  1. as said plenty of free play atleast 3/4 inch if not more.
  2. yea fly wheel machined and plenty of free play it engages just takes a little bit it doesnt return as it should, my other cars pop up clutch quick and this one just seams like i would get half the clutch life with it taking a while to engage . Im thinking cable old and sticky in the housing.
  3. so when taking off from a stop or shifting at a high rpm, let clutch out and i can feel it slip for 2 seconds before it grabs if i shift slow with no throttle on it no slip. Is there a spring thats worn out or the clutch cable not releasing or sticking in the housing. Its a new clutch kit. It did have problem with old clutch also. 84 gl wagaon
  4. I have done them on vws but the Subaru has no bolts, mabye just a pin at the transaxle anyone give me driections on removing them and intalling them at the trans my book says to go to a dealer
  5. so hit gas once in morning starts right up but then will keep revving up until i tap gas and get a couple of different stages of the choke i have cleaned and lubed all linkages but only worked once after that so is it out of adjustment or just tired? And how does it adjust?
  6. yea i re torqued it to 65 and no bubbles now so all is well.
  7. what do you mean by ASV's I would like to fix it, i have had some people almost fly off the road thinking they are getting shot at
  8. no turbo on this. ea81 i bought a new cat with y pipe and all and it plugged in 200 miles, so i cant afford another 200 bucks for a new cat to have it plug again
  9. so when shifting out of any gear it back fires, somtimes wont at lower rpms, and seems like if i shift fast enough it wont do it but the higher the rpms the louder. it started doing this after the catalitic convertor was cleaned out. It doesnt seam to have any leaks from the weld job. What could cause this?
  10. yes this is on the ea81 model i didnt resurface the heads due to no machine shop in 200 miles. i used the fel-pro and only torqued them to about 50 pounds, so i am going to try 65 and see if bubbles go away if not i may fix in spring. Doesnt heat up i pulled a grade 3rd gear floored up to about 9,000 feet and usually befor gaskets i would have to let cool down every couple miles but never even tried to heat up.
  11. I did not resurface head and thinking about re tightning heads and am wondering what the max safe torque would be?
  12. so the the zero-50 side of the speedo lights up but the other does not. So a bulb i guess does the gauges come out towards the stering wheel or do you get to it from the back?
  13. so my 84 gl ea81 orignally just had one fan, i found the other one at the junk yard. I dont have ac so i plugged it in on the driver side where the plug is. But when it gets to temp just the one fan kicks on. I tested the fan by jumping it and it works just doesnt kick on. Is there any other reason is it because mine doesnt have ac or somthing?
  14. 84 gl ea81 Electric fans dont kick on until 3/4 up the gauge, i would think they kick on just above half to bring them down to half. Mine always seemed to run halfway up the gauge. But is this right are they sopposed to come on that hot?
  15. is there any thing i should do after words. Its got a new clutch kit, radiator, water pump, head gaskets, new oil/filter.
  16. ok well thank you very much still a lot of cleaning to do and a lot of parts to order i was told that more often then not they will seal up with out resurfacing the head. Ill hope for the best.
  17. well i didnt pay for the gaskets yet just had the shop order them i can always get the fel pro i just thought that the subaru ones would be better quality. Where could i get them, i belive my local auto parts can get a fel pro set but they dont say permatourqe
  18. 84 gl wagon, ea81. So head gasket blew did not let coolant get into the oil. So i pulled the motor, took off the heads, and everything looks decent. Not much carbon, piston tight in the bore no grooves. Clutch is shot. Good time for replacement. So i ordered the oem subaru head gaskets. I want some opinons, on if you put the gaskets up dry, or with a gasket sealer.
