  1. GD, I liked your post on it. Offering needed information along side info on the alternative back-up was spot on. Now, if everyone who pitched the EJ22 did the same all would be well.
  2. Yesterday I finally sidelined the brat and began the proccess of stripping what useful parts there are and drained the oil. I check it and noticed it is gritty with what looks like shavings. What would the cause(s) be and based on the cause(s) would it be worth doing an overhaul on it?
  3. Get your hands on Gimp Fairtax, it's free and as effective as Photoshop.
  4. One of the reoccuring topic hijackers is the opinion the 2.2 any time someone posts question about the 2.5. For those who's advice for an issue on a 2.5, is swapping to a 2.2, that is not the advice we 2.5ers are asking for. If you cannot provide advice on the issue at hand, please do not hijack the post. Not everyone has the ability/time/money to do a swap. Just a friendly request, I return you back to your schedualed forum browsing.
  5. +1 on that. That was exactly my issue. I would put a fuse in, start up, drive to work, shut down and the fuse blew, every time.
  6. If not feel free to email me at skallatorc (at) gmail dot com.
  7. I couldn't keep a fuse in mine when I tried it. I eventually got a length of fuzable link wire and after that I was set.
  8. I cringe at the sight and can hear GD's chastizement (and education) pound me in the head when I did something like that with my Brat.
  9. I'm game on the local JY idea. I'm not sure if we have any or all of those parts.
  10. Just remembered. I need to pic of the fuel canister on the drivers side and with hose goes where. One was a no brainer but the other two are the same size so not sure if I have then connected right.
  11. Yesterday the engine went back into my wagon and it is close to completion. We have a few things we could not figure out and so I came to this August gathering of Subie enthusiasts, obsessed and hobbyists for the answers. This is towards the rear of the engine on the passenger side, not far from the first pic. This is on the plastic housing on the intake This line is in the same area but we cannot locate where it goes. Anyone have or can take detailed pics of a complete 2.5 engine, it would greatly help. My Mech is doing a great job but this is his first Subie, so we have to go gentle on him.
  12. Just an update of the engine rebuild. This has turned out to be more work than we thought. So far we have had to replace; Cam shaft ($212) Radiator ($110) idler pulley ($65) crankshaft pulley, mounting bracket for alternator ($45) Clutch set ($190) Turned fly wheel ($40) Head bolts ($65 a set) So, I'm up to $1692ish with mech cost. Despite the wife's grumbling about how much it's costing, I'm only about $200 over the budget set for it. Today we drop the engine back in.
  13. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Nice-running-low-mileage-Legacy-Good-gas-mileage-/200590149798?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item2eb41ac8a6#ht_2047wt_1165 Thought I would share this. Got warning bells when looking at the dash pic with the check engine light and low rpm's at low milage.
  14. +1 on another Brat around. It is a sad day when you know of three rotted away.
  15. Just curious if anyone knows of or is planning a M&G or related in the Northern Ky/Southern Ohio area now that the weather is back on the upswing?
  16. I just want to make sure, a 98 Forester has the EJ25, same as the same year outback?
  17. Nebraska has a VERY annoying wheel tax. The # of tires on the road, the more the tax. I always tried to tell them I had a hover car and the only time tires are on the ground are in my driveway.......never succeeded tho.

  19. Now that I can relate to. My Brat was loaded with years of that stuff and the first time I got it up to 70 and opened the vent I was assulted by every bit of it. Not a fun exp to say the least!
  20. Changing the clutch set parts before the engine goes back in. Before that it was a new idler pulley, cam, seals, radiator, head bolts, etc. Going to have a new car before its done.
  21. Can anyone tell me what this plug is or goes to? It's the only plug my mech cannot figure out. EJ25 on a 98 Legacy Outback
  22. I did that with my Brat. It's a push button ignition with a toggle switch to light everything up. After tinkering with the switch I put it back in and the car would not start, no juice, nothing. So I pop the hood and thought I did the fusible link set-up a number, so I went through redoing the connections and all. Then, out of the blue, I remembered that I had another fusible link connected to that switch and low and behold, I blew the fuse in it. Could have saved time and hassle had I remembered that first.
  23. I parked in front of a Cadi here at work and as soon as I saw the hood I knew it was that exact thing. Odd previous owner.
