pulling my EA82T, what should I do?
well it does run just not very well sometimes. The only problem I have with tearing the shortblock down is I don't have the stinking tool to pull the wristpins! It is going to be a daily driver BUT the only places I'm going is to work (Wal-Mart about 10 minutes from my house if that) and to my girl's house (again another 10 minutes if that). So gas mileage can kiss my butt especially when its cheaper here then in Cali *neener neener neener:-p * Gas is only like 1.80 here I think.... I totally forgot about port matching but if I'm doing that, I'm going to get the Spider intake and the XT6 throttle body as well. Well sheesh if this is what its coming down to, I might as well start modding the crap out of it now....

pulling my EA82T, what should I do?
the only problem I have with the pistons is I don't have a tool to pull them out with. And if I did that, I might as well get the block machined and get oversized carbed pistons for it as well...... unless someone knows where I can get it machined here and get the tool to pull the pistons, I can't really tear it down any farther:(

how much fuel pressure should be?
for a carburated model, there should be anywhere from 3-8psi. Fuel injected models will be about 30-40 psi depending on the car. I hope that helps!

pulling my EA82T, what should I do?
So with all of the problems my EA82T is having, I have decided to pull it out and go through it a little like redoing the heads, adding cams, new oil pump, and new gaskets. I was wondering while I had the motor out and since I am doing some upgrades to it like the TD04 turbo swap and yes the cams, what else should I rebuild/replace/remove/clean/mess with? Here's a basic list of stuff I'm planning on doing to it while its out: full reseal kit including head gaskets TD04 turbo upgrade sicne mine is leaking oil from somewhere 260 street cams new oil pump I have a new waterpump on there right now go through the heads like valve stem seals new timing belts Ok so I might not have everything listed on there cause I know I'm missing something, which is where the rest of you guys come in. So just let me know what all I should do while I have it out. Mind you, this motor has 208k on it so I'm also thinking about buying a reconditioned block for 500 bucks off of ebay, 610 including heads but I'm not sure what gen they are.....

cooler subaru leone ,oil transmision to radiator
thats right, just go ahead and plug them on and it'll work. Like the other guys said, it doesn't matter which direction the ATF flows through the radiator.

First car owner + first Subaru owner says hello
I also would recommend the NGK plugs. They tend to be more fit for our cars. The Bosch I have found made more carbon build up and didn't efficently burn all of the fuel thus creating a carbon buildup in about 500 miles. They also foul very easily compared to the NGKs. Tools are tools, brands don't matter since they all break when you don't use them properly;) I tend to stick to Craftsman since they don't ask questions about how your broke it like the Crap-On people do and then not warranty it. Granted Craftsman is a bit more expensive compared to Harbor Freight, you get the "walk in, hey its broken, get a new one, walk out" type of warranty from them, no questions asked. 4wd is great in the snow, gravel, and even in the mud. It is also good on road IF you're not going around in corners but more like racing Hondas off the line since you have no tire slip. I love using it when I race, its the best!

Ya'll wont believe this...
my Brat with a 1600 in it ('78 mind you) with the stock carb that I rebuild with different rebuild kits plus the electronic disty upgrade I was getting 30mpg+ around town and going to my parents house about 20 miles away. I wonder what it would have gotten with my foot out of it..........

TDO4 update and bigger pugs
well I plan to go with an intercooler but lack of funds right now permit me from getting one along with a scoop (STi baby yeah!) Then when I go to custom fit the scoop into my hood, I'll be doing some "other" mods to the hood as well.... The reason for the non-intercooler for right now is because I also have to drive it back and forth to work and with it leaking oil really badly....yeah not a good idea:-\

TDO4 update and bigger pugs
Hmmm so could I run a TD04 at stock boost without an intercooler? I'm planning on doing this swap in the next couple weeks I hope since mine is leaking oil from somewhere...

Ya'll wont believe this...

