Working miracles again are you Can't wait for the finished product!

Great, can't wait!

My project is progressing slowly so Bill's shifter probably is probably in time for me. I just don't know yet what length I need as I want to drop the engine by 2 inches and move back in the chassis. Maybe I can just do with one of the stock W-series shifter locations.

I purchased a Z31 R200 clutch LSD rear diff for my EA81 RWD conversion. You'll have to come up with a solution for the rear CV axles. I'm planning to have a custom spindle made for the rear hub/suspension arm so I can simply bolt on the Nissan CV axles. Or you will have to cut and weld axles to make it work. The flange for the prop shaft can/should be swapped with your R160 diff, but I haven't been able to confirm that yet as I need to take both diffs to a shop with air tools to remove the locking nut. As the R200 is (much) bigger you will have to redrill the holes on the mustache bar (diff carrier) to keep enough clearance to the gas tank.

I have looked into those aswell. They are not that hard to come by, they can be fvound in first gen Previa's among others. I don't know if the bell housing fits though, maybe BIll can shed a light?

Well those W58 transmissions are extremely difficult to source here aswell. I paid 120 euro voor a 84 Celica W57 with close ratios. Now I'm actually thinking/having to pay big $$$ to get the shifter stuff for a W58 and can't seem to find any of it used on Ebay or the like.

Err, Subaru engine and Toyota W5X RWD manual transmission. For application in a Subaru where the engine and transmission sit way up front I would recommend to go the extra mile (and spend the money) on a W58 transmission including shift setup (the 'tripod') out of a MK4 (or MKIV as you'll find on the forums) Supra non-turbo or Lexus SC300/IS300. That's the easiest version of the W5X shifter versions to extend.

Nice! Too bad I already got a tranny mount new off Ebay (4Runner uprated). But since I'm making the entire subframe(s) new anyway I'll make them fit the 4Runner mount. Luckily I got the bell housing the day before I went on holiday for two weeks. Good thing, as they do two delivery attempts, then send it to the local post office and they store it only for one or two weeks, then they return it to sender!

After 8 months I moved the wagon out of storage. Time to meet its new drivetrain parts: W57 transmission with Bill's bellhousing, and a R200 clutch-LSD rear diff out of an 87 Nissan Z31 300ZX Turbo. I have now decided to make the best of the RWD setup and create a new front subframe/suspension/engine mount to move the engine as far back as possile (including customizing the firwall to make room for the starter motor). The engine/tranmission must also be lowered as there is hardly enough clearance for the Toyota gear selector system on top of the rear of the transmission.

I lost your email address, if you send it again I'll send your diagrams, got them ready.

Subaru rear drive whats the strongest parts?
LeoneTurbo replied to Scott in Bellingham's topic in Rally/Racing
I'm going to use an R200 Clutch LSD rear diff (off a Z31 300ZX Turbo) and probably custom made stubs and shortened drive shafts on my EA81 RWD Wagon. I hope the stock CV joints will hold 350 lb-ft of torque (car is only meant to do big slides on wet/dry tarmac). -
Who's done an hydraulic clutch swap on an EA81 car
LeoneTurbo replied to LeoneTurbo's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
The heater pipes are very close to the throttle pedal on the EA81 cars so I'm not sure if there's enough space for the clutch lever/cylinder. Will check end of this week when I have the time to move the car out of storage. -
Who's done an hydraulic clutch swap on an EA81 car
LeoneTurbo replied to LeoneTurbo's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
That's good to hear. I've got a 2006 WRX pedal box on the way so will look into it. The dash is already removed so should be a piece of cake then -
I'm about to start the modification of cable clutch to hydraulic clutch on my EA81 wagon but before I start gathering parts, who's done a similar mod and is willing to share details? Thanks!

No not yet. I just received the bell housing for the Toyota transmission, I'm making it RWD. It will get a stroker 2.1L turbo engine with close to 300 hp. It should do be bale to do some nice slides when finished.
I still need an EA81 turbo cross member for it, willing to pay 200 US$ plus shipping...

I have those I think. But I am now on holiday. If you can wait two weeks just send me your email address via PM and I will email you the wiring in PDF format.

Today the bell housing arrived Too bad I won't be able to get going with it just yet, first we have a planned holiday with the family.

I have the European factory service manuals with wiring diagramms. What model year engine do you have? One with or without AVCS?
-
After my car is done I'm sure some guys overhere will want those bell housings aswell. I already asked Bill if I could be the sole distributor for his parts in Europe I have been looking for the tripod setup aswell (all Ebays and even Yahoo Japan) but sofar no luck... Maybe Bill will beat me to a good solution. By the way, the Lexus IS200 six speed manual transmissions (Y160) are cheap as ************ here in Europe, I can buy 4-5 for 100 euros each... Pity Bill's beall housing doesn't fit (although those transmissions cannot handle a lot of torque a 6MT would be nice for normally aspirated applications).

I believe not. I have given Bill the measurements for the setup that I require after investigating the stock available shifter locations (there are 5-6 versions) didn't work for me. I need the shifter to be 27 inch from the transmission facing (where the bell housing adapter mates to the transmission). These are the stock shifter positions on Toyota W5X transmissions: - 14" - 18" - 19" - 20.5" - 21" - 'tripod' This last version is probably the most interesting from a modification point of view. It can be easily modified by cutting the shift linkage shaft in half and welding a piece of tube in of the length you need. Then fabricate a new tripod/support and you're done. I bought a new retainer (that is how Toyota calls these shifter housings on top of the extension case) from Yahoo Japan for 1000 Yen but only found out afterwards it was from a R154 transmission so it's not a direct fit. I will have to modify it to fit. So you need to look at Supra MKIV non-turbo or Lexus SC300 W58 transmission for this shifter setup. They look like this (the bottom one, the other one is a R154):

(Finally) got an invoice from Bill this weekend and made the payment for the adapter! Can't wait to get it so I can get on with my 84 Wagon. Already found a few shifter solutions/info aswell so might make one myself pending Bill's work on a remote...

Sorry to bring the thread back from the dead, but I have similar swap (also a '92) and don't know what to do with the modulator signal. We've nearly completed the swap. Exhaust is welded up, wiring is done, custom radiator is being made. We already did a - literally - dry run w/o coolant. Engine fired right up but died after 5 secs. Wiring has been done professionally - by me . EG33 harness as 'stand alone' and power feed taken off the GC8 main relay. Specifics: - Neutral switch signal taken from GC8 5MT neutral switch (works, as engines starts) - Park switch signal not connected - SVX fuel pump modulator not connected - Fuel pump relais signal from ECU directly wired to GC8 fuel pump relay (but no power at pump so for initial test pump is wired directly off the battery) - Engine torque control not wired up What could cause the engine to die/cut out after 5 seconds?

I'm in contact with Bill but he needs some time due to personal circumstances. I have no problems with purchasing the bell housing first and then get the remote shifter later on so I can put the engine in the car, get cross members and prop shaft sorted etc. I guess a RWD EA81 wagon with a blue printed SOHC EJ25 and plate rear diff can do some pretty big slides

Starter is in the wrong position for EJ-use...

Bill, I have sent you an email a few days ago, the money is burning in my Paypal account... I'll sort the shifter location later, now I would just like to purchase the adapter kit from you
