  1. from the sounds of things I suppose it's good Fox got that turbo wagon running...how else is he gonna get home? Eight Soobs swallowed by the Iowa mud? Sweet Lord! I'm there with you in spirit, boys, I truly am.
  2. If anyone catches word, post updates from time to time on how the Subaru Alliance is doing with those two Soobs from Des Moines...
  3. Figured I wasn't alone. I don't know, I might go for the 2.2 when the time comes though, because A. it's cheaper and B. I have a phobia about interference engines (as I have snapped the belt on a Camry that would've required buying another car if it was an interference engine, which thankfully the 3s-fe isn't) I didn't know the 2.5 was an interference engine until I poked around the new-gen board. Fox with his open-cover EA82's makes a timing belt job sound as serious as an oil change...
  4. I've been digging throug the websites on those and that looks like one slick package. I've long considered picking up one of those Toyota vans that share a similar profile to the Vanagon because I'm something of a Toyota believer, but seeing how slick the Subaru engine fits in the VW van has sort've changed my mind. So, I'm keeping my eyes peeled for an '80's Westfalia in need of an engine. Anybody on the board have one of these beasts? (I know at least one hangs out around here...)
  5. Archemitis...maybe you and Morgan can carpool or something? Anyhow, Subaru Alliance guys, I just got off the phone with our man in Des Moines, and a $150 money order is on its way to him. It might not make it in time so I gave him the serial # and the post office phone number and you guys should be good to go. Fox, you need to call him and set up the time you'll be there...he doesn't want to wait around the whole day for you. Good luck with everything! -Tim Hansen
  6. Fox & Company: I spoke to Mr. Starry (the guy with the Subaru's...appropo, eh?) and everything should be a go for the 24th, although he said they're expecting rain in Des Moines. I am sending the $200 money order to him tomorrow. Be safe, eh? -Tim Hansen
  7. Hey, McBrat (and others headed through McBrat's vicinity to and from the meet) Miles Fox done got it together to pick up those two Subarus near you Since he can only trailer one back, the plan is to get the 1984 turbo wagon with the blown turbo back up and running so as to drive back to IN. So, as figuring there will be an unseasonably high concentration of Subaru maniacs in the area, what are the chances of a small wrenching party to resuscitate that wagon either before or after the meet? I myself won't be going...I'm busy editing the movie! See you in Butler at the end of May with an early cut of it. Also, ShawnW; I know you had planned on being rid of it by now, but if you still have that beige parts wagon, the Butler boys will gladly relieve you of anything you're disposing of (all that beige interior stuff, for example) either on the way out or on the way back, depending. Fox is going to try to check his e-mail on a daily basis through this week to plan various caravanning and meet-up type activities related to the Iowa meet and the retrieval of those two Subarus. -Tim Hansen
  8. Ah, that should buff out. Of course we know Miles Fox would almost assuredly drive it with a little sledgehammer sheetmetal work. You should be able to salvage a lot from it, including the safari rack...even if it's bent, it's useable..
