  1. I recently picked up a whole dash assembly from an 81 Gl wagon I am planning on putting it into my 80 wagon. Im now wondering how much different the electrical is going to be. My stock car is not a GL and just has the basic gauge set up. (no tac, oil, or volt meter. etc) The new dash set up has all the guauges. Am I going to have to do a bunch of rewireing to get the tac to work and the other gauges?
  2. Thank you for your help I have alot of work planed for the old girl. I will be trying out what you said soon.
  3. So recently a friend gave me a new mechanical oil pressure guage, can i use it on my EA81 motor and if so do i get rid the oil sending unit? My sending unit is broken and always has the red oil light is always on in my dash. I would love to have an actual gauge showing the oil pressure.
  4. Just courious, has anyone else had had a problem with buying wheel studs from NAPA auto parts? I recently replaced all the studs on my 1980 subie and have noticed that the studs seem very poor quality and stip out very easy. Anyone have a good place for me to buy good studs?
  5. I bought a napa oil sending unit and put it on my EA-81 but now the red oil can indicator light on the dash is stuck on all the time. My friend had the same problem with has loyal also. Has anyone else had this problem? Im not sure if Napa is just giving us wrong sending units or if I just got a defective one.
  6. 1980 lifted wagon 183k body miles and roughly 192k on an 86 swaped engine. Love my old little swamp monster!
  7. So last week I went out in the morning and fired up my little 80 wagon and when I was pulling out onto the road I noticed that when I turn my right turn signal on the left light comes on inside the car... so i pulled over a looked at the out side lights. The outside blinkers were working correctly. So its just my dash indicators that seem to be having the problem. also my temp gauge stopped working. But after driving for about 30 min the dash starts working fine with all lights working like they should. I am unsure if it is shorting out somewhere or not. Any ideas on to where I should start will be greatly appreciated. I am running a 86 1.8 motor that I swaped a few months ago but all electrical is 1980 wagon.
  8. St. Helens OR. Little town outside of Portland OR. But we have a little clan of Subies here and its slowly growing! 1980 Wagon with 86 1.8 motor/DR trans sawap and 4" lift with 6 lug conversion. (Still need the rear disc set up though)
  9. Thanks guys I'll clean out the MAF this weekend hope it works. The SVX is a really fun car to drive out here on the back country roads!
  10. Thanks GD I put my origianl coil back in the car and used some JB weld to temporaly hold the positive wires on (dont have a sodering gun) and now the car runs and drives great. My mistake for assuming the two ciols were the same.
  11. So I don't see to much on the forum about SVX's but I was hoping someone sould help me out. My fathers 92 SVX is runnig great when driving but when slowing down to an idle it will go down to about 300rmps, and the car will start to die unless you hit the gas. Any ideas on what could cause it? Odd thing is it wont do it all of the time but is very annoying when it dose.
  12. I did an engine swap in my 80 wagon it was a 1600 and now has an 1800 from an 86. I was just wondering if the hitachi transistor that piggy backs the ignition coil is needed for the 1800. I did not see one in the car I pulled the 1800from but perhaps they just moved it to another location. Thanks
  13. Thanks for the input everyone! I'm going to try the paint project this weekend if the weather co-operates. I'll try to post some pics if it works out.
  14. I was wondering if anyone has tried to use the Krylon Fusion spray paint for plastic to paint the plastic door panels inside the car. I am thinking about trying this but not sure if it will just flake off later. Mine are sun baked and look really faded so I wanted a cheap "fix" to spice up my little beast.
  15. I upgraded from the stock radio. And put a Sony stereo in mine it sounds pretty good I can actually hear it when i'm driving now. Also did the basics, new brakes, oil and new CV's. Oh and I replaced a worn out U-joint now my whole car dose not shake while driving down the road now.
  16. So I have a 1980 wagon ea71 and I took it out on a small mud trail and kinda slammed it down on the ground a little harder than I intended to getting out of a deep rut. After that my fuel pump has been making a loud clicking sound, I took it out and cleaned all the connections and put it back in. The car seems to be driving fine accept for an occasional hesitation when accelerating. (like its not getting enough fuel) I don't believe its the stock pump either. Is it time to can this pump? I really dont want to get stranded somewhere. Thanks.
  17. I recently bought my first Subie 1980 4wd DL wagon. I could not believe that im only the 2nd owner. With a little TLC it will be tearin up the mountains here in Oregon.
