Can I put an 87 auto trans in a 90 legacy ?
Although there is an EJ engine to EA tranny adapter, so possibly there is one going the other way. So your 1990 is for sure a Legacy? I have heard several people say Legacy, but its actually a Loyale. The Loyale it will fit (its an EA82 engine in the 85-94 DL, GL, Loyales) The Legacy will not, as its an EJ22 engine and has an EJ FWD tranny.

No, the EJ started in 1990 Your 87 will be an EA transmission.. they wont work together.

My 1993 Loyale: Work In Progress
WOOF. Thats gonna take some work... You need to do some body work, paint it and put some black pug alloys on it. EJ swap etc. At least youre Fuel Injected... I need to do a Fuel Injection swap, but Ill do that with the EJ swap lol. Are Loyales pretty common in your parts? be able to get the body parts?

Noise from engine... new clutch needed?
I will say that (in a separate note) that when I am turning, I hear the whine from my power steering pump when Im going slow and cranking it. I dont really know where to go from here, I was kindof hoping that when I pull the engine (to fix an oil issue) that I could just do a new clutch and be saved, but if its tranny :/ I suppose I could wait, I do plan way off in the financial future to do an EJ22 swap and an AWD swap with an ej22 tranny... for now, and then when Im rich n famous, 6 speed sti swap lol @GD, so does this mean tranny needs to be replaced/rebuilt? I read that you said its better to get another tranny since they are so common, but I thought the D/R wasnt that easy to find.

Noise from engine... new clutch needed?
When Im in gear going down the road with light acceleration (cant hear it over exhaust under heavy acceleration) or even just keeping speed, I hear a loud whine from the engine that goes away when I push my clutch in... Does this mean I need a new clutch? Vehicle is a 1986 Subaru GL Sedan, 5 Speed D/R 171.3k miles.

I believe its 85 and 86 (first half) is carbed and 86 (second half) is SPFI At least thats what I remember, because theres an 86 in my neighborhood with SPFI and mines an 86 with a Carb, his has a later production date than me lol.

My New Project - '87 Subaru GL Wagon
I have to do this with Ned (carburetor on an 86 GL Sedan) Put the key to the on position (lights up on the dash etc) Pump the gas 4-5 times. Turn key to start (but dont touch gas) RPMS SHOULD SHOOT UP to about 2k and then slowly keep climbing until you hit the gas pedal, then they will drop. When its cold, I usually let it run up to about 3100 rpms on its own, and when I look at my temp guage Im about 2/5s the way up and I can drive it without it chugging or stalling etc. Maybe this will help.

Leaking water pump? Nope... HG leak!
Not to discredit the shop, but Id have to agree with grossgary. If I ever pick up a 25D and if I dont know how to do the timing belt/water pump/HG and seal job correctly, Ill take it to Rick rather than a dealer, I believe his prices are cheaper than the dealer and you get more quality for your buck. Just my .02, again, not to discredit the shop or the decision or anything. Glad it worked out though and I must say, although I love Subaru, I somehow manage to love them more and more everyday.

What's your wrenching experience?
^ you dont find many girls that can turn a wrench.. in the right direction. Even more rare to see one that knows what maintenance on a vehicle means. My ex was driving her car for 3 years before we met and when I drove her car I did an oil change... black oil and a car that went at least 40k miles without an oil change because its owner didnt know cars had oil to be changed... amazingly, no leaks. Type of Wrenching: Maintenance and Modification How long doing it: Years... Id say at least 13 years, my first wrench in hand that I remember was at 6 years old putting the drain plug back into the pan and tightening it as best I could on a 1985 Subaru DL. That car went over 450k before we sold it (running and driving), I saw 260k of those miles. Other skills: I play Rugby. Driving games Im usually at least 2nd place but mostly 1st. Ill correct that, street racing games, Im okay at Gran Turismo and Forza but my main skills are Need For Speed etc.

What Have You Done to your Soobie lately? (Please post in here and keep it going)
Took a pic. Its been zip-tied in so I didnt lose any wires to the timing belt (coverless) so its hard to pick it apart detail by detail, but I can probably explain over PM? This is the passenger side: Its all plug-n-play in the kit I bought, Im sure theres better quality kits out there. Basically, the instructions were SUPER detailed and I at first didnt know where to mount it, but then found that the holes seemed to fit perfectly where I wanted them to be. Heres where its mounted on the passenger side (if you can tell) it got dark here pretty quick Cant see the driver side, the mounts are flexible, so I bent it so I could slip it between the headlight and the battery, theres a hole there for mounting them.
