  1. I tried a telescopic magnet to no avail, because it doesn't flex. I need a good flex telescoping magnet so it can bend going in.
  2. Anecdotal data: A family member had a 2001 OBW, 2.5L - wrecked it at something like 150K miles, no HG issues or other issues. Now 2000 OBW, 2.5L, 198K miles, no HG issues.
  3. I was trying to remove the crankshaft bolt. I accessed the bung hole, tried to hold the TC with a 3/8" extension but it was too short and dropped right into it. Now I am having a hard time turning the bolt, at times it goes easy but in one spot it kind of gets stuck. Do I have to remove the transmission now or what?
  4. I have a problem, I droped a short 3/8" extension into the bung hole. It didn't go into one of the holes in the TC but in the large space adjecent to it. Now when I try to turn the crank bolt, it rotates smoothly most of the way except in one point where it encounters resistance... Is this a problem and how do I get this piece out of there? Where exactly is it?
  5. Yes, I marked it --- and finally now I saw it move. Now what? I think this answers my question:
  6. See, that's the problem. When I rotate the crank bolt, while looking in that hole, I don't see anything moving at all. Confused :-\
  7. OK, I found the plate but when I turn the crankshaft bolt with the breaker bar, nothing is rotating inside.
  8. Cannot find the drive plate even after taking the air box. Where is it?
  9. I will do that... Just need to find it first. I am ready to unbolt it otherwise:
  10. How do I hold the crank pulley when removing the bolt? I have a breaker bar and a 22mm socket but it's moving and I cannot get the bolt off.
  11. > You can get a pulley holder, Where do I get this part? I had some repair shop look at it and was told that camshaft seals are bad and the valve cover gaskets are leaking. I question that, as they didn't mention the massive power steering leak. That is leaking for sure but I am not sure if it's getting to the exhaust or if it's something else. I will shoot pics from the bottom. There is a lot of oil there but where it's coming from, I am not sure. I do know that when the vehicle is sitting, I get next to no leaks. When it's driving apparetly there is a massive leak. So that to me suggests either power steering or camshaft? I need expert advise. I will post more detailed pics shortly. Now I need a plan to deal with the leaky power steering pump. Do I just get a rebuild kit or do I replace the whole thing? I don't fully understand. I want to take care of all the issues while I got the thing apart. The 98 2.2L has 149,000 miles on it so I want to replace the timing belts anyway. Might as well do the WP. The radiator went bad so that is getting replaced.
  12. How do I get the crank pulley off and where is it? Yes, the power steering is leaking, should I replace it while I am at it? Is it cost-effective, is it difficult, how much do these pumps cost?
  13. I took out the radiator and fans and the alternator and WP belt. What's next? Should I remove the timing belt covers right now or is there something else to remove before I do that?
  14. Thanks, I got some parts from Jason. All needed for my cam seal oil leak as well as the radiator. He did suggest a few things I did not think of.
  15. I plan to do it, I have access to a rack so it should be pretty simple, doing it from below. I need to tear this apart and see exactly what's leaking. Exactly which pin wrench do you recommend?
  16. RE: tools I don't think I need to replace the crankshaft seal? I need to take a look, as far as I understand, the cam seal leak is much more common on 2.2L? Anyway, what can I use to improvise these tools?
  17. I printed some timing belt replacement manuals so they should help. Question, where is the cam seal located, in relationship to the timing belts? I understand it's right in that vicinity? So that in doing timing belts, I could replace everything in one shot. Another question, should I replace the Timing Belt tensioner as well? The 2.2L / vehicle has 147K miles on it.
  18. Their site appears to be: http://www.mikescarffsubaru.com/specials/parts.htm
  19. Thanks. I am doing T-belts, WP and other things, and plan to address the cooling system right at that time.
