  1. Some good stuff on here right now. I want it all but me got no penny's. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Members/Listings.aspx?member=58913
  2. Pretty sure a 78 dl would have had breaker points as standard. Maybe someone has upgraded to breakerless since then and not bothered to ditch the condenser. Have a look under the dizzy cap and see. That said if it is still breaker points then the engine would not run without the condenser connected.
  3. 'You think it's worth while changing out the plugs & leads for a spare set I have? I suppose it would be good comparison.' Always worth a shot but better to change only one thing at a time.
  4. Odd that only two plugs are fouled......... I would make a start on the dizzy. First up, is there any play in the shaft? Next, check the air gap between the paddle and the pickup. Should be 0.14" Be absolutely sure there are no cracks in the cap. Maybe you could borrow a cap from someone to try just to be sure. Cheers. Dirk.
  5. From a performance perspective which do you suppose would be better and why?
  6. I'm still thinking the plugs are fouling. Maybe due to weak spark. I would like to see the condition of the plugs. When did you last change them? Maybe check the igition system. Make sure you are getting a good spark. Plugs Points Cap Rotor Leads. You got a manual?
  7. Carb is the larger EA81 Hitachi. I removed all the vacuum accessories and converted the secondary to a mechanical linkage. Also I converted to maunual choke. The air filter is 'ramflo' It is a washable filter but I don't trust it so I have changed back to EA81 filter but have cut up the filter box and repainted.
  8. Maybe take a shot at 60Nm (42ft/lbs) first. I'm willing to bet a beer you will get 1/2 a turn on them now that youv'e run the engine in. Foot pounds???? Bloody imperial stystem! You guys had the golden chance to give that crap back to the limey's on the 4th July! What happened?
  9. Cool. thanks. But what about a stock hrydro cam on solid lifters. Benefits?
  10. Could it be a slippy clutch? Maybe an oil leak from transmission or main seal? Or a lose bolt on the bellhousing.
  11. Could be that the plugs are fouling at WOT. Seconardy too rich? or maybe a sticky power valve. When you swapped over the carbs did you swap over the jets?
  12. Skim read this so sorry if you already have but.. Have you re-torqued the heads?
  13. Hey. I've done a few local business searches but nothing much comes up other than a cafe. Maybe try posting something on trademe nz. someone out there will know. Small town and all that. Dirk.
  14. I think a little research might be in order here matey. I hate the search function on this forum. I think it is awkward at the best of times. However, with a little patience I think you will find all your answers and more on this forum if you look. Cheers Dirk.
  15. I have access to a grunty lathe so I was considering machining a wee bit off the flywheel or at the very least cleaning it up before getting it balanced. But looking at it, it is not all that big anyway. Is there any benefit to lightening such a small wheel? Cheers Dirk
