brat today (not many up here) while out walking the dog. It was parked in a driveway but it had Cali plates (no rust...) . Anyone from Cali on the board just recently move to BC?

The little red button makes it SUPER SUBIE!

Yeah, the springs work really well to keep the wipers stuck on the window at all speeds. I know they are easily available in Canada, so I'm sure you can find them in the US too. My window also seems to be really good at repelling water, even though I have never done anything with it, and at speeds you dont even need to wipers. -
yeah, it's pretty stock... the 87 gl has a super stock coil and just minor adjusting and it's gone through a few of them now. And the 90 loyale (stock) has gone through them them too... until i just wired it up to a button. Any ideas on what would be causing too much load on them... they dont really run too hot. I only noticed it wasn't coming on when I was up on the mountain driving around in the snow using 4 lo. That's when the temp started going up.
-
Well I think my fan temp switch went again (haven't checked the wiring yet as it's pouring rain)... has anyone else had problems with these these going on a regular basis... or is it just me??
-
damn 87 gl's just dont want to let them go then... I also assumed it would be easy like how your previous ones came out... but this one has been going through everything and no go. i think it's probably up to a size 15mm hex now, hahaha. I dont have any welding equipment, so that idea is out for me right now. If it is so stuck, it might just have to be left alone, I dont want the threads of the engine block coming out with the plug. I see why they write do not overtighten with the block heater instructions, hhaah.
-
This sucks, it's starting to get colder out and I still have no block heater. I haven't tried to chisel it yet, but I am afraid that it will do damaged to the threads or something if it is being this difficult and they my engine is useless. Anyone know of any inline block heater set ups?
-
yeah, the subaru ones that thread into the block are good... except that it seems impossible to remove the plug once the car is older!!

Hitachi-carbed '87 GL Wagon: all this gutless?
Martin replied to jdub's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i just had a vacuum leak and now with that hose plugged in, it has way more get up and go. almost as much as the spfi. -
Aurora Ignition Wires is what I am running right now... very nice wires. Aurora Ignition Wires

wow, so after like a hammer socket and air tools, it's just still just wanting to strip, so it looks like I am just down to using a chisel or something to get it out. Any experienced Subaru mechanics out there who deal with these regularly?

rear spring up grade 4 cheap!
Martin replied to rallyruss's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
well that sounds cool, some pics would be definitely good. how has it been handling so far?? -
yep, that's the one I was talking about... the one that will probably spill all of the coolant from the engine... if only the stupid thing wasn't stripping!! I hate those projects where one stupid bolt/nut wont co-operate!
-
so how hard is it to replace the cable? I'll take a look for a spring assist... it would be nice to get that super smooth feel. can you get any grease on the fork while it is assembled, or is it too hard to reach. so far tranny and engine drops are they only thing i haven't really tackled.
-
Thanks, so far I have only been able to find 10mm ones, (which looked too small) but now that I know it's a 14, I should be able to get one tomorrow.
-
Does anyone know what size hex fits in order to remove the plug where block heaters are installed? The stealership wants to charge about $40 to put it in, so I know I can find the proper size for less than that. Thanks.

What causes some clutches to be much stiffer than on other cars. my friends mom's 94 loyale feels smooth and easy like a hydraulic. Mine is a bit stiffer, and another friends 92 is just rock solid. Any ways to get better feel? It is adjusted pretty well because they start to engage early on.

Saw an RX on the road! Rare round these parts.

Rack is finished, with pix.
Martin replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
nice rack! -
gl's also have nicer seats, front map lights, rear cargo light, different steering wheel, use the cars colour on the lower part of the bumper... ummmm... come with rear speakers stock... yeah, that's all i can think of off the top of my head besides the other stuff that has been mentioned. yes d/r was an option.
