In addition to what some of these guys said, it also helps to search the right subforum. I often forget about the USRM. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=50400 (Incidentally, I found that thread by searching in the "Older Gen" subforum for "conversion" and "struts", because I knew you had to change the front struts to do the 5-lug. I get my stuff from the junkyard, Rockauto.com, and Napa. It's weird how many things you can buy new or refurbished from Napa. Fusible links should look pretty much like homemade twisted wire, but wrapped in colorful cloth. I think I have one in green cloth, and another in red cloth. The color corresponds with amp ratings. Your EA82 may have different colors. Does that help? Jacob

Heh, yeah. I got a little carried away last night with the hammer, but the thing has been up on jackstands for 2 weeks. If I can drive it for another 5k after hammering, that's good enough for me. I'll keep the pipe nipple thing in mind for next time, though. Jacob

I think it's the new bearings that were making it so hard. Anyway, I took off the hub and pounded it onto the axle with a hammer last night, so I think it's on. I don't remember what the run order was last time, so I can't even guess how it'll work out this weekend. Trust me, I've read up on the different methods here, and I'm so far none of them have worked. It's weird, because I've changed the axle on that side about 3 or so times with no issues. Jacob

I still haven't found a place yet, so the person whose couch I'm sleeping on would probably boot me onto the street if I tried that. I could get away with some ice cubes and a lighter though:) Jacob

I tried that method for about an hour last night. That thing is just not going through the hub. I even tried two different axles. The castle nut would snug up, then the whole axle assembly would start spinning. With the force needed to tighten the nut with one hand, I couldn't keep the axle from spinning with the other hand. I'm having a really hard time with my latest project, and since I just moved to PDX, I'm not sure who has what. I'm looking for the fancy tool that pulls the axle through the hub. Hammering, tightening the castle nut, and screwdrivers don't seem to work. I don't know what I'll do if the Brat isn't ready for the next rallyx, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Jacob

Thanks. I'm not in front of my Brat right now, but I don't really see how any of those suggestions will keep the stud from spinning in place. It's already in the hub, and I already tried the impact wrench. Jacob

I took off my knuckles to replace the bearings. Now that I'm trying to reassemble everything, I'm finding that when I put the tie rod end back in the steering knuckle and try to tighten down the little castle nut, the whole ball joint stud thing spins around in place! Any tips on how to tighten it down without breaking anything? I'm tempted to put pliers around the boot, but I'm pretty sure that will break something. Thanks. Jacob

Have you thought about a transmission swap? I'm sure someone will come in and correct me, but if the 60-75 mph acceleration is what you want, then a shorter 4th gear from a 5-speed might help. I know on my Brat with the 4-speed, 3rd is too short, and 4th is too long around that speed. Jacob

The bearings on my Brat are getting very loud, and since I just moved to the Portland area, I'm not sure where to go to get some around here. I'd like the sealed kind so there's less for someone to eff up when installing. Also, I hear that there's no reason to go to a car parts store for them. I live in the Beaverton/Hillsboro area, but I work downtown. Any suggestions? Thanks. Jacob Edit: I forgot to mention that I'm talking about wheel bearings:)

On a related note, what's a good relay/power setup for a radiator fan? I want it to be on whenever the key is in the "on" position. I'm wondering if something from the car audio world would work, since I'll probably want more switched power in the future. Thanks. Jacob

Since my radiator fan may be broken, I thought I'd check to see what fan you guys are using for EJ22 swaps. I might as well replace it with one that will work later when/if I do the swap... Thanks. Jacob

You're right on the exhaust flange. Only two holes on each side, and 2 studs/side with nuts. You can actually see on your pictures where two of the holes are rusty from the flange, and the other two are a different color. They just come with 4 for some reason that I'm sure someone else will explain. Jacob