Vintage owners roster? '71 through '81?
lemme see..... '79 4wd wagon, DL model but has everything a GL has but without the cool instrument cluster AC and the steering wheel. Has quad headlights, woodgrain dash, deluxe interior, had a JDM EA71 (gonna have a custom EA81 twin turbo and d/r 4-speed). Currently has no motor in it but does have the EA81 vented rotor swap, lowered 3", and has a new interior thanks to General Disorder:) '78 Brat, DL model. Has quad headlights, no AC, no special interior, no woodgrain dash. This is basically the DL model. I swapped the original EA71 with a JDM high compression EA71 which woke it right on up for power. Had it in RWD, lowered, did burnouts like crazy, electronic disty swap and custom exhaust.

ea81t MT conversion
you can use the EA81 d/r 4-speed from '80-'89? if you want a 4-speed which aren't good for highway use from what I've gathered. A lot of people have put the EA82 5-speed into their EA81 cars due to the gearing.

Whats a good price for a set of EA82t heads?
no they are different eras of the same heads. Basically Subaru went through and fgured out what would fail on the gen 1 heads and fixed it, thus creating the gen 2 heads. They did the same to the gen 2 heads to get the gen 3 heads. So ultimatly, the gen 3 heads are the best ones you can get. You can tell the difference by the EA82 on the heads. Gen 1 heads have just a plain "EA82" on them, the gen 2 heads have "EA82" on them (note the underline) and gen 3 heads have the "EA82" in a box. Hope this helps any!

83 turbo brake upgrade
they also fit on gen 1 cars as well! I did a complete swap on my '79 4wd wagon:D I made custom stabilizer bars to accomidate the EA81 control arms but the rotors and the calipers will bolt directly onto the stock EA71 knuckles

Rx is having some.....
I can check to see if the intake is leaking but I figure I'll pull the motor out and do a reseal on it since the pan gasket is a bit leaky. Also want to put those cams in from you Will once I get them;) and also put a new oilpump on there as well. I kinda want to make this nice even though my budget is tight. Hopefully I can get her goin good before the New Year. I'm also planning on upgrading the turbo to a TD04 as well. I can check the PCV to see but its got oil coming from the turbo area since the heat shields have oil sprayed on them. Now its time to go to bed since I just got home from a long night of work...Update will come about 5pm this afternoon I hope:D Yes it did have enough power to kick it sideways...it was FUN! I can't wait until its up to full potential!!

Rx is having some.....
problems now. I got the new waterpump on there and a new belt as well, put some antifreeze/water mix into it and fired it up. Well she smokes really badly due to either a blown headgasket or a cracked head, leaks oil from somewhere around the turbo but I haven't dug into it yet, and just needs some lovin. I got a post in the Marketplaceabout needing parts so take a look at it and help a guy out. So now its time to pull the engine and do some mods to it while its out. Grrr I hate having very little money and there's now 3-4" of snow on the ground. Even though the motor is havin issues, the tranny is still good!!!

EA82 waterpump replacement
yeah it ran ok....but the only problems now is that is smokes like a steamship due to either a blown headgasket or a cracked head, and the turbo is spitting oil from somewhere but I haven't dug into it yet. So now comes the reseal kit, TD04 turbo upgrade, cams from WJM and a few other mods while I have the engine out. Hopefully I can get most of the parts I need within the next month...:-\ Other then that it ran pretty good!

EA82 waterpump replacement
w00t!!! I did it in about an hour last night before I went to work. A lot easier then I was thinking it was going to be!!

Anyone ever build one of these?
and Sweets is BAD ARSE!!!! Its a fun little buggy! I wanna build one now that I got to ride in his. They're very enjoyable!
-
7,500rpm!!!
yeah cause you got a thing called a rev limiter. Helps keep the motor from over revving. It'll sounds like the rev is bouncing. Carbed cars usually don't have them like the older ones:)
-
EA82 waterpump replacement
yeah it is the long type waterpump with studs instead of bolts. So I got the fornts of either side of the timing belt covers off but now I need to remove the crank pulley so I can remove the center piece, then remove the old waterpump right? I got a new O-ring with the new pump along with the gasket but no hose and with only having like a $1.50 in pennies and I don't get paid for another few days, AND with 4" of snow on the ground......yeah you get the idea;)

Back from Moosens...
now all I have to do is drive to the east coast cause I wanna meet Paul as well. I can't remember if I have parts for him. Oh yeah I do! Rear axles from my Brat which are still in it........gotta wait until the beginning of the year Paul, Brat needs to roll around until them:D
