1990 Legacy Wagon L AWD $1,200...worth it???
Assuming it hasn't been sitting in a puddle in a fast food parking lot... You have 240K...is 100k worth $1200? Duh.

Speaking of Timing Belts...
powderhound replied to DiscoStu's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXDefinately do all the front oil seals. At 110K you're gonna need to do them soon anyway and they're cheap. H2O pump, T-stat, oil pump are also highly recomended.

92 legacy timing belt
powderhound replied to beppomarx's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX92 is ej22 and is non-interference. One t-belt. The t-belt job is "easy" as everything is right in front.

Legacy vs. Camry
powderhound replied to viceversa's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe Camry wagon is one of the ugliest cars on the road.

Doors and windows frozen shut
powderhound replied to outback_97's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXCold in the valley too? Probably the best snow conditions in October...ever! Ok this happened to me last year for the first time...although not every door froze so I was able to get in. Anyway I put a THIN bead of silicone on the rubber where it meets the window. Too much and it smears onto the window...too little and it doesn't work. Keep the pow comin' Wasatch.

99 legacy GT, loss of power
powderhound replied to dDigitalPimp's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYep the fuel filter is where legacy2.5 said and it couldn't be simpler to replace. Might also want to check plugs, wires, and air filter. Also run some Seafoam through the tank and pour some through the PCV. If all that doesn't help then consider the cats.

Odd Hillholder performance
Yesterday while parallel parking on a downhill I thought my hillholder held the car...couldn't be. So to day at a stop light with the car pointing downhill I tried it and sure enough it held the car. I thought the hillholder was only supposed to keep the car from rolling backwards. Any ideas why mine is working on downhills?

Who wants to laugh at me? Took me five years to find...the cupholders.
powderhound replied to Nihilator's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHmmm. What's this thing that says "push". Nice find.

Would you trade 97 Legacy for 99 Outback
powderhound replied to TeamPanic's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI'd do it in a heart beat...if I was getting the 97 out of it. I agree that the outback drives like a ship at sea aka a buick. Plus you get less miles and a bombproof engine. A 2.2 with 47K is maybe through 25% of its life whereas a 2.5 with 69K might be 50%. ~Rweddy...you can't compare the ride of first gen legacy with an outback...especially in this case. Go drive a 97 legacy and tell me it drives worse than an outback...no way.

Hail!
powderhound replied to Diesel's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHail is bad. But hey at least this may be a sign that the big snows will return to NM.

Pushing The AWD Limit (sorta)
powderhound replied to cannonball's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI would suspect the VC is on the way out and not the clutch or a combo. I to like to spin the tires on our gravel driveway...hey its the only chance we get. Anyway I can barely lay four patches with my 98 whereas the 01 OBW will go crazy fishtailing and all.

AWD ?4WD? FWD? Ehh????
powderhound replied to urabus1995's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe Rav-4 is a Toyota (built in Japan BTW) The CRV is the Honda with fake AWD.

Auto Talk Show about 96-99 2.5 Subaru

5sp vs. AT in 96-99 Outbacks
powderhound replied to 93legacyman's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXActually everyone in the salt belt got a recall warning that the rear subframe could rust through resulting in catastrophic failure. I assume CO was not included they use sand and gravel? like MT. Needless to say not exactly confidence inspiring especially when taken with all the other problems. Our 01 OBW has had three injectors replaced...one of them on two seperate occasions...terminal clutch judder...heated seats now come on whenever they want...coolant issues...I could go on.

Repostioning Subaru Marketing
powderhound replied to powderhound's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXRweddy-- True but do you think this will continue as Fuji moves the Subaru brand upscale. I just don't see traditional Subaru owners willing to pay 30K+.

Repostioning Subaru Marketing
powderhound replied to powderhound's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThat is what I meant by confused. They want to compete with Audi and BMW in five years. It is not easy to move upscale in the American market especially for a company that has traditionally been known for inexpensive cars. The problem they are having is that everyone else is coming out with awd. What the general public doesn't know and what Subaru needs to tell them is that subaru awd is superior in x number of ways. Johnny new car thinks the awd in a crv or buick rendevous is the same as Subaru's. "The beauty of awd" needs a new definition. In the meantime Subaru is losing its "core" consumer. I see this upscale move as a big mistake.

Repostioning Subaru Marketing
I have a marketing project to do. I'm thinking about repositioning Subaru seeing as how they seem quite confused at the moment. Any ideas?

5sp vs. AT in 96-99 Outbacks
powderhound replied to 93legacyman's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou mean the 05's? I think they look cool but I'm not fond of new subies...at least until they bring back the ej22, improve build quality, and learn the definition of customer service. My parent's 01 OBW is a real POS. They might be nice to lease for a couple years but once that warranty is up I would drop it like an anchor. A buddy of mine is looking to replace his 01 GT sedan so maybe we'll go drive the new GT.

Hole in radiator from Fast food puddle. Who should pay?
Well at least we can all tell you are of sane and rational mind. I don't feel sorry for you one bit. You live in FL aka hell on Earth. It's like people up here who build houses in flood plains and then cry when it floods. Guess what nature happens. BTW I hope the next hurricane takes out your computer.

5sp vs. AT in 96-99 Outbacks
powderhound replied to 93legacyman's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThat's a good point. I'm always hitting stuff with the front of my legacy...esp with the lower gt bumper cover. I can't believe they have the same pwr steering. Going around corners at speed in the outback there is no weight whereas my legacy is perfectly weighted...they are two completely different cars in this situation. Maybe it's the different model years. BTW, I do want a 96 OB 5mt.

5sp vs. AT in 96-99 Outbacks
powderhound replied to 93legacyman's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXRweddy--You think the outback rides better? No way...it's like driving a tank compared to legacys...way too much power steering assist, way too heavy, way too floaty. Looks better? I don't know. I guess if you like the pontiac body cladding look. Of course you are comparing a 96 OB with a 91 legacy and I'm comparing a 01 OB with a 98 legacy. I think the 96 OB weren't so large feeling as the newer ones.

Redline Fuel treatment ROCKS!
Good one Ranger83...I hadn't thought of that. So you drive through puddles twice seeking damage and go 90 thru traffic in the rain. Brilliant...simply brilliant. I think I know why the eye of the hurricane hit your house. Something about Darwinism.

5sp vs. AT in 96-99 Outbacks
powderhound replied to 93legacyman's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAgreed...96 outback 5mt is the only outback worth owning. Who would want a phase 1 2.5 anyway? I think there are plenty of subaru 5mts out there...we subaru drivers tend to prefer them...though they do sell quick. I was looking at a legacy on a used car lot and as soon as I see it's an auto I turn to get back in my car. The salesman asks if he can help. I say no it's a worthless auto. He says yep.

Hole in radiator from Fast food puddle. Who should pay?
Let me get this right...you drove an altima through the "lake" and suffered damage. Then you drove your legacy through said lake to see if it too would be damaged? wow...you are a bright one aren't you. Germany or Florida makes so much more sense to me now.
