EJ Swap - now noise in my speakers
I just searched, but I didn't find anything on your standalone on USMB. I thought the Link went the way of the dodo. Is there a thread somewhere where you give specifics? I know this is a semi-hijack, but I think there's some value to the community here as well. Thanks. Jacob

EJ22 swap to EA questions on harness
I got my XT-6 clutch stuff from Discount Import Parts in Beaverton. They had the best prices for stuff with any quality. I got the flywheel pre-drilled from Scott In Bellingham. I don't know where I would go for an un-drilled flywheel. Jacob

should I just swap my 5spd for a 6?
I've seen one "sweet" deal on a 6-speed in the last 4 years. Other than that, in the vendor subsection of the Northwest section of Nasioc.com, there are a couple companies that part out STIs. They usually want $5-6k for the tranny. That said, I'm way happier with my 6-speed than I could ever be with a 5-speed (without dual range, that is:)). Jacob

EA81 Struts: KYB Gas-a-just
You lose front height adjustment with KYBs. You can try to find different springs or change your wheel/tire size, though, if you don't like the height it's at. You can still adjust the rear. I never messed with the height of my Brat, so it was no big deal to lose front adjustability. Lots of people have run this combination. If you search the forum, you can learn a lot more about other options, too. Jacob

EA81 Struts: KYB Gas-a-just
If your struts haven't been replaced in 20 years, then anything will likely be a major improvement. I run GR2s up front and Gas-A-Justs in the rear of my Brat. It doesn't autocross, but it's been through about 10 rallycrosses. It's hard to comment on what those shocks will do by themselves, though, since I have a swaybar from Selby's Swaybars (they took over Whiteline's EA81 production) in the rear as well, but I'm pretty impressed with how much crap can be in the back without it sagging very much. aftermarket surge tanks
I've been looking into this as well. I'd be careful with the ones that are just a modified fuel filter. I guess a lot of fuel injection-pressured pumps prefer to push gas through a filter, not pull through one. Having it pull through the filter may reduce its life. Hopefully someone who knows more can chime in, though. Jacob

EMPI Axles Local in Olympia?
No problem. I've been running 1 EMPI and 1 cheap NAPA axle for probably 9 months now with no issues. Jacob

EMPI Axles Local in Olympia?
Well, I have one that hasn't caused me problems, so I don't know if I want to comment on the quality of the part. I just know that I can't watch this thread happen without warning the OP that the website mentioned sucks, and that I'll never buy anything from there again. Jacob

EMPI Axles Local in Olympia?
I ordered from that site and received very poor customer service. Not that it should matter, but support is in India. I had a hard time explaining what a DOJ is and why it was broken, and they ended up not taking it back under warranty, so now I have a broken EMPI axle collecting dust. That site will be fine if you know you won't have any problems, but if they ship the wrong thing or anything, you'll wish you had gone elsewhere. Jacob

Ford fuel pump???
I used google to teach me about the Ford fuel pump as well as searching on the boards. The pump is popular in the VW crowds. One site said it's not self-priming, which may have something to do with what you're asking. Jacob

effing alternators
+1 on the Maxima alternator. It's darn near bolt-in, newer, stronger, etc. +1,000,000 for the look on GD's face when he sees the wiring I did in my Brat:lol: Jacob

Oregon Rally Group 2010 Rallycross Schedule--updated 1/12/2010
In what class will you be running your Brat? I ran mine last year in M4. It turned some heads, to say the least:banana: Jacob

Subaru Base N off road rally car
Check out these sites: rally-america.com/rules.php - They give some rules on what you can and can't do while building a rally car. FIA has similar rules for events outside the US, which may be more useful for you. http://www.specialstage.com - The forums and classifieds here will be helpful. http://www.nasioc.com - This is a forum for Imprezas. http://www.writerguy.com/primitive/nwrallyschool.htm - It's important to upgrade the driver too, so here's a link to a rally school. If you're willing to dump enough money to rally prep a car, you may as well learn how to drive it:) Jacob

Nobody seems to sell u-joints
Where in Washington are you? edrach and bratsrus1 have recommended good places. Just search for their names and "driveshaft" or something. I went to Drive Line Services in Portland, and I am beyond happy with their work and price. Jacob

EA81 to EJ22 Swap Intake Ideas?
I get it. Thanks. I never thought an intake was that great of a thing, but here I am considering it. How strange... Jacob

EA81 to EJ22 Swap Intake Ideas?
Thanks. What kind of cone/adapter did you go with? I doubt I'll see any performance, but it would be inspectable and cleanable. It's not going to Dakar or anything, so I wouldn't mind keeping it under the hood and looking at it occasionally. Jacob

EA81 to EJ22 Swap Intake Ideas?
I read the writeup, and I searched. I'm looking for creative ideas for the air intake system when I do the EJ22 swap in my Brat. This thing would be for rallyx only, so mine might get more dirt but a lot less water than a typical wheeling Brat. Let me know what you guys have come up with. Thanks. Jacob

Subaru of America announces rallycross contingency awards for 2010
One thing you didn't mention is that they are only requiring that you drive something with a Subaru engine and body. In prior years that I've paid attention to, you had to have a somewhat new Subaru, not a classic, like my rallyx car:) As I read it, my Brat qualifies. Now all I need is to do a lot better than last year... Jacob

Installing an lsd in the front diff
I've heard somewhat good things about Phantom Grip. They sell a front LSD for Subarus that isn't too expensive. Lots of FWD crouds like them. Jacob

4 wheel disks on my EA81 sedan..slight problem
Thanks for the update. I was following this thread a month or so ago. If you had to do it again, would you just get a couple metric valves and save yourself some swearing, or do they not exist? Jacob

Another Brat (almost) on the road
It's good to see that thing getting close to driving again. It gave me all sorts of ideas for my rallyx Brat. I never heard of the EA71 piston trick until just now, though... Jacob

My new BRAT... and it has some issues
Mine too:) As for the 4-low thing, if it's like mine, you just need to pull up higher/harder to get it to engage. For some reason, it feels like it's in the right spot, but it's not engaged. Try that, and replace the tranny mounts when you can. Jacob

Weber Question
Are you sure it came from a Subaru? BMW uses nomenclature like that, I think. Jacob

Carb'd EJ?
Unless it's a secret, you may as well post the numbers up here for people looking to do this in the future... Jacob

Quick and dirty fix for a sloppy shift linkage
^^^What he said. I've put aluminum flashing on my Brat for different things. It always seems to wear out or move around. GD's fix, along with new motor and tranny mounts, are in my category of "should have done this a long time ago". Jacob
