  1. Just minor stuff that the factory perchance didnt do right that I dont know about but others might have learned about with the longer time spent on the newer cars. Alex
  2. I bought a new (12k miles) 06 legacy special edition just prior to the new year. I have a couple questions and one small part I am looking for. I had the dealer turn off the beep with the key fob lock/unluck. However, the trunk still beeps, and if I hit the door switch it beeps when it locks. Is there a way to turn off all the beeps? I am missing a small piece of chrome trim on the left driver side vent. Subaru tells me I have to order the entire vent to get the piece of trim!, does anyone have a spare or know of somewhere that sells them? I cant justify buying a $50 vent for a piece of trim. What little easy things can I do to make the car better? Im planning on getting the fog light kit sometime soon, but want to know of other things I can do to the car to further improve it. Alex
  3. Having just purchased my new Subaru recently (06 Legacy special edition), my first new gen subaru(my last subaru was an 82 gl). I read the owners manual just so I would know the answers to questions like, what do I do with tire chains on an AWD car? According to my owners manual you only put chains on the front wheels. On another note, I had to drive to work today during the snowstorm, and I learned how nice AWD is , I dont own chains for my legacy and I dont have traction tires. Unless I gunned it I didnt have traction issues. Alex
  4. Are they still very good as far as reliability goes? what things do I have to watch out for? Alex
  5. I want to get a new 07 impreza 2.5i sedan. anything I need to know? My last subaru was an 82. Is the 06 the same as the 07? I ask since I noticed subaru has a sale on the 06's. Alex
  6. My headgaskets blew in such a way that water drained into the oil through the pushrod hollows, this meant it runs fine, though it is full of oil and water. BTW, I think I would be surprised if someone didnt have cracked heads. The cracks are OEM. Alex
  7. Antiseize is great, but DONT use the silver on spark plugs. Use the Copper on the spark plugs, and the silver for everything else. We learned the hard way at the shop that the silver doesnt give a good ground for the spark plugs. We bought a round of copper for all the techs, and we stopped having misfire problems. Alex (at D&S harley)
  8. Wow, I didnt ever think that could fail like that. I bent my driver side strut rod, but did eventually replace it. Maybe I should be checking the mount for it now. Alex
  9. Hey Will, Go see your local harley dealer or performance motorcycle shop. They should know about different weights of oil in shocks, specifically front forks on motorcycles. I know by experience that people who have "soft" forks on their harleys tend to either go with new springs, and or change to the screaming eagle fork oil, which is a heavier oil. This can makes loads of difference. A heavier oil will increase the dampening, as the oil will have a harder time going through the valves. Try and figure out what weight oil comes in them, and try to go progressively heavier to see what works. Alex
  10. sears should have one for about 40 bucks. Check harbor freight too. Alex
  11. I take it you still havent solved the overflow door psi issue? From the looks of the graph it is still opening when you dont want it to. All that roller coaster stuff at the end is an obvious air/fuel ratio problem, which is most likely being caused by the system losing pressure. Good luck on it Will. Alex
  12. Did you try the owners manual? Also, under the hood there is a partial diagram. Alex
  13. While researching my custom harley engine i ran across a company which will make custom pistons. My understanding is they dont sell to the public, at all. However, they do sell to business in the motorcycle area, and I hear they do racing pistons as well. Company is called JPE. They are the only company I have found who will do less than a set of 4, course that only matters in the bike world. I think it would be about 7-8 hundred for a set(4) though, retail price, which is about 30-40% markup. Anyway, thought I would let you all know. Alex
  14. Dont make the motor too tight! This is the number one mistake of engine builders for racing ( I say racing, but subaru's high cruise rpm's are a similar idea). Tight wont spin up as easily as a looser engine. Keep it in spec at all cost. Also, tight means less oil inbetween parts. Alex
  15. yes there is a way, but its not super easy. you will need the following parts: Computer speaker set, simple one with phono jack and wall plug(converts to 12v) power supply. One amp. You only need the speaker box that has the connector for the wall plug. Open it up to get the circuit board. Determine your left and right speaker wires and solder on wires if the ones present arent long enough. Then remove the plug for the power supply and solder on wires in its place, + - of course. Hook the speaker wires into your amp, and connect the power wires to the cars switched power supply in your preferred method. Turn on the car and test the speaker control at low volumes till you find the level you like. Its very easy to do. Took me about 1/2 hour total. Alex
  16. Another cause is one of the brather hoses came off one fo the valve covers. i learned that the hard way. Alex
  17. last time i saw a graph like that was when the carb fell off a superchaged bike and was bouncing on and off the seal, causing the hickups in the graph. Might want to check around for something loose? Very nice though whatever it was. Alex
  18. hmmm, I am looking in the K-M catalog for subaru's and under the rear final drive section (pg# 44) they list a "companion flange wrench". The picture shows a long handled tool with a loop on one end. The loop has four pins on it. Says it is for the Legacy and Justy. PN 398427700 (sorry, dont know the price as K-M doesnt print a price catalog). On the next page is a similar looking tool called a "pinion flange holder", PN J-25774-A, Says it is for All 4WD. Hope that helps. Alex
  19. These "computers" only do one thing, and if working properly, they do it well. Basically, they adjust the mixture based on your O2 sensor to increase effeciency and meet emmisions standards. They dont help performance. I dont think they have enough control to bring about greater performance. Try driving the car for a week with it as is, then pull the fuse for the ECM, and drive it for a week that way. See any differences? I know mine ran richer, so it had those bonuses, but I got lousy mileage, and my normal 0.01 carbon monoxide levels went to 1.91. If you want performance, pull the hitachi and go with something else. Alex
  20. I have 217K on an 1982 3AT with no servicing done yet. Oil is still the right color etc.. I have replaced the modulator at 214k. However, I have worn the gears out on it, they whine like a manuals reverse gear at low speeds. Also, I started having a little of the not going into first issue after I overfilled the tranny. Still shifts solid though. Not as bad as everyone seems to make them out to be. Alex
  21. Howdy matt, umm, in the Subway parking lot in talent. BTW, that motor you sold me is awesome, within a few weeks ill need new tires. spins all four and then some, gets wildly squirly on asphalt. Thanks, Alex
  22. I was at lunch today in talent oregon at the subway there. I noticed a white 4wd hatch, that was quite boxish in appearance. I noticed while leaving that it had been in that public spot for a while now as it had tons of cobwebs between it and the ground. Someone know who owns it or care to try and rescue it? Alex
  23. When I bought a stereo for mine I got a GM style Pioneer. Of course the number of locations it could be mounted was quite limited. So I put it in place of the bottom most tray in the dash, you know the big one at the bottom of the stack on the 82's? I ended up leaving the stock stereo in place as It would look weird having that missing as I didnt have a blank. Alex
