  1. Nice to know you're getting those Outback struts! When you get them installed, tell us how much higher it is! I'd like to know if the ground clearance exceeds that of my Outback (which has a listed ground clearance of 7.3 inches).
  2. Your post wasn't too long. Welcome aboard, although I too just joined. What configuration is your Brat? 4WD with manual?
  3. Nice that it has the 5-speed manual However, it is well past the 100k miles mark, which we can easily assume the head gasket issue had already occured. My car, 99 Legacy Outback, as the same EJ25D as that Legacy GT. My head gasket failed me in the 92k to 93k mileage. There were absolutely NO SIGNS of the head gasket failure until I looked down the coolant reservoir one time I had nothing better to do. It was almost empty, and I could see vapors coming out the bottom of the coolant reservoir. So I filled it up with Subaru long-life coolant/antifreeze and hoped for the best. Turns out I caught the problem early, it was leaking rather slowly (after adding the Subaru cooling system conditioner). However, it did NOT stop the problem. As long as it has the original gaskets, you're going to need to get the replacement gasket. Subaru has stopped producing the bad head gaskets and has made new gaskets that should be fine.

Group B rally cars were insane, mad, and extremely fast! Shame Subaru never tried to make a Group B rally car :-\ However, here's a video that can match that awesomeness! The original Subaru Impreza 555 rally car! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2TwJjOWHI8
  5. Thanks! In my eyes, it's a crime to keep an Outback clean. But maybe that's because of the Outback commercial, lol Actually, I've always like the look of mud...
  6. Tear up the mountain? Do you mean: on the paved twisty mountain passes? off-road? or all of the above ? As you can tell, I'm also a new member.
  7. Hey, nice to join this forum! Subex aka SubaruXT6 aka John recommended I join I'm quite happy to see that there's a good number of Subaru enthusiasts out there! Especially those who own the older generation of Subarus (80's and before). My 1999 Outback isn't something too special, however, it is quite rare since it is the Limited trim level but with a 5-speed manual, which the Limited trim is no longer available with (the Limited trim now comes only with an automatic ) I have taken my Outback through SOME mud and a flood. Driving through a flood was more scary than fun to my own surprise. Pics of said Legacy Outback here! http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/8103/sonya200184.jpg /\/\/\/\ BEWARE: HUGE PICS \/\/\/\/ http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/1778/sonya200186t.jpg
  8. What the hell??? I think that's exactly what happened to me!!! I brought my Outback to a nearby dealership and they said it had a bad rod. Took it to an independent shop and diagnosed it was a bad valve (or something of that nature, can't remember if it was a valve or the whole valvetrain). And the infamous EJ25D head gasket failure was fixed as well. I ALMOST got a Loyale as my first car. It had too many miles though, so I couldn't get it. Didn't know the Loyale was that bad of a car. And one time, I actually tried to get a GL hatch with a 5-speed and dual-range. Was too cheap for what had been done to it and too far away...
