  1. Shakotan Boogie, eh, Desmond? I had to Google it just to figure out what the hell you're on about. Glad to see you here. For those just joining the discussion, Desmond here has wound up with the grim duty of custody over most of the derelict heaps in my parents' backyard (who are fed up with such things, especially since I'm summering in central New York State...) This particular beast hasn't been run since '05, wherein it ran for aoubt 15 min. before we noticed it milkshaking. Prior to that, it was off the road since the early '90's. Up next for him will be doing an EA82 engine replacement and 5-speed D/R swap into the Trashwagon replica which I am also giving him. We've got a little more to shoot with it and this is most likely the quickest way of getting it on the road again.
  2. Was wondering if anyone had a set of EA81 blueprints; I'm entertaining the idea of a 3D cgi model of the Trashwagon for the movie. Yes, I'm still working on it...
  3. #5, over the trim. I've seen it done, and it looks good. Even better, ditch the trim and fill the holes.
  4. Nope, stuff is still afoot, looking at heading down middle of next week. Who is this fellow and how do we contact him?
  5. Columbus is more or less on the way between Milwaukee and Virginia, though, and we might stop by anyway. As it happens, a couple of Yugo aficionados from C-bus that we met a a junkyard there last October wound up running the BA/BE rally with us...small world. We're back in Wisconsin and have regular internet access now so stay tuned.
  6. Tim Hansen here checking in from the BA/BE rally. The Trashwagon never quite made it to the event proper; Fox blew the head gasket in Ohio and limped it to VA. The Camry wagon we've entered is doing fine but we need to come up with a way of retrieving/storing/fixing the car. Essentially, if there's anyone who lives in the vicinity, we'd like to find some reasonable offer to pick up the car and store it for a while since it may be a month or so until we can come after it. We need to rustle up another EA82 engine to throw in it since the right side of it has no compression. We have internet at the hotels and will be checking regularly. The car still runs, if only on two cylinders. Time is of the essence; the gas station will only let it stay there two weeks. -Tim Hansen 262-325-0346 - call me if you have any bright ideas.
  7. Maroon. Totally an "old man" color. Any red that's not bright retina-scorching #FF0000 red just ain't gonna cut it for me. White and silver are pretty boring colors but not as aggressively unpleasant as maroon. I actually really liked the light metallic green. Any green that's not remotely "teal" is AOK with me. (ie, everything more towards yellow than blue)
  8. Why do I get the impression that you tried all three simultaneously?
  9. that green is too cool to paint over. if you must accent it how about a flat camo green?
  10. Hell, destruction of Gen2's is starting to bug me! A $200 4WD D/R EA82 is ideal!
  11. The Trashwagon 5 replica is, for general intents and purposes, simply Trashwagon. Trashwagon 5 II if you want to get technical; it's a promotional vehicle for the movie. Which is coming along nicely, thanks. Incidentally, TW5II has TW5's engine in it now, and we'll be finishing it up just as soon as Fox gets the sedan and Chris Smith's wagon done...
  12. If this is the EA82 one from the late '80's GL's, I think Fox has a grey one in a car he's parting out/putting together with leftovers from another project. I'll ask him tomorrow...
  13. check the tension next time.......suppose you had the covers ON and the belt popped off, that would suck. be glad the belts were open!!!! -milesfox
  14. take a spare distributor. also the basic tools, 10-14mm wrench and socket, flat and phillips screwdriver, and your favorite pliers. bring odd bits of wires and connectors if you have to hotwire the fan or coil or lights of any sort spare tire, jack, qts of oil dont take too much more than you will reasonably need. you know your car best so that alone will tell you wnat it will want to have along
  15. Digital! All the way! (of course, I'm big on goofball nerdy '80's crap) Wire up an extra tach if you crave analog. Hell, I'm having fits trying to find an '87-'91 Toyota Camry digital dash. They only sold them in Japan and Canada. If any of you PacNW folks see one, tell me!
  16. i collect keys from rando, soobs at the junkyard. i do do as the cars will be gone right away or i will be the only one back for them random junkyard key worked in my sedan's door. another one worked in trashwagons ignition my 88 sedan and 87 rx have both the same key cut as either of their keys works in both the locks and ign in either car
  17. Shoot, the Auto Glass Specialists folks only charged me $100 to remove a good windshield from my parts Camry and install it in another one we'd already removed a shattered windshield from. The pro equipment for windshield removal is pretty neat, too. Imagine a Sawzall with a very flexible spatula-like attachment. Made damn short work of it.
  18. man that puts me all in an interceptin' kind of mood.
  19. Plans changed slightly; no problems with the new Trashwagon (Trashwagon 7 or 5 II depending who you talk to...I kinda like Trashwagon 5 II) or with Fox towing the RX all the way back to Milwaukee with the sedan and my tow dolly. We had to be back here Tuesday night on account of a filmmaker who is actually making a movie about -me- and had a flight back to LA today. Fox is still gearing up for an East Coast trip but cash is tight at present; as soon as we can find some local employ and a bit of green he should be on his way, tentatively within the month. So, keep vigilant, he has not forgotten you. As far as how the trip went, well, it had ups and downs. Sunday was nine hours of driving all to get to Springfield too late to do much of anything (compounded by the fact that I rear-ended a trailer hitched to a '67 Camaro promptly upon reaching the fairgrounds), Monday in Indy went well with lots of positive response to the movie project and also Fox ran a decent 20.49 quarter mile at Indianapolis Raceway Park with a substantially loaded down sedan still wearing a bit of mud from the Ohio meet. We have all of that on video. Would've run the Trashwagon myself but we flat ran out of time. -Tim Hansen
  20. Yeah, man! That Chromallusion paint is like $500 a pint. Silly expensive. You have a paint job on that car that probably cost five times what the car is worth. Keep it...it's tremendously unique on a hatch! If there's rust on the bottom, just do it up two-tone! Flat black from the rub strip down would be cool...
  21. Miles Fox has arrived here in Milwaukee with a beautiful coat of Ohio mud decorating the sedan. We have video; the Alliance meet will go into the movie one way or another.
  22. incredible pictures. any higher-res ones? it sucks tremendously that i get my livelihood from the vacuous world of retail; otherwise I'd have been there. Memorial Day Weekend, folks. This is one of the big events when you sell computers. -tim hansen
  23. "Catch This Fox" and the trashwagon replica are coming to Woodward. If we don't get it together in time for the Hot Rod Power Tour (which REALLY snuck up on me...thought the damn thing was in July), then the Woodward event will be our premiere. Fox is here in Milwaukee now and work is progressing swiftly. -Tim Hansen
  24. Bear in mind that I am of course interested in any and all interesting Subaru footage for the Miles Fox movie... -Tim Hansen
