  1. I agree with Grossgary about brakes , Replace anything questionable. Use the best syntec style of brake grease . I also like Wagner , my first choice then Bendix or Raybestos . The Guardian brand is from Wagner , a price alternative... Just before we install the New Rotor we spray brake cleaner in the vent holes and the outside area where the wheel comes in contact with the rotor . After it dries I use high heat paint , Red being her color of choice it has the secondary effect of not rusting in those cooling vents. and of corse the calipers are red also. :) .........
  2. Well , Folks my CD from the salvage yard stopped working , when it got below freezing . Called them .They said bring it back an we will replace it . So got in the car drove for 3 1/2 hrs they gave me an other one , it did not work. So they went looking and found a 6 CD player from a WRX . Paid an extra 100 bucks , total of 200 , and it fit like it was always there, sounds good too. The salvage yard counter guy said it would not fit , but I knew what to look for because of help from this USMB . Thanks:banana:
  3. Hi ... my 96 Impreza is in the body shop this week for rust repair at the rear quarters by the bumper attachment point . What I was wondering is there different color stripes on the outback available , such as stripes and bottom of doors being of the gold color? My car is black with gold colored interior and now is the time to paint it.. And does any one have pics of theirs ? I know of a shop that could make the stripes , but I need to show them a good picture. Thanks
  4. What would I look for on the unit, to make sure it is a LSD ........I like that idea , we get to much snow over this way.....sometimes 1 ft per night for 3 days. So it makes good sense... Thanks...... If any one has a picture of what rear end I need that would be great.
  5. There is for a WOW factor , with the car and the background. Were the shocks really easy to change ? I spoke to someone , and it should be possible with a complete rear swap.. I think . And again nice pic's:)
  6. Well , Grossgary and Frag , the rest of the car is good. The rear quarters need small patches to repair the previous owners very poor ...lets paint over the rust ....... I am liking what Imdew said . So I am going to call the salvage yards for complete rear assembly...:) Anyone know how many years interchange ? Looked at the car some more , and I figure it would be best to take everything . Thanks , Folks
  7. On my 96 impreza SW, the rear sub frame is getting quite crusty. So it looks like I will replace it, but everything bolt /nut wise looks like s bad deal......possible broken nuts , bolts , etc . Would it be easier just to get an other rear sub frame assembly complete with struts , bearings , springs , control arms , etc. Or would I be better just to spray penetrating oil on only what needs to be replaced ? Has anyone done the complete rear swap on a Impreza ? On a happier note , the transmission works great . New torque convertor , happy wife..... because no more tranmission whining..
  8. I know that I have the the Traction TA 's and I like them , we find the track well over minor road cracks and train crossing . They are on our 96 Impreza wagon L . But ,That is what we like , we are also running eagles RSA now , 1 of the 4 TA had been damaged by the previous owner of our car. He ran it flat to many times.... Cheers.
  9. The car is having a sleepover at the transmission shop , Torque convertor bearing started howling bad , so they are replacing the convertor with a new one.. I will get them to get the # on the bell housing , and they may know what the rear end ratios are too. Will post further info... Thanks , folks
  10. Thanks for the welcome , 1-3-2-4 , My sprays from the bottom up , about 3" , not very high but it works . Grossgary , I found a local wiper arm from a legacy at a local JY , I think will work once I go to get it, going to bring the old one to compare .. thanks for your offer. I took the wiper arm to the local parts stores....... and they said ....well,,,, we have to order it in, if it is stock....... So that did not work out , Rooster2 , but the thought was real good. thanks again .
  11. Johnceggleston , 4.11 , that seems to be a really high gear ratio, because it seems to rev about 2575 rpm or real handy to that , at 60 mph in auto overdrive. So they must have some wicked automatic high overdrive gear. There is so much to learn about these cars... thanks for the help... You know , Fairtax4me , is was funny , that there was not a tag , just that sticker on the diff ..........
  12. Sorry folks , It's a 1996 Impreza L AWD wagon 2.2 auto . There was no tags on the rear end , just that sticker.
  13. Much appreciated , Suzam , for the link and help on the wiper arm....
  14. My 96 impreza S.W. rear wiper arm has rusted and corroded to the point that it doesn't really wipe the rear window that well , and then, only sometimes. The motor turns great . The washer sprays , not far , but it sprays. It it is the cast metal is eaten away in spots , and the pin has seized to the arm , at the .... springy thingy point..... as my wife calls it. I said that someone will know here at the USMB , will know how many years and models the rear wiper arm will interchange with , to get a newer one . Thanks
  15. Does anyone know what rear end ratio would be, if I have this code on rear diff. sticker # VA 1 REF-XG is that the 3.90 ? THANKS
  16. Yes:) ...... I agree with 94legwag ,but as long as do not need to wait to long at traffic lights . Brake lights will eat some power. 94legwag is right those batteries have a very high CCA , so you should have no real issues. Charge battery when you get home, and good luck
  17. Good news. I found a set of a 2000 impreza non abs for about 60$ but they did not know if it was drum or disc. to close to closing time . So my question now is how is the backing plate held on I do want to keep the drums , because around here we have way to much snow and or freezing rain or both just to make it fun . Imdew, it is good idea for the disc setup , but right now trying to keep costs down with the tranny repair next week
  18. Thanks, OB99W and grossgary I will buy the penetrating spray tomorrow and keep you posted, but First it goes to the transmission shop for the torque convertor replacement.... bad t.c. bearing, howls only in gear not N or P ............ Again thanks for the help
  19. It is starting to sound as if it might be easier to replace the rear bearing assembly. I think I have to check prices on both ways..
  20. Does any one have any pictures of the rear hub /wheel bearing on a 96 Impreza awd . With drum brakes... Or has anybody know of a search on this , and point to a direction I can go to? We have a bad ROARING sound in the rear and I suspect a bearing . Something easy I hope... Don't think CV shaft, or diff issue .. rear fluid up and clean . Thanks
  21. Great info.. I recieved the CD /radio this morn, and just installed it, fit like a glove, excellent......Finally got the proper lug nuts to run my new to me dodge shadow gol colored snowflake rims and eagle RSA 1/2 good . Going for a ride with my wife to get ice cream .mmmmmm much appreciate the help on the wiring .
