  1. How do you tell if only your oil ring is broken, and the compression rings are fine? I've got loads of oil going through #3 cyl on my EJ22, there's a layer going down the intake from the PCV to the head, the valves are wet with oil, but not carbon caked on the back of the intake valves. I'm wondering if mabe my oil ring broke.
  2. Dont' let the wheels freeze in, cause then you're really screwed.Me and my friends had 3 toyotas buried in one mudhole, one got stuck and then we buried the others trying to pull it out. We didn't have Ice catching up though.
  3. Will the turbo crosspipe fit in with the N/A crossmember, or is the 91 a turbo too?
  4. You could replace the two pullies on the left head and slap a new belt on for not too huge money. It probably needed a timing belt change anyways. From my short visit in NYC, I wouldn't want a nice car there. Way too many near-accidents for me.
  5. Where does the belt anchor behind the seat? If it anchors down bottom on the seat frame, it's actually worse than the regular belt because it will compress your back in an accident.
  6. The funny part is that there is sound advise in there if you read carefully. Who knows, it may get through.
  7. The flow coeficient of the air traveling through the bends in the intakes reduces the ability to hot rod the enine. A hot rod must be put throught a staight tube, so hotroding an engine that has multiple 90degree bends in the intake makes as much sense as adding a mechanical fan to the front of the engine. The airbox inside the fender, while disableing the butt-dyno, collects invisibles and refutes their ability to corrode the valves when heated by the anti-icing heated manifold. Supercooling the intake charge would lead to the fuel falling out of suspension, puddeling in the 90 degree turns, and a lean mixture. My extensive research while half inebriated shows that replacing the engine mounts with solid pieces of oak reduces the degrees of torsional loss, enhancing acceleration while reducing chassis flex. That was kinda fun...
  8. I was out of the car. I don't know, it's got a heavier engine, heavier wheels, lots of weight in the front bumper and winch, and the lift kit weight.

    30" is as big as you can go with a 4" lift. And that involves a lot of bashing in the front wheel wells. You're going to need to cut the rear at the front edge of the wheel well by the door.
  10. Take the lift out of the wagon, put it on the hatch, put the AA wheels on the hatch, and run some 27" tires. It would look nice.

  12. Just before I toasted my valve, I had my car up on the scale at the scrapyard. 3,008lbs, 3/4 tank of gas, some light recovery gear in the back. It's an EA82 wagon. What do these weigh stock and how much have I added to it. 3k lbs seems like a lot.
  13. We need some burnout pics. How else can we tell that it has 350hp? Not just brakestands either, nice long sideways smokers.
  14. Explain the 420hp pump gas 2.5's then. If it came from the factory turbo, go ahead and throw all the sti stuff on it. If it came N/A, you'll regret trying to turbo it.
  15. Buying a non-turbo 2.5, and turboing it wouldn't be a verry good idea. Buying a turbo 2.5, like in the legacy GT or i think the forester x? would work. The nice thing is that the people who buy the Sti's upgrade to better stuff and sell the Sti bits on Ebay. You can then buy the Sti parts and bolt them onto your turbo 2.5, giving you stock Sti performance.
  16. The EJ18 is hardly ever talked about here, because it's reliable I believe. The only time you hear about them is when someone's taking out a perfectly running one to put an EJ22 in for more power.
  17. You could drain and refill the tranny a couple of times in your driveway. 5.5qts a drain of ATF. It can't hurt, and it could certainly help.
  18. Group of three on drivers side of manifold: Top big pipe=fuel feed lower left small pipe= tank vent lower right big pipe= fuel return Small pipes on passenger side front of manifold go to the carbon cannister. Line should go straight from the fuel filter to the fuel feed. I wouldn't use that filter, I doubt it's rated for the PSI that the fuel injection runs on. The fuel regulator is on the end of the passenger's side fuel rail, it's a small silver can with a vacuum line coming out of it and a fuel hose hooked up to it.
  19. If they won't put out a discounted repair on the 2.5l headgaskets other than a bottle of stop leak, they aint gonna do anything about a gas smell on a few turbo engines.
  20. New england doesn't have anything that would need altitude compensation. Colorado and other west states have 7,000+ altitude. Heck, even I need compensation for the first few days when I go out there. Doesn't seem bad at first, but then you try running... wheeze and gasp.
  21. I took the valvecover off, first thing I noticed is that one of the exhaust springs is on upside down. (the engine was assembled in kinda a hurry) I took off the exhaust manifold, and feeling with a piece of wire, there's about an eigth of the exhaust valve missing on the valve that had the flipped spring. So, I get to take the head off tomorrow morning. Could the extra inertia of the flipped spring have shattered the valve? The springs are variable rate, wound tighter at one end, which is next to the head, and looser at the other.
  22. I was accelerating up a long, steep hill with my car, and I started misfiring and loosing power. There was nowhere to pull over, so I downshifted and revved the piss out of it to get to the top. It's now consistently running on 3 cylenders. If you unplug the #3 injector, the engine beat doesn't change. It's getting spark, its getting fuel, but it has no compression. As in 3psi. The other cyls are up round 150psi continuous cranking. I get a wierd thing in the exhaust, if you hold your fingers infront of the tailpipe, usually they are just puffed against. Now, its puffed, then sucked back in the pipe, then puffed out again. If you remove the #3 sparkplug and run it with it out, this sucking in the tailpipe is gone. I think I either burned an exhuast valve good, or it's stuck open.
