  1. I ran out to the garage and looked at the exhaust ports. It's dual port. Maybe I have the year wrong? It came out of a second gen legacy auto. The wiring harness connector on the passenger rear side of the motor is completely different than what is in my car. So I thought that is was an OBD2 car. Any ideas what I'm looking at? I can post pics if it will help I guess the good news is that I'll should only have to swap the intake manifold/harness.
  2. gook info, thanks! It came out of an auto car so I'll have to plug the egr port and swap the intake/harness. will the single port exhaust y-pipe match up to the rest of my existing exhaust?
  3. My 1990 legacy ej22 has suffered a blown head gasket at 350k miles. I have a later (1996?) ej22 motor in the garage. I can see they are not identical and am wondering what is needed to swap motors. This is a back up car for me and I'd like to do the swap for as cheaply as possible. Thanks for your help!
  4. on my way home from school today I tried pushing the shifter as far to the left as I could repeatedly and then tried pulling it down into second and it worked! 3rd gear no longer grinds either. But, by the time I got home it was grinding going into 2nd. Is there a way to adjust the linkage? When I was inspecting it yesterday I saw it was a single rod that rotates for the left right motion at the stick and goes forward and back for the same direction at the stick.
  5. Hey guys, hopefully you can point me in the right direction. My car is a 1990 Legacy wagon with 5mt I pulled into a parking lot yesterday and when I tried to downshift into 2nd, it wasn't there. There is no grinding, or noises of any kind. It's like 2nd gear just isn't an option in the shift pattern anymore. Is this a shifter or transmission problem?
  6. this is with an outback lift, roof rack and the tallest/widest tires I can fit under the car. My GPS says my Odometer is pretty accurate now that I have big tires on it. It was probably off by 10% with the older stock sized tires.
  7. With highway driving I get 21-23 mpg, I think I got 24 one time and I calculate my MPG EVERY TANK because I don't trust the gas gauge. With 4.11 gears you aren't going to get great mileage.
  8. wow, those cars look great.
  9. can the differential and axles be swapped as a unit? Specifically, can I remove my 1990 legacy open diff and axles (stub on diff) and replace it with an LSD diff and axles (stub on axle) from an RS? Is there an issue with the RS axles in my legacy?
  10. I have a 1990 legacy that I'm building a 2.2/2.5 Frankenstein motor for. I believe my stock exhaust manifold/y pipe won't bolt up to the newer single port 2.2 heads I'll be using. Is this correct? Will a newer 2.2 single port exhaust manifold bolt up to the rest of my exhaust?
  11. it'll bolt together, it's called a Frankenstein motor. It's pretty well documented on this site and others. It raises compression to give you pretty good low end grunt. A lot of people install re-ground delta cams at the same time to get even more power.
  12. I have the axles that match the rearend. I guess the question is about hub spline and axle length.
  13. I would have figured you guys would know this answer to this. I guess I'll try the swap and let you guys know.

  15. thanks guys, so should the RS lsd and axles bolt in to my legacy?
  16. So I've searched and I'm sure the answer is out there but I can't find it. I have a 1990 Legacy with an open 4.11 differential. Today I picked up a LSD from a 2001 5 speed RS. I believe that makes this rear end a 4.11 VLSD. It has male axle stubs, so I picked those up too. I've read that the VLSD does not need any additive to the rear gear oil. it this correct? Will these RS rear axles bolt into my Legacy? What should I know before swapping in this differential and axles?
  17. I haven't heard that before. thanks for the tip! is that bracket on the axle side or the body side of the trailing arm?
  18. well, I decided those new parts looked lonely.... and I need new brakes. Yesterday, the 11.5" WRX fronts and the 11.4" H6 rears came in.
  19. the subaru is dirty and the jeep is clean. Why compare who can crawl better? Crawling is dumb and rally is awesome. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=weuLkxOJ-_c&feature=player_embedded
  20. reporting it stolen will keep the car from being scrapped. My guess is that it's already been sent to a junk yard or is someone's parts car.
  21. Probably, not always. Rings can be stubborn sometimes. Now, check for spark and spray some starting fluid (not at the same time) and let us know how it turns out!
  22. Checking for fuel is easier than pulling a line. Just spray some starting fluid down the throttle body. If it wants to start on ether then you have a fuel problem.
  23. it takes 4 things to make a car run; spark, fuel, compression, and timing. Check one at a time. With that low of miles and sitting that long I'd look at clogged fuel lines/bad fuel and possibly stuck rings (low compression).