  9. Trust me, we don't wanna be introducin' the whole mess of tapes into a court of law. That's FORTY-ONE HOURS. Miles, I tried calling the office; the number came up disconnected. I called the other line and left a message. My number is 262-325-0346. Give me a call if you can. I'm starting in on editing tonight. -Tim Hansen
  10. Just thought I'd give everyone an update on the situation; I've been going through the tapes and we've had some dropout issues. Might be the tapes, might be an issue with the camera, but the entire McBrat episode is just about useless. I'm not too concerned; the narrative needs condensing anyway. Also, in reviewing the tapes, guess what? The return to Butler is on tape 32, which I have. So, the cops have twenty minutes of me interviewing Matt & Heather, the BMV thing, and two hours of themselves. Which, in a new twist, they will not allow me access to without permission from the DeKalb County Prosecutor. So, Miles, which prosecutor is on your case? Also, what's up with the Iowa Subarus? -Tim Hansen
  11. Come on, now, Fox. Don't agitate until you're in the clear. Did you boys get those statements turned in today? The sooner the better. It's so easy to clear your name on this one. You don't need this heat now. -Tim Hansen
  12. Well, the Trashwagon is back in Fox's hands, we did some baja'in Sunday afternoon for the documentary (some rough stuff, too...could've used a skidplate out there...) We shot over 40 hours of footage; I'll be editing almost full-time thru May and will hopefully have the finished product ready for the May meet in Butler. As for the latest law enforcement debacle, currently, Capt. Planck said if we can get the real culprit of the pot smoking to fess up, they'll drop the charges. He knows who he is...we all know who he is...it's just a matter of time and honor. So, here's hoping it works out. Also, the Butler PD still have tapes 33, 34, and 35, but since they don't even know what DV is let alone have a deck to play them, they will give them back if I dub VHS copies for them. This, unfortunately, couldn't be wrangled during the weekend and will necessitate another 12-hour round trip drive down from Milwaukee, possibly next weekend, to acommodate. Other Subaru news from Butler. After we wrapped taping, we poked around with their EA82 sedan that had been sitting since January. Turns out it was just a bad fuse. So, the Butler boys have three, running, noisy Subarus to harass the police with. That, and the "Pigz Go Home" sign in their window, which has a direct sightline to the police station half a block down the street from their apartment. When I head down to dub the tapes we may repaint the sedan. Also, acting on McBrat's lead, we found two awesome EA81 projects in the McBrat, Iowa area for $100 apiece (an '84 turbo 4wd wagon and a fully loaded '84 GL10 sedan) which we'll try to acquire during the Iowa meet. In connection to this, I'll have to pester Shawn to hang on to that beige EA81 parts wagon for a little longer... -Tim Hansen
  13. Absolutely nobody can attract trouble like Mr. Miles Fox. We return to Butler, IN, hours ahead of schedule (11:00 AM Friday) Shooting has gone well, we had 32 hours of footage in the can and had started our 33rd. Both cars have performed flawlessly since Iowa. Both are parked securely in Fox's apartment driveway. Now, bajaing is the only item on the agenda. Matt, the kid who we entrusted the place to, is unsure of whether his license is valid for driving the trashwagon. We walk around the block with the camera in tow to the BMV, which is literally on the same corner as Fox's apartment and shares a parking lot. The woman behind the counter recognized Fox and asked us to turn the camera off...something about a felony. Well, Matt's license checks out OK and we return to the apartment. Fox takes a shower and falls asleep. Matt, meanwhile, took the opportunity to rip through a few joints by the window. Suddenly, the cops show up, triggered by a complaint by the BMV lady. They smell pot. I keep the cameras rolling as long as I can. The end result; both Fox and Myoss Feece wind up arrested, tapes #33, 34, and 35 are confiscated for evidence, Fox is charged with posession, posession with prior (a felony) and paraphenalia (an IN infraction), and Feece the same (minus prior conviction). $2500 bond for Fox, $500 for Feece (paid at 10% with surety bonds), AND THE TRASHWAGON IS SEIZED AS EVIDENCE. The engine wasn't even cold when the impound wrecker carted it off. I have continued taping. 1ABAJA, Fox's boss, graciously posted bond. Fortunately, Fox knows the wrecker driver (a Subaru owner, in fact), and we will spend the better part of tomorrow trying to get the Trashwagon back and maybe get some bajain' in. So, yes, Fox was arrested again, yes it's mostly on tape (if I can get them back from the fuzz), yes the Trashwagon made it back to Indiana without incident...if but for a brief moment of freedom. Fox is free on bond presently. This will make for interesting film. The local constabulary have a deep, abiding hatred of all things Fox and seem to exist to incarcerate this man. Liberty has been tarnished. Justice has been waylaid. Anybody a lawyer? FREE MILES FOX! -Tim Hansen [filmmaker]
  14. Here we go, boys. I'm heading off to class now (10:40), will be leaving Milwaukee at 1:00 PM directly. Might stop for groceries. Should be arriving in Butler at 6:00 PM CST, which is 7:00 PM your time. My cell phone # is 262-325-0346, fyi. We have fifty hours of DV tapes, we've got a full compliment of supplies, we are prepared. Let's rock. -Tim Hansen
  15. Me, I'm 100% hardcore Toyota presently (technically, 100% hardcore 1987-1991 Toyota Camry 4-cyl station wagons...EIGHT of them between my friends and I), but all this Soob business is rubbing off. Miles Fox documentary starts shooting tomorrow. I might be in a Soob of my own by the end of it.... -Tim Hansen
  16. Geez, some of all y'all have out-Foxed Fox what with the massive air. At least on photographic record. Ahem...TO DATE. MILES FOX DOCUMENTARY ROAD TRIP STARTS TOMORROW!
