  1. Fortunately we have an unfinished basement. Shawn, you're definitely on the short list of people I'd like to record on the phone.
  2. OK, I hate the overuse of the term "extreme" as much as everyone else, but it's the easiest way to express what I'm looking for. I'm finishing up "Catch This Fox", the Miles Fox movie I've been editing off and on for a year, and I want to put a special feature on the DVD, a little clip show of the craziest damn old-school Subaru stuff you guys ever caught on tape. If you've got something to contribute, let me know. I'll be posting a release form on my website soon. Compensation for accepted contributions will be a copy of the DVD (which is going to be priced at $12, $10 for USMB members), plus I might even get Fox to autograph your copy; we'll see how easy he is to get ahold of. (anybody see him lately?) You will retain all rights to your material, this is a non-exclusive use thing that grants me the rights to stick it on my DVD. (gotta mind your P's & Q's with the IP) Fox had a tape of what I believe was Hatch Patrol stuff playing when I got there so I do have footage of them watching it but not the tape itself. I'd like to give credit where credit is due; there was a bobtail green Brat doing some offroading and a white RX rallycrossing so if this sounds familiar, let me know. I'd also like to do some phone interviews with people who've had encounters with Miles, NEGATIVE OR POSITIVE AS THEY MAY BE, as sound for a sequence to open the film, an illustrated "Legend of Miles Fox" which I'm still trying to get him to draw. Honestly, I'm probably going to have to drag him up here from Indiana and lock him in the basement until we get the illustrations and voiceover work done. Either PM me, e-mail me, or call me at (262) 325-0346 if any of this sounds like a thing that intrigues you and that you'd like to help out with. - Tim Hansen
  3. hey, do you guys think you could put me in touch with the dudes who made that tape? I've got a new idea to accumulate "extreme" subaru footage (much as I loathe the overused term "extreme") for a special feature on the Catch This Fox DVD. -Tim Hansen (subaru filmmaker)
  4. Yeah, I saw that too. 'Course I browse Parts Cars all the time anyway just for fun. I'm in WI so too far away...nice score!
  5. Silver Fox, eh? Is it looking for romance? In its chain-smoke Kansas flashdance rump roast-pants, perhaps?
  6. sweet. a little short on orange though. seems almost wrong. all it needs is some orange reflective vinyl pinstripes or something. i may be able to have a roll of the stuff waiting for you here in wi. -tw
  7. OK, how's this for wild; I just checked out the schedule for this year's Hot Rod Power Tour. It leaves June 4. From Milwaukee. Heads thru Indiana en route to Florida. June 4 Miller Park - Milwaukee, WI June 5 Illinois State Fairgrounds - Springfield, IL June 6 Indianapolis Raceway Park - Indianapolis, IN June 7 Gaylord Opryland Resort - Nashville, TN June 8 Birmingham Race Course - Birmingham, AL June 9 North Florida Fair - Tallahassee, FL June 10 Osceola Heritage Park - Kissimmee-St. Cloud, FL June 11 return to Osceola Heritage Park for Long Hauler Award and Photo Fox, if it is even remotely possible, I'm going to get this done and set to go for us to blitz the whole damn thing. Plus, it cuts through your territory; get the boys together for a shindig / media opportunity at the Indianapolis stop, maybe? So, yeah, it's basically four days after Memorial Day. Which means we beat it back to Milwaukee directly from the Alliance meet. (It's leaving from my hometown. We gotta)
  8. i'm gonna add a bit of excitement to this; I know it was supposed to be last year but life got strange. This year I absolutely have to have the movie done by Memorial Day. Consider the '05 Alliance Meet the premiere of "Catch This Fox". If things go really well, expect a replica Trashwagon 5 on the premises. -Tim Hansen
  9. This here is a heartwarming tale of redemption...a last-minute reprieve from the grave! Anyhow, any Subaru that shade of green ought never to die. Fox; we gotta tear into those Subarus out at Subiemech's place soon. I need to buy a car trailer. Also, I've got an '88-ish GL wagon for free needing brake work for you if you want it. 4wd auto, power windows... -Tim Hansen
  10. How's this for exciting? I think I can actually swing at the very least a full length edit of "Catch This Fox" for the event. Won't necessarily be done as I'm still hoping Fox will sketch out his larger-than-life story and get a chance to do some voiceover for it, but we are making progess. I'm actually putting my entire course load this semester towards getting it finished. With a touch of professional guidance, we're really gonna make some dang traction. I might even have to cut back to part time at CompUSA but it'll be worth it. My plans still involve getting it done and on DVD in time to hit the road for the Hot Rod Power Tour in a Trashwagon 5 replica built on that turbowagon waiting for us out at Subiemech's place. I might actually be passing thru there fairly soon on my way back from a quick trip to CA...could at least pick up the scooters maybe. This year, stuff's gonna happen. Incidentally, a short piece I did on a local salvage yard on 16mm film is now on my website at http://www.economysuperstar.com , under "movies". Lots of stuff afoot there too, I'm on the verge of launching a webcomic among other things. -Tim Hansen
  11. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6783&item=7932661132&rd=1 They're in Virginia. Too far away for me, and I don't have the time or money to do it. One is a real rough-looking Westfalia camper. I know a bunch of you guys are keen on this!
