  1. Hey, I located a sweet deal on a 5MT with 4.11 drive ratio. Comes with clutch, pplate, flywheel, starter, driveline, pedal assembly. Got it all shipped for $400 freekin sweet. Will be doing the conversion in a few weeks. I am picking up the TO Bearing and Pilot bearing to change while im in there. Maybe some of that Red line oil? I have the write ups from Josh (legacy777) and legacy central and will be studying them closely. Are there gaskets seals anything else smallish i should change while i am at it. Any final caveats? Cory PS also have the starter, and new clutch cable and tranny mount
  2. Yes it most likely would "fit" wiring harness would need to be modified... You would probabally want a STI ECU and also a six speed tranny. Not to mention brakes and suspension to handle twice the horsepower and tourque so you dont fly off the road and die Looking at a lot of money for that $10000 maybe Cory
  3. 97 impreza L with original engine transmission....transmission has no metal shavings there are absolutely no leaks anywhere and still going strong.....287,000 miles. My speedo cable died recently....unreliable? =0)
  4. It is possible but it is not worth it, a few things in a turbo engine are diffrent, lower compression pistons, some fuel management things, ECU etc your best bet is to find a turbo engine and drop it in. With a 93 legacy im assuming a EJ22 so any EJ turbo engine will more or less "drop" in and mate with your transmission. I asked the same question a few months back.... here is my thread and the answers http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=18803 Happy Hunting
  5. Now i know what i am getting for my birthday.....or wait christmas....rear wipers are cool....not that cool lookin'....but cool usin'....Anyone know of any AT/MT swap scholarships out there harumph.....alas....................................... Cork
  6. To all, Alas my hopes of a 5-Speed must be shelved for the moment. Price tag started to get a little high and my transmission prospect turned out a little sour. So i am going to attempt repair of my 4EAT along with some pretty cool MODS ill talk about some other time.... To the point....Anyone know where i can obtain a torque converter for my 4EAT? Thanks goes out to all of you who helped me with my swap dream, even though it didnt go through (THAWA, Legacy777) Any help would be appreciated Cork
  7. Cool, After doing some reading on here, and other reaserch... looks like your best bets are: Redline 75W90NS (NS for Non-Slip) Castrol TAF-X (aka. Syntorq). I've looked on Froogle and found the Redline for about $7.50/Qt those should help your Synchros grip.
  8. Waaahooo...lots of crap to sort through....ok check on the stepper for the WRX diff.....Any other info on making sure this is a pull style tranny?? i am going to get it in a couple of days and if its pull style i may save myself the headache and not buy it and see if i can find a push style at 4.11 with a decently low amount of mileage....so any tips on determining what style it is would be great (thawa i got yours about the clutch fork but if you have anything else let me know Thanks again Cory
  9. looks like im going for it...talked with my friend and we sat down and did some cost estimation be more than i was hoping but it will be nice...since the transmisson is in such good condition i am going to use it and if its 3.9 then i will just have to buy a WRX LSD so sad =0) anyway thanx to THAWA and Legacy777 (again) for all the help.......just was a bit overwhelmed when i got to the post and had 4 huge messages and stuff i didnt expect....better get used to that i guess =0) thank you all again Cory
  10. I think you guys have successfully scared me off this time....theres no way i can afford all of those bearings, along with clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, and master cylinder and starter.....just have to find a junker i guess PS its a 1997 Impreza L Sedan if that makes it any easier with 4EAT thanks again
  11. thanks for all of the info....i have the final drive ratio's matched at 4.111 (rear diff for 97 impreza 4EAT and front for 99 legacy gt MT). I didnt figure the pedal assembly would work but had to try...thanks for the bit on the flywheel i have a lack of understanding about that area of a vehicle...(I have a mechanic friend who is helping me and i didnt ask him =0) THank you for all of the parts list and help Josh (legacy777) thanks again for your help and your write up i have been studying it for a couple weeks. Bye all Cory
  12. First of all thank you so much for all of the information on the Final Drive Ratio the tranny will match up just fine... Got somemore questions for the soob-gurus I need some other stuff with my tranny for mt AT/MT swap: Here is some pertinent info I have: My currnet engine and Trany (EJ22,4EAT) transmission (5-speed out of legacy 99 gt) shifter assembly I Need: starter Pedal Assembly Clutch Pressure Plate flywheel (won't the current one work?) See the 5-speed transmission here http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7925766890 Questions 1. Will my current flywheel work? (I know lightened is better but my check book doesnt think so =0) 2. I have a lead on a pedal assembly out of an 05 WRX...i think they use hydraulic clutches though. would this change how the pedal assembly works?? or would this pedal assembly work for a cable as well? See it here http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7926271005 3. Also i have found a lead on a clutch plate will this work for my purposes? it is off of a 05 WRX as well http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7926257948 4. Is there anything i need to add or can take off of my parts list?? USMB members rock Thanks for all the help Cory
  13. Legacy 777 is the bomb...i found out it was a 1999 legacy GT manual so i will check out those pages or if you know based on that trim package let me know cory
  14. Dont have any specs....if they are diffrent give me all of them i guess the only specs i have is 99 legacy thanks
  15. I need to know the Final drive ratio of a 1999 legacy manual transmission.... Thanks Cory
  16. !!!!!!!!!!!URGENT!!!!!!!!!! Hey yall, Have a question for you...i am putting a new(used) transmission in my 1997 impreza sedan... i have a lead on a new one but i need to make sure they mate and the drive ratios for the diffs, match up. so i have a few questions 1. What is the final drive ratio for my diffs in my 1997 Impreza L Sedan? 2. What is the final drive ratio for a 1999 Legacy (Transmissino pulled from) 3. Will this transmission from 1999 legacy mate to my ej22 Here is the email from the person selling it "It will fit any EJ20 engine, I don't know what the final gear ratio is. It was stored with trans fluid in it and is in perfect shape. I'm selling it because I only needed the engine for my sandrail project, and when i bought the engine I had to by thewhole drive train. Jon" Basically...will it fit and work...any help is extremely appreciated thanks Cory
  17. I have a 97 Impreza L and i have an odd problem with my AC/Fan. When i turn on the AC and fan everything works. But then after a non standard amount of time, it will cut out, the fan will go off the ac light will go out and nothing will work. If i play around with it for a few seconds it usually comes back on....any thoughts on what might be malfunctioning??? Thanks Cory
  18. thank you,, that is a pretty complete write up....any other insights would be wonderful. Cory
  19. I have a lead for a 5 speed manual transmission that i want to do a swap out with on my 97 impreza L auto. The tranny comes out of a 95 1.8.....any caveats or mating issues or flywheel...or ??? let me know . thanks cory
  20. There is no way a tranny conversion would cost more than 4000 dollars....imprezas are rare around here....i have seen WRX trannys going for around 900 bux....as for just a swap out....diffrent flywheel or what....what makes it that much harder....