  17. AMAZING! No, they don't! You must delete the space before the slash! Awrlright, what the heck?
  18. Hmm...we may have killed Fox's warpthree page. Not known for bandwith, no. Anyhow, it's easy enough to get to the new board if you modify the address in your browser after posting the link. WEIRD TIMES for the USMB. This is the truth. Granted, I have a lassiez-faire, devil-may-care attitude about most everything, so all the hubbub boggles my mind...
  19. Also, due to the recent chicanes in public discourse around here, this thread will probably become the central discussion of the upcoming Miles Fox road trip and documentary on the USMB. One week from tomorrow, ladies and gentlemen, one week from tomorrow! -Tim Hansen
  20. Interesting. This seems to possibly be an ezboard thing to prevent deep-linking to ezboard pages. No matter how many times you correct the URL, it will alternately add a space before the slash or change the "o" in ezboard to an "i". WEIRD AS ALL GETOUT. As a dodge, go to the following page and click on "Subaru Alliance Message Board" http://www.warpthree.com/milesfox/
  21. I'm the filmmaker making the documentary about Miles' trip to rescue Trashwagon 5. After observing the community over the past few weeks, I'm starting to develop an inclination towards finding one of these beasts for myself. I always liked the early-'80's wagons, but I've seen good deals on first-generation Legacy wagons, although those don't seem to have the devoted off-road community behind them. Presently I'm a diehard fan of the '87-'91 Toyota Camry wagon with the 3S-FE four cylinder (huge cargo space and 30 mpg with an auto...plus it's a Toyota!) What exactly am I getting myself into here? -Tim Hansen
  22. Hold tight, everyone. We're T-minus TEN DAYS and counting. If you want in on this grand adventure, speak up now! I'm rounding up last-minute supplies. If anyone on the trip itinerary has junky camcorders they wish to contribute to the cause, or lapel/lavalier microphones, Soob parts, road food, gasoline cards, or general karmic goodwill, please make it known to us. How excited am I about this? I'm not sleeping well. Other demands in my life are being neglected. Yet I remain cool and confident, secure in the knowledge that this will just absolutely totally ROCK, no matter what lurks in wait for us in the mysterious and bewildering unknown! -Tim Hansen [the filmmaker]
  23. Oh, we're in the business now. I just purchased a carton of 100 miniDV tapes off eBay. I plan on using less than half of those for the shoot and will be able to sell the rest of them to my classmates and possibly get all my tapes for free, if not make a meager profit on the deal. I also picked up a top-of-the-line DC-to-AC inverter. We have some serious juice now. All I need now are some lapel/lavalier microphones. Anybody have a line on those? Also, keep looking for those junky camcorders. We are T-minus 10 DAYS and counting, people. Excitement is in the AIR. Miles; how are those sketches of your misadventures coming? The film/video department apparently wants my classwork in the form of a 10-minute short, so I plan to focus on telling the basic history of Who Is Miles Fox and the story of your last roadtrip first and foremost through your artwork, using interview footage for a voiceover narration. Don't fret, though. I'm doing an action-packed two hour documentary extravaganza. Very little can stop us now. Remember, as the good Doctor said, when the going gets weird, the weird turn pro! Also, see what we'd have to do to dig up all your various mugshots from your various arrests/incarcerations. I have an idea for a photo/story montage I'd like to incorporate. -Tim Hansen
  24. Main mission is to retrieve Trashwagon 5 from Montana. I'm shooting a DV documentary about it. -Tim Hansen
  25. Also, Feece, don't know if you noticed, but there's a twin to your RX for $500 in Colorado, posted on the marketplace board...
