  1. I don't have the Y-pipe, just the headers before they connect, some moron cut the crap out of them with an air chisel. I allready have 2" pipe on my ea82 right now, I think I should be able to just splice it in to current custom dual exhaust.
  2. I took off the oil pump and the mickey mouse gasket was split and mangled in 1 spot, it looks like the only reason it had not leaked before was because of the thin bead of rtv silicone it was installed with. I put new seals in and reinstalled the pump. I ran out of light tonight but plan on puting the crank pulley and timing belts on in the morning.
  3. Sweet, thanks a lot for your help, i'll post once it's finished.
  4. yes, I have done them on my GL-10 Turbo, i couldnt figure it out, so took it to a mechanic who specialized in Subaru, Toyota & Nissan. He had it for a month and finally called me and said he did'nt know why it would'nt start. So I read the chiltons again and realized that i was turning the engine over 360 deg. instead of 180 deg. between belts, started right up. :-\ The covers are off permanantly, I have a splash guard underneath to keep junk out. It saves time in changing belts, which I do every 2 years. Plus i Keep a set in the car just in case. Hmm, i could check the sender, but I don't see any fresh oil on it.
  5. Okay, thank you sir. I made a stupid agreement with my wife that if I did'nt have it repaired by the time we moved, that I would just get rid of it. When I said that I had two months before we moved, now I am down to a week and a half and am starting to freak out as I have no intention of getting rid of my car. I only need it to drive three hours, then I'm going to do an EJ22 swap in the next couple months. I just don't have much time to work on it before we go. I will do my best, thanks again. Chaz P.S. Yeah I know it was stupid, I made that agreement in the middle of an argument.
  6. I pulled the covers off and cannot tell where oil is coming from, it just throws oil around while running, and stops when i kill it.
  7. I have an 87 GL Wagon with a EA82. Ometimes when I start the car it has no oil preasure and will start to ping. If I rev up the engine, the preasure gauge will move up to where it should be and stop pinging. It will idle without driping, but if I drive it a couple blocks and then look under the hood I can see oil flung all over the front of the engine and oil driping under the car. If i rev up the engine, the oil starts to run out from somewhere, then disipates after it goes back to idle. I think it is an oil pump seal but wanted to double check with you guys. Thanks, Chaz
  8. What kind of performance improvement have you noticed? I have an 87 gl wagon with the ea82 right now, polished and ported heads, custom dual exhaust and converted from fuel injection to 2 barrol weber. It performs better than the gl-10 (turbo) i used to have. I was tempted for a while to convert it to all wheel, but i love the high/low. About a year ago i was coming home to San Diego from Bend, OR and they closed the pass on I-5 at the Oregon/California border. I went around the baracade and drove straight through, 40 miles at 40 MPH, pushing 2 feet of snow, pulling people out along the way, it was a BLAST!! Oh yeah, 4 wheel disk brakes an posi trak rear end.
  9. Hey Cmiller, What was the outcome on the gauge, did you get it to read correctly? Later Bro
  10. Right on man, i am so stoked that you got it going. You have really gotten me motivated, cant wait ti see picks. I kind of wish I was still in Bend, OR, it would make finding parts easier. I have only found two 80's Subarus in about 20 visits to different wrecking yards, and those were picked clean. Anyway, good job bro!!
  11. Hey, You know the crapiest thing about trying to find parts? Living in Southern Califonia!!
  12. Oh yeah, The Kennedy Engineered Products is about 1/2 a mile from my shop in Palmdale, Ca. I have questioned the crud out of those guys and toured there shop, nice little setup. http://www.kennedyeng.com/ Chaz~
  13. Nice, nice niceee! I bought a used EJ22 for my wifes 63' ragtop, but she wanted it as close to the origional love bug as possible, so out with the 2.2 and in with the Porsche 1400 engine. Guess i'll have to put the 2.2 in my 87' gl 4wd wagon. I want to eventually put my 1.8 that is in the wagon into a beetle. It is a strong 1.8 with ported and polished heads. Thanks for posting all of this man, looking real good!!
  14. My brother had this exact problem, it turned out to be a faulty fuel pump relay, the pump would come on intermitemtly, not continually, and the car would start, run for a few seconds then die. He then got a fuel pump relay from a ej22 which kept fuel pump running all the time and the car started and has run ever since. Hope that helps.
  15. Hey Numbchux, Sorry but i have a quick question, sorry to interupt the thread. I went a little stir crazy several months ago, because i was in a wheelchair due to an accident, anyway, i crawled outside and started riping stuff off the ej harness, wires i had cut, a/c, cruise, power windows and such. The question is, about how many wires should i have left of the ej harness, because it is preaty thin. Do you happen to have a photo of the harness before you rewrap it? I am walking again and anxious to get this project on the road, so to speak. Thank you for letting me interject a question here guys. Chaz
  16. Thanks man, i know i can do it, i've accomplished stranger things in the past. The hardest part of doing this is that it's a daily driver. Get that thing running i cant wait!
  17. It's kind of long in between posts, but i didn't know my little brother frequented this site. What's up Dayten? Chaz
  18. I am following this thread closely, i Have an 87 GL Wagon that i am planning to swap an EJ22 into. I have the engine, 94' with 74k miles on it, and is solid. I have the EJ harness, redrilled flyweel, but need motor mounts and I have a 1/2" slab of aluminum i am making an adapter plate from. This all seems rather daunting. ~Chaz
