  1. I have the new ones. I just need to get all the information gathered from the FSM, parts books/catalogs, then take some pics. That way, there is no way to screw up. Basically, the only fool proof method is what emily stated. I'll have pics and info up soon.
  2. I just took a look at the sprokets I have. We'll see what comes in brand new tomorrow...
  3. No, they are offset in their timing for CAMSHAFT timing... I noticed a difference in how my RX ran before vs after. If you alter the cam timing from the crankshaft...you alter the valve open/close vs stock. Obviously, the engineers had the cam timing-valveopen/close at exact times for optimal performance. They spent thousands of man hours working with this. Even MORE important...the 2-4 cam drives the disty. The disty is the Crank Angle Sensor. With the CAS not reading the ACTUAL crank position...the ignition timing will also be off. *shrug* The old guys at TechLine said the 530 dot is the front one. That seems to be most consistant. I will order new ones and see how they come.
  4. Marck: Those are the same ones that were on my 88...which had an 87 engine in it. I put the one with the 530 dot on the front, and the largenotched one on the back as the teeth positioning matched the other 'rear' ones that I had that lacked a dot at 530. It ran better. *shrug*
  5. Holy geez.... Atleast by the time the thread ends, we all will know what goes where on any specific car right down to VIN specific.
  6. Yeah, I've seen alot of pullys and it is hit or miss as to if they have holes...and its hit or miss as to if the sprockets had pins. *shrug* According to the parts catalog...electronic ones.... The front one is avalible with or with out the pin. The pin'd ones come on all turbo EA82s. The rear one is the same partnumber from 85 to 94. As for XT6: its different from the EA82. This information comes from the Proquest EPC, and the SUBURU Fast-2 EPC. I'm sure the paper book I have shows the same.
  7. In both training books that I have....neither of them mention ways to ID the two from each other. Both of the books refer to them as the 'inner' and 'outer' sprockets. Apparently they must think that you will be smart enough to know that they are inner vs outer for a reason, and NOT to interchage them.
  8. Actaully....if you read BOTH the 86 FSM...and the 91 FSM...both are different in their wording!!!!!! The 86 speaks what you just spoke, and I just read that in my 86 FSM set. However, the 91 FSM that the dealership ownes, speaks exactly the opposite of what the 86 FSM states. However, both state that one or the other can be identified by the presence OR absense of the dowel pin. *WJM is now looking for the training books for the EA82*
  9. I've never really lost my belief in the EA82's. Parts are still WIDELY avalible, and knowledge of those engines are still avalible from the 'old timers' at SOA in the form of books and people. One day, I'll be one of those old timers that have unlimited resources about the engine. Right now, those guys are getting harder and harder to find....so it makes it very difficult to the average person to do the right stuff with this engine. hooziewhatsit: You dont have to pull the fan off. Just take the crank pully off. I'd pull the entire thing apart tho to check front AND rear.
  10. Ok, so this eveing I took my newest RX and put it under the knife. The engine that is currently in it was the one in my 87 that once upon a time put down the 165hp/220tq to the wheels at 14psi on just bolt on mods....since then its seen other 30k miles with some track days, autox and alot of hard street driving. Combined mileage is around 60k miles since pleiades and I first put it back together with peices that were around 180k miles old.... What did I find?!??!?!? The timing belt sprockets WERE on BACKWARDS. Hmmm.... The engine did exibit some rough idle from time to time, and at stock boost levels DID seem weak. So after correcting that, the engine ran alot smoother. From there, I rechecked the distributor timing. It was one tooth off from the cam. Corrected that and set timng at about 22 deg. Now, its perfect. Now, there is a coolant leak. The car is a tad quicker now, and DEFINATLY runs a whole lot better now.
  11. and since EA82's have been around for 20 years...most likely someone has been in there.....
  12. See my new thread: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=69210
  13. 2nd and final reserved post...for more future information.
  14. 1st reserved post....for more information in the future.
  15. All previous information in the post that was here originally was wrong. Here is the correct information. On the left, is the FRONT sprocket. On the right, is the REAR sprocket. Here are the pictures. Notice that the RIGHT one has a groove on the back of it. This one denotes that it goes nearest to the rear of the engine. The LEFT one does not have a groove, so therefore it goes on the front. http://wjmrallyesport.com/cranksprockets/DSCF5331.JPG http://wjmrallyesport.com/cranksprockets/DSCF5332.JPG
  16. But there is a conspiracy against 2WD sedans...they are all dissapearing!!!!!!!!!
  17. I forgot to bring them home, and I've been traveling to and from family. I'll make sure and get those things posted tomorrow....or before friday for sure.
  18. Yes, I figured we would know this... You can hold the sprockets up against each other in the air or on a bench and see that the teeth on each sprocket do not line up with each other. However, getting the front vs the back in the right place is what matters.
  19. Your's are on backwards. Take the rear one, and put it in the front position, and the front one in the back. After reading over the training material and talking to the Tech-Help Line at SOA, I have the correct information regarding the correct orientation of the crankshaft timing belt sprockets. Once I get the pictures made and material scanned in, I will post them. Most likely it will be later tonight.
  20. Instead of posting a new thread, I found this and I'll post here. The sprokets are different. There are different part numbers for each one. The FSM specifies that they are different and must remain in their original position be it the 1st one, or 2nd one....FSM states the 'No.2' is the front one that powers the 1-3 side. HOWEVER...with out a CLEAR picture...it is VERY difficult to tell which one is which. FSM states that the one with the dowel pin is the 'No.2' and goes most towards the front. However, none of mine have dowel pins left in them...so all I have to work with is which tooth is offset from the woodruff key and which one is 'most not offset' to tell...along with a very grainy picture from the FSM. It appears that, from a 1991 Loyale FSM, section 2-3, that the 'front' one has more offset than the 'back' one....in which the offset of the tooth from the key groove is maybe only about 5 to 6 degrees. The front one appears to have approx. 10 to 15 degrees offset fromthe key groove. If you look hard enough and closely enough...you can barely see that the parts blow apart in section 2-3 depics this in the figure ever so slightly...as in real life, it is an EVER so SLIGHT difference. I'll get some pics up ASAP.
  21. Pretty much all the RA and R's have that....until you get to Version 7+, then I believe it was in just the RA's ment for rally.
  22. cut up a useless ecu for the female connector.
  23. We made a plug and play one. Wiring is NOT hard.