  12. funny, i'm actually trying to find parts to convert my '88 Camry from analog to digital! (digi dash Camrys were only sold in Canada...)
  13. Dang. This is that $100 hatch I got a little while ago. I traded it to my friends here (nice to see you, Andrew!) for a motorcycle. The guy I got it from said he had welded some sort of collar onto it or something as the old one had rusted out and broken. Seemed solid and drove OK when I had it but I never jacked up the car. Andrew drove to Minnesota and back with it like this! They're working on it out in my garage. Hopefully we can get it put right before they drive to Belize.
  14. Well, the 27th is looming large, boys. I can be in Indiana on the 26th but I need to know where to go and who to talk to. Am I testifying or what? Can I get my tapes back? Have they come up with a deal that beats the felony rap and lets you keep your license? I tried calling but there was no answer. Anybody out there know what's become of Fox? I'm serious. I'm packed and ready to go. I will leave directly on Tuesday morning; all I need is directions. Tim Hansen (262) 325-0346
  15. When I get "Catch This Fox" done it's gonna be the most Subaruest movie ever. I guaran-damnn-tee it.
  16. Yeah, the $100 Hatch revealed another problem to us tonight after we went and filled it up for the first time. Came back out to the garage a while later and saw a pretty big puddle. Drove it out for groceries and still saw about a 5" spot under it in the parking lot when we came back. It's still dark so I can't get a look at it but what's the general prognosis on these? Is it possible it's just the filler neck or do we need a whole new tank? We're pretty green on the day-to-day problems of the Subaru.
  17. Fox, I'll be there. Good to hear from you! I still gotta get some artwork and some voiceover audio up outta you for the movie. Any news on court? Also, you'll be thrilled to know that I got a 1985 Hatch, 4-spd d/r, for $100. My brother instantly deeboed it from me but it's cool since I owed him the money. Count me in, maybe both of us! -Tim Hansen
  18. This is from "Catch This Fox", which ought to be ready in time for Christmas this year... -Tim Hansen (the filmmaker) '85 GL Hatch 4-spd D/R
  19. What manner of gear oil do these take? We're gonna do an oil change this weekend. What other things should we check while it's up on ramp stands?
  20. Went and got it this afternoon. My brother has sort of claimed it for his winter car. I owed him money anyway so we're square. Anyhow, this thing is in amazing shape for $100. The tires are brand new! (still have the little nubs on a few of 'em) The previous owner bought it for $600 four years ago and only put 20k on it. The brakes will need attention and my brother says it does not like to downshift (the 4-spd will pop out of gear). What are the general things we should check? While I have driven Trashwagon 5 across the country, this hatch is in fact my first Subaru.
  21. It runs, drives, and it cost $100! We pick it up tomorrow. Some dude flagged me down while I was driving my yellow Toyota van; he wanted one. He had a Legacy wagon and we chatted about Subarus a bit, and he said a friend of his had an '80's Subaru wagon that he was getting rid of. Went to check it out tonight, turned out to be a bright red hatch with a 4spd d/r and a big sunroof. Only 142k on it. Needs some minor stuff (axle boots, etc.) and has some developing rust problems (the driver's seat is sinking through the floor. We will need to fix that..) Funny thing is I saw another hatch w/ a busted left quarter window tonight. They're pretty uncommon up here in Milwaukee.
  22. Wow. Was out there today for a photo project and they'd hauled in a '78-ish Subaru GF hardtop coupe...looked pretty mossy so was probably somebody's yard ornament for many a year. Beige with nice brown interior, four round headlights, all trim, glass, and lenses in perfectly useable shape. Does anyone need anything? I know these guys and could get a good deal on this stuff. This is pretty much the ONLY '70's-vintage Subaru coupe I've ever seen, and likely the only one in my area. -Tim Hansen
  23. Nobody's more indigenous to this region than Miles Fox. Where is he? What happened to him? (still working on the movie...)
  24. Hey, everybody. I'm en route to Iowa to retrieve not a Subaru but an '88 Camry Wagon but it's in Knoxville, IA, and we need to fix the clutch slave cylinder on it to drive it home (our tow dolly connection fell through) Are McBrat or any others in the vicinity gonna be around anytime during Tuesday evening or Wednesday (or maybe Thursday?) If so, please call me at 262-325-0346 as I'll be off the internet until we get back. Also, Subiemech, PLEASE give me a call as I want to at the very least pick up those scooters while I'm out there. Thanks again, everyone! -Tim Hansen ps work on the miles fox movie is starting to roll again. I'm hoping to have the DVD's out for Christmas this year.
