  1. Man, I want to weigh my XT.... Scoobie steve told me it was around 2600 or so before the AC and PS came out. I might be down there with you, WJM Where do I find a racing scale?
  2. No seriously, does it? It's so much more fun to drive an ea82 keeping it above 3-4k rpm. Where do the valves start floating? I saw 7K rpm this morning, and they seemed fine!
  3. Thanks for the reponses, yeah, It makes sense that the noise was just the pipe cooling. It just threw me off that it was doing that while I was creeping in the driveway, but then I realized that I had been boosting right before and the pipe was probably very hot from that. Here are some pics! The last picture is worth explaining - I had this little metal heatshield that attached to the old downpipe. Obviously, that wasn't going to work anymore, since the new downpipe doesn't have screwholes (ha!) So, I got some Thermo-Tec turbo insulation and wrapped it best I could. It looks messy, but I'm sure it will get the job done. Now, if I can only get the fiberglass out of my hair... lol
  4. Kinda wierd stuff going on now. Maybe normal, but I'm a little worried. First, pretty large puff of smoke out the tailpipe when I start from a stop in first. Smoke has a blue tinge. Exhaust smells strong. I guess to be expected from a car with no cats. I looked in the tailpipe, brownish/black sludge on the inside. Pasty, sticky consistency. At first I thought... oil? but, nah. How could there be oil in there? I figured it was combustion residue from my dirty dirty car. The thing that really got me wondering though, was this sound. It was a metallic *plink!* *plink!* at semi regular intervals. Kind of like what oil sounds like dripping into the oil pan right after you shut off the car, but louder, and single - like one plink every 4 seconds or so. It noticed the sound pretty fast while the car was on, slowly creeping along at 10 mph in my parking low, and stopped, even after engine had been off for at least 5 minutes. Definately coming from new exhaust, somewhere inside the pipe. Sounds like a fluid of some kind is leaking onto the pipe, making a noise, maybe. But, what fluid? Water? No AC. Antifreeze? It should smell sweet, and I have no temperature problems. Gas? I imagine the car would catch fire relatively quickly if there was fuel leaking onto the tailpipe. Oil? No leaks on the underside of the engine, that I could see. No oil on the turbo, that I could see. Oil level high on dipstick. Good oil pressure. Doesn't smell like burning oil. No lifter tick. Car runs strong. What could it be? Or, am I paranoid? Maybe it's just the pipe cooling? But, if that were the case, why would it make this sound with the car ON and engine running? Or maybe it's something completely beinign and I'm a freak?
  5. My old exhaust system consisted of a WRX downpipe/midpipe and 2.5" straight pipe. Today, I got a custom mandrel bent 2.5" turboback, with just a resonator and a 2.5" magnaflow straight through muffler. I'm going to miss the straight pipe sound, but I had no choice, considering how loud the car would be without a muffler AND cats. It's much quieter at idle, but still very loud approaching redline. It breathes like a dream now. 6K rpm comes up very fast. Dip into the throttle any in first/second, and it's there. I can't wait to get to a dyno so I can compare my rig to the reigning champ of old school powar, WJM. Turbo lag is still somewhat of an issue. No real power under around 3k RPM. After that, it takes off! We'll see how it goes when I get my turbo insulation kit installed.... I had to take my heat sheild off since it was attached to my old downpipe... I'll post pics tomorrow when there is light out!
  6. I just got the "bride" steering wheel too How do you like yours? Good build quality?
  7. Sadly, no. I will be at the Dragon at the main NASIOC meet which I believe is the first week of June. I will head up there with a few FL XT6 owners for the XT meet that piggybacks on the NASIOC meet. You're in Asheville, right? That's what, a 2 hour drive for you? You could go there every weekend! I envy you. Better part of 800 miles for me :-\
  8. How's the build quality of that steering wheel?
  9. I wonder how the stock WRX downpipe compares to: 1.) stock EA82T downpipe 2.) catless performance downpipe (TWE, HKS, etc) I'm wondering because I've got a WRX downpipe on mine now. If I replace it with a catless one, I'll have a ton more noise to deal with, so I'd have to get a muffler, plus, I might have to get a custom DP fabbed... Not sure if it's worth it. And, I like having a straight pipe and Captain Planet is proud of me for running cats...
  10. How is the build quality? I was looking at momo wheels around $200... $48 seems like a sensational price! Does it seem like a quality product? Leather feels like leather, etc?
  11. WHERE did you get that super, mega, ultra sweet steering wheel!!!!!!???! I WANT ONE! :slobber:
  12. Hmm... so maybe a steering wheel adapter for an Impreza will fit the XT? Or would the early Impreza's be "Gen 4"?
  13. By the way, an XT would qualify as "Gen 2" right? I hope the adapter would fit....
  14. That's awesome! And this adapter will work with any momo wheel, right? Only thing is, I would feel a little guilty taking out the stock steering wheel from an XT, the steering wheel gives it so much character...
  15. How hard would it be to get the horn or work after swapping out the steering wheel?
  16. Regardless, $200 is not a bad price. I paid $150 for brembo sport slotted rotors for a Chevy Cavalier. Cavalier rotors are the same dimensionally, as an XT6. Blank rear rotors were another $100...
  17. Any word if these bushings will fit an XT chassis with XT6 suspension components?
  18. There's an XT Turbo at the end of Big, the comedy with Tom Hanks.... I think the movie was released in 1988.
  19. Mine will tick on occasion, and the whole engine was rebuilt less than 10K miles ago... Goes away, but just goes to show that these things *will* tick. Just the nature of the beast...
  20. Yep, you're right... stock up pipe will work, but downpipe will not. I have a WRX downpipe on mine. Tight fit in the XT, though.
