3at 4wd to 5 speed swap
Well I'm dropping the pushbutton 5 speed out of my Loyale to swap with a D/R 5 speed at the same time so that would be the most availabe choice, however you raise a good point, I don't know how the hell that pushbutton system really works. I suppose I could rob whatever is needed off my loyale, but going dual range might be easier in the long run. Propeller/driveshaft length is different between the autos and 5 speeds as well correct?

3at 4wd to 5 speed swap
Last night my buddy picked up a 87 4wd sedan with the 3 auto. The motor is in great shape, looks to have had head gaskets and the timing belt done at some point not too long ago and it has a Weber on it. However, it won't shift into 3rd gear, and we are planning on 5 speed swapping it. What all am I going to need? So far I know it needs a clutch kit, flywheel, pedal assy, clutch cable...the rear diff tag says its a 3.9 but I thought all the automatics came with a 3.7 rear end, or is that just the 4eat cars? Is the spline count different on the axles, and if so are we going to need to swap front hubs? Couldn't really find much info on this swap but if there's already a thread about this id appreciate a link to it. Thanks guys!

Will XT rear LSD fit on Loyale?
Thats the same diff, 3.7

Identifying LSD rear end?
rx's and automatic full time 4wd turbowagons with the 4at all have the 3.7 lsd. People have converted these to the 3.9 ratio. I have heard rumors that xt6's could come optioned with a 3.9 lsd but I have never actually seen this confirmed. There should be a tag on the diff that tells you the ratio and if it is an LSD or not.

Help Needed... Wont crank over
Clean your terminals, on my WRX I had the same problem shortly after I got it, pulled the terminal covers off and the corrosion was so bad that the positive terminal had been completely eaten thru. Checking fusible links/fuses is always a good idea too. Buying a multimeter really helped me out when I had electrical problems.

making a nonturbo gl turbo
Read up on EJ swaps. I'm sure someone else will explain in greater detail why, but swapping a ea82T isn't very cost effective, and adding forced induction to an N/A ea82 is just a bad idea all around.

Is my Ej20G Solid or Hydro lifter?
Logan K replied to Logan K's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYes, just put in two 12 inch pioneer subs...probably the best fix for now! Still, im going to reseal my oil pump and get a working oil pressure gauge tomorrow, so hopefully this will soon be resolved.

Hunting for a XT6 lug stud
yeah, but i needed it ASAP. working at a tire shop and seeing more then a few wheels fall off from people failing to apply proper torque leaves me a little paranoid of running without the proper number of studs.

XT Hood Vent
Other then looks, and maybe a slightly cooler engine temp, i dont think those hoods did much...but they do look cool, I always wanted one on my xt6. It would probably be worth a decent amount of money to the right person.

Is my Ej20G Solid or Hydro lifter?
Logan K replied to Logan K's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWell, when i first got it it didnt have any lifter noise at all, but it was running 2 quarts low on oil and had not been changed for some time. I changed it with 5w30 chevron oil and a few days after that i started noticing the sound, and over the past week its gotten increasingly more common, and louder. Ill try changing the oil again and see what happens.

Is my Ej20G Solid or Hydro lifter?
I was wondering if anyone would know if the older Ej20's were solid or hydro lifter? im getting a ticking that sounds alot like a ea82 TOD but since there is only about 40,000-50,000 miles on the engine it seems unlikely that the hydro lifters would be clogged up already (although the previous owner did go over 10k miles without an oil change...). Anyway, its a Ej20G out of a 1994 Legacy RS. Any help would be much appreciated!

2.0L ej205 84gl wagon
I'm not sure if your stock 5speed will stand up to the power from the ej20, I've heard that they arnt much stronger then the 5speeds in the ea82. I have a JDM legacy rs 5speed and 4.11 rear LSD in my Ej20 swapped RX and i love it, although the ratios are a little short for freeway driving. Maybe you could see about getting a WRX tranny/rear end to go with the motor?

Hunting for a XT6 lug stud
just ordered some from SOA...for $7.60 a piece. Great reminder why I hate buying ANYTHING from dealerships.

Hunting for a XT6 lug stud
Hey, does anyone know a good source to get xt6 lug studs, or know a place that would probably have a wide enough selection of bolts to have something comparable? So far I've tried Shmucks, Carquest, Autozone, Smart, and my local dealership, all with no luck. I tried a stud off a regular GL and it was way too small. Does anyone know where I might be able to find one? and would it be possible that the studs off a first-gen legacy would work?

About to buy the Ultimate RX
I had my friend who is an alignment tech at Big-O tires help me work with it, its alot better but its still not quite perfect yet, after I get new tires I will be sure to make the trip down to Kirkland for that. Should I call and schedule an appointment or do you guys do drop-in's too?

About to buy the Ultimate RX
Well, I got it last friday. No offense if the previous owner (between Tex and I) is a board member, but I don't think he was exactly the sharpest tool in the shed. He never changed the oil in the entire time he owned the car (and was running it 2 quarts low), failed to notice he was missing a wheel stud for who knows how long, thought his bald tires still had good tread, and neglected to get it aligned even though you practically had to hold the steering wheel sideways for it to go straight, and drove it like this for over 10,000 miles. It also has slight lifter noise (probably due to buildup from lack of oil changes). Still, its a fun car, fast as hell, and gets amazingly good economy for an AWD turbo when you stay off the boost. I'm currently working on trying to pass emissions, it failed pretty spectacularly but since it is the last year that the test will be required I'll see if i can do what I did with my lifted GL and just get a waiver. Tex, I have a few questions if you wouldn't mind helping me out a bit, ill shoot you an email or PM right after I'm done with this.

About to buy the Ultimate RX
Thats the thing...when the turbo kicks that car REALLY scoots. I haven't confirmed it yet, but it sure feels quicker then my friends 05 STI...

About to buy the Ultimate RX
TEX: I actually talked to you about the car before...i dont know if you remember, but a week or two ago you came into Jimmy Johns, I was the cashier? I will get ahold of you once i get it...that leggy obx i had got involved in an unfortunate fender bender (not my fault), but the insurance company payed a pretty large amount to me since it was totalled, so im comfortable buying it, and ill still have a bit left over if there are any problems that need immediate attention. I will absolutely be in contact with you though once its mine (which should happen within the next week). And dont worry, I'm not like everyone else my age, I do know how to keep my foot off the gas, and I wont be sticking a giant wing on the back either. Its way to beautiful to ruin!
